See, it didn't underperform. They simply lumped it with other titles that underperformed. I'd like you to note that Mario & Sonic was amongst those underperformers. Once again the Switch is holding back publishers, and the industry, from greatness.
Yeah it's possible that the underperformance of Sakura Wars (should have been on Switch) and Mario and Sonic 2020 (should have been a better game) offset the solid performance of P5R. Didn't we all agree that P5R did well for what it is from the public data?Again Sega never said Persona 5 Royal underperformed. The only comment they made in their financial report was in regard to total packaged units for all software combined. It's really not that complicated.

I didn't mention P5R?Sega can have unrealistic expectations if they want. I'm responding to fiendcode saying that he doesn't consider those sales as notable. 400k are very notable sales for a fullpriced release of a port with expanded content.
Sure but those were the 3 releases they highlighted with that statement so it's easy to infer they were the main ones doing below par. It's not like tracked sales were notable on any of them either, at least in Japan they were each a bit disappointing.
At any rate it's nice to see Sega with an overperformer for a change after Sakura Wars, Yakuza 7 and M&S Tokyo 2020 all failed to meet their targets.
Master System {1983/07/15} (¥15.000) - 1.000.000Dreamcast chart data is a year earlier. You know, 97 corresponds to 98, and so on until 2002.
Oh, that makes more sense then. Although yeah, that might indicate Sega had extra high expectations for P5R, it's actual sales seemed pretty okay. I'd say the same for Mario & Sonic 2020, these two games sold well but perhaps just not as well as Sega wanted. The three games that Sega highlighted were Persona 5 Royal, Mario & Sonic and Sakura Wars. Yakuza 7 was not released in FY Q3
I see that he made a mistake earlier and posted about Sega talking about Yakuza 7 instead of Persona 5. Hadn't read that post.
2020/3 3Q results
Launched several new titles but sales went below expectation.
"PERSONA 5 ROYAL"
"Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020™"
"New Sakura Wars"
Repeat sales of existing titles performed solidly exceeding forecast.
Operating income decreased YoY due to increased expenses associated with the launch of new titles
Oof, you're right, Atlus Japan probably isn't happy about Atlus USA PR people going rogue rather than just doing the usual "we have nothing to announce" or whatever.

They just listed their three best sellers. Jesus. If I said I didn't like most deserts, and then immediately after listed cake, pie, tarts, etc, it's pretty safe to assume I am especially talking about cake, pie, and tarts as deserts I don't like. How is this controversial?
I can believe Sega having higher expectations of catalogue sales remained fine.Oh, that makes more sense then. They said only new releases underperformed, then immediately listed 3 new releases. It's not exactly a reaching inference there.
The point is that for example Super Monkey Ball HD could have heavily underperformed and that could be enough for their total packaged expectations to be missed. There's just nothing to take away from what they said in their financial report other than total unit sales of packaged games were below expectations. They said only new releases underperformed, then immediately listed 3 new releases. Total packaged software was under but only due to new releases. It's a good color to have out around AC that's different from the others, though I think a cream color would 'fit' more.Ha ha, you're right, but that looks red to me :P
Well, at least it's clear which audience they're targeting this time around.

In all seriousness I'm in the camp that they would've said if P5R and the rest of their major releases met expectations even if the other releases did not instead of sum lumping them together to make it look overall disappointing.
No real reason not to highlight that said major releases met their expectations in a fiscal release unless they actually didn't.
We see the same thing with Sakura Wars. Individual PR announced the 150k milestone, but Nagoshi said he expected a bit more during Yakuza 7's milestone announcement.
Also a shame that they won't develop a sequel that actually implements player feedback. I think the "Dissidia" name still holds value. Even if that sequel is Sony exclusive. NT is a missed opportunity on many fronts. The Coral Lite looks good. I wish the OG Switch got these colors too.
Btw, anyone saw the news about Dissidia NT being done for? It's funny how Ichiro Hazama said that they wanted to "make sure that the relationship with Sony Interactive Entertainment is honored." TFW you would rather kill the future of a series just to have it stay exclusive out of volition. I love Japanese devs.

Apparently Nintendo achieved a production window for new OG and Lite models but it isn't very big since it covers only 2 weeks until the end March. After then it depends on how things will turn in China.
