P5S outselling P5R would be extremely weird considering all the pre announcement hype online.

I don't know if it would be more telling P5R being underwhelming or P5S a suprise hit.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus ranked 2nd and sales are still strong.

Pokemon Sword / Shield was at 3rd place. Sales of Pokemon series, including previous games, have been affected from the release of cloud service Pokemon Home for Switch and smartphones."

As I mentionned earlier Pokemon Home might have boosted sales of Pokemon games on Switch but also on 3DS.

I think they will do about the same with digital. Around 400k with PS4 doing 250k of that and Switch doing the rest. PS4 Physical will probably be around 200k when its all done. 125k probably for Switch.

Somewhere. I think.
"Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix appeared at 1st place. It has very high initial movement comparing to past PS4 version and it is a title that can be expected to keep selling.

A shame it's gonna take weeks for new copies to arrive, based on that SEGA statement posted earlier.

Pokemon Sword / Shield was at 3rd place. Sales of Pokemon series, including previous games, have been affected from the release of cloud service Pokemon Home for Switch and smartphones."

Famitsu Top 30 and Dengeki Top 50 will be interesting this week, if that's something applying to all stores and not just Geo.

Wow, really hope it means high sales for Hatsune Miku.

It doesn't. SEGA simply underestimated potential and undershipped the game.

(Well, of course that depends on what you're expecting for "high sales").

Seems like a low bar, didn't Future Tone DX utterly bomb? Will be interesting to see how MegaMix does and if can claw the franchise back to 100k+ sales.

I've said it earlier in the thread, but isn't that decent for Miku anyway? Considering that there's an emphasis on DLC anyway.

At any rate it's nice to see Sega with an overperformer for a change after Sakura Wars, Yakuza 7 and M&S Tokyo 2020 all failed to meet their targets.

Where is the zelda mobile game? Where is the pro? he reported on both of these. Neither materialized.

Do you *genuinely* think there won't be a zelda mobile games or a sort of beefed up Switch model?
You're in for a surprise. Reporting on something doesn't mean it's going to show up in the next months.

The Pro console is an enigma. He is not the only one who reported about it.
That said, it's possible it's just delayed to early 2021.

Regarding mobile Zelda, Nintendo always said every IP is possible on mobile. But it looks to me that Furukawa puts the brakes on this year regarding mobile development.

He never reported on a specific "pro". He said last year that two revisions were in the works for 2019, a cheaper smaller model and one with more powerful components. Both of those things were true.

I mean the report said it was after Animal Crossing in 2017 and expected the second half of the year. I don't know about you, but just getting the fact correct that there "may be" a Zelda mobile game by 2025 correct in an article written in 2017 isn't good reporting.

Considering how long it took Mario Kart Tour to actually materialise I wouldn't doubt that Zelda is in some stage of development..

But they should prioritise a Xenoblade gacha game clearly.

Considering Nintendo has very clearly still not figured out a successful mobile strategy, I don't think it's a stretch to say that a theoretical Zelda mobile game either got shelved or went back to the drawing board.

mobile games are AA titles now. they'll take up to 3 years to make if the publisher has high expectations. a report from 2017 could mean that nintendo was aiming for a 2019 or 2020 release. Mario Kart got pushed back and given how it and other nintendo games are doing, it wouldn't surprise me if things got reworked to be more profitable

if it exists anyway

I guess these are good news? (Lack of stock will kill the legs, again...).
It's a double-edged sword. Shortages imply demand, especially if the shipment was high (hopefully around or better above 100k), but it can also hurt legs if stock takes too long to replenish. It's not an RPG so it's not exactly doomed because of it. It could even become an minor evergreen like some 3rd-party Switch games.

Sega in Japan

Master System {1983/07/15} (¥15.000) - 1.000.000

Mega Drive {1988/10/29} (¥21.000) - 3.580.000
Mega CD {1991/12/12} (¥49.800) - 400.000
32X {1994/12/03} (¥16.800) - 50.000

Game Gear {1990/10/06} (¥19.800) - 1.780.000

Saturn {1994/11/22} (¥44.800) - 5.750.000

Dreamcast {1998/11/22} (¥29.800) - 2.490.000

Dreamcast chart data is a year earlier. You know, 97 corresponds to 98, and so on until 2002.

That's not what they said. They said total unit sales of packaged games were below expectations. Not all of the games they released did below expectations.
Sure but those were the 3 releases they highlighted with that statement so it's easy to infer they were the main ones doing below par. It's not like tracked sales were notable on any of them either, at least in Japan they were each a bit disappointing.

Yeah I don't see how M&S can be called a failure at least in Japan when its legs have been VERY good despite a horrific opening.

We don't know how the game sold in the west mind you, but still. I wonder if Nintendo publishing it worldwide again would've made a difference. It's weird that Nintendo took over for Sochi and Rio worldwide but Sega yoinked the series back, and now worldwide for Tokyo. Tokyo is actually the first entry published by Sega in Japan ever. Sega only published the first three in the west, Nintendo did them all in Japan until now.

It was pretty clear, since they released more than those three games and highlighted them again on a different slide.

Also Sakura wars was confirmed to have underperformed before that release when we heard about the Yakuza 7, 300k shipment quote since Nagoshi said he wished SW had sold more.

Persona 5 Royal was at 400k after one month in Japan

personacentral.com

Persona 5 Reaches 3.2 Million Copies Shipped Worldwide, Persona 5 Royal 400k Copies in Japan, Persona Series 11.1 Million Copies, PlayStation Awards 2019 - Persona Central

Atlus has announced updated sales numbers for Persona 5 and the series worldwide, and P5 has gotten the "PlayStation 25th Anniversary Users' Choice Award."

If that game was ported to any system instead of PS4 and sold 400k we all would be celebrating those numbers.

Sega took publishing back when it seemed there was more opportunity for the game to make them money.

Honestly surprised they haven't tried Sonic at the Olympic Games on other consoles like they do for mobile.

I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo still has SOME hold on that, like a "gentlemen's agreement(?)" where they're fine with a mobile game but absolutely forbid a Sony and MS release, even if Mario isn't in those versions or something. Because the core games ARE Mario & Sonic. I'm more surprised they don't allow Mario in the mobile games now that they're in the market. Might be the DeNA deal but then again Fire Emblem characters crossed over in Dragalia Lost so...

That doesn't mean it didn't underperform. Just means their expectations were unreasonably high.

People were pointing out that P3P and P4G both outsold their original releases(not sure if true tbh) and that might have given them the delusion it would happen for P5R too.

Sega can have unrealistic expectations if they want. I'm responding to fiendcode saying that he doesn't consider those sales as notable. 400k are very notable sales for a fullpriced release of a port with expanded content.

It doesn't really matter if the sales were "notable" if the game seemingly underperformed.

Again Sega never said Persona 5 Royal underperformed. The only comment they made in their financial report was in regard to total packaged units for all software combined. It's really not that complicated.
