Switch is just climbing despite shortages.
Which probably means a rough fall next week.

PS4 escaped 6k.
Still terrible numbers.

Impressive hardware numbers. Animal Crossing doing its work. I think Brain Training could go higher if Ring Fit gets proper shipments every week.

Looks like stock was still there for last week. Crazy numbers, up 40k compared to this week last year! Switch doing some crazy numbers here.

Switch is doing the "calm before the storm" but in reverse. I guess next time we will se it climb up above 50 (total) will be during Animal Crossing -season.

Great week. Holy shit that Switch HW boost.

I'm pretty sure GBVS has the best traditional fighter (not smash, not arena) debut this gen in Japan.
For those confused about the 150k numbers, the HK version had english, unlike the JP one. Import players bought that version.

Could the Switch be capturing some of that elusive Wii casual crowd? Also, damn Switch up even with Corona?

Feel like those Switch numbers are because some people feared shortages, next week might be ugly.

This is a very slow period and the absence of new Nintendo releases definitely impacts the market. Luckily, Nintendo evergreens are still going pretty strong. Pokémon and RingFit + Animal Crossing hype are selling hardware.

Great start for Granblue but I expected a little more after all the over-100k talk. Everything else chugging along okay, only other notable new release this week was digital only (Touhou Spell Bubble on eShop).

From the previous thread, comparison debuts for GBVS:
DBFZ did 60k FW in Japan (Famitsu). Probably the best for a 2D fighter.

Otherwise, Pokken WiiU did 72k and both Arms and Gundam VS did 120k. Dissidia NT did 110k.
edit: oh yeah Jump Force did 78k.

edit 2: more first weeks for comparison:
SC6 : 22k
DOA6: 25k
DOA5LR: 20k (PS4+X1, not counting PS3)
SFV vanilla: 47k
Tekken 7: 54k
BBTAG: 20k (PS4+ Switch)
Unist: 8k
Blade Arcus EX: 10k on PS4. Rebellion: 3k on Switch (doesn't seem to have charted on PS4)
Boruto: 8k
MvCI: 10k

GGXrd was a weird case as it was crossgen. Others didn't chart or I forgot them
This is easily the best traditional fighter debut.

So, AC preorders opening, COVID-19 related stock shortage fears, or both? To me, the former seems like a more plausible explanation, although now that I think about it, wouldn't Lite also see a boost from the AC preorders?

Come into the thread expecting 50k HW for the Switch and business as usual, and I instead find 100k in the middle of February like its nobodies fucking business, okay. This thing is a slow burner that started off super fucking strong already, I can't wait to see what a peak year is gonna look like. Cause I think the crazy is only getting started and it ain't slowing down.

The special edition Switch preorders were delayed, but the game preorders opened last Saturday as planned.
Ok, that makes more sense.

Interesting to see that the win for Switch compared to last week is all in the standard model. Were there already shortages for the lite or do people really want AC on their tv?

Holy hell at those Switch sales and ouch for PS4, those won't get better until FF7 and it will be a temporary boost I guess.

how long do we expect Switch to be in shortage?Until December?

That PS4 lead over PS3 is evaporating fast. Switch gaining on 3DS but I doubt it ever really catches up.

Hot damn those HW numbers. Too bad about the upcoming shortages, I bet Nintendo wish they had overshipped a bit like last year when they had the chance lol

Until a couple of weeks after Chinese companies are able to resume full production, so who knows when that will be. Could be just a couple of weeks, could be months (or years).

Now to see how severe and how long the switch shortage lasts for. That plus whether we'll see a spike in sales when stock becomes more plentiful.

Nah man. Switch is entering Family Mode and is lined up to have AC and a number of RPGs for this year. Where the 3DS is currently located is during its second to last 4 million year and the Switch easily has 2 if not more of those years ahead of it with 5 million perhaps in its grasp this year. Its not gonna close anytime soon, but its gonna surpass 24mil by 2022.
