I think Hyrule Warriors could be okay because it's Zelda and it's combining content from two separate games and the 3DS content will be in HD. There is also Breath of the Wild costumes being tossed in and it would be easier overall for those still riding the Breath of the Wild high to grab it or double dip. This is why I think they need to come out with a remake/rerelease of Skyward Sword sooner rather then later. Strike while the iron is hot as they say. Or give BoTW the Majora's Mask treatment.

DK I expect to bomb and it probably should because all they're adding is a super easy mode with no additional content for full price. If they had remastered DK Returns and combined it with Tropical Freeze then they'd have a hit on their hands since Returns is a Wii and 3DS game and could use the update.
There's a 0% chance of this happening. The 3DS port of Donkey Kong Country Returns sold more than both versions of Hyrule Warriors combined.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze might be a closer battle worldwide, but yeah, Donkey Kong will easily sell more in Japan.

I don't think it will even be a close battle globally. I think a number of users have taken the wrong lessons away from the Wii U performance of Tropical Freeze. I expect that title to be an evergreen release on Switch, though on a much smaller scale than some other first party software.

Mostly the same, probably even less. People keep comparing MHW to MH4U, without considering that MHW doesn't have G-rank content yet.
Well 4 is a base game and never released outside Japan. 4U has G rank which is the main "post game" for the series hard difficulty, extra monsters, new sharpness, etc. We hadn't had a base game released outside of Japan before World since Tri. Tri was missing a ton of monsters and even weapons as well it was worse than World. I can't wait for G Rank.
I see. Thanks.

I'll be curious to see how Donkey Kong does... Releasing at triple the price of the WiiU version four years later with one new difficulty option and no other new content is pretty ballsy though.

Well, the Nintendo Selects version isn't going to factor into the purchasing decision for a lot Switch owners (since they don't own a Wii U), and I think a lot of people who did have a Wii U and skipped this game there will be more willing to give it a chance this time around due to the (truly) portable nature of Switch and the effusive praise the game has gotten on places like this over the past few years. I don't think there are really many roadblocks to success for this game, especially since the one new addition that is there addresses one of the few major issues that some people had with the original game.

March will be graveyard for many games in Japan, February almost ended and hype continues to be low for almost everything.

There has been a decent amount of talk about weak first half for Switch- you could very well see 2 million sellers in first 4 months with Kirby and Labo variety kit.

Yeah, we'll see how Kirby and Labo stack up against BOTW and MK8D for Japan, but looking at it that way makes it look better than first thought. This H1 does have 2 more months than last year's, so it should need more software for equal hardware demand, but there are titles there that might put the software output slightly over in terms of sales potential (specifically Donkey Kong).

The next known million-seller is Zelda tho :p
Yeah, I meant that it is the next game we know anything substantial of that has come onto the scene most recently and will go on to sell 1 million.

Well, the Nintendo Selects version isn't going to factor into the purchasing decision for a lot Switch owners (since they don't own a Wii U)

Can we really know that? Wii U was at around 3.33 million at last count. Switch is at 3.72 currently. If anything, I would guess there is a lot of overlap.

The switch community is very active and for many the true portability is a major factor. I think it will do better for sure. I am unsure how much better in the end, but better for sure.

The difference in userbase when the games launched is big.

Considering the rapid adoption the Switch has had compared to the WiiU, I would guess there really isn't that much overlap

There might be some overlap, but not a huge amount. The Wii U took a long time to reach that number, the Switch did it in less than a year. The people interested in Switch are not only Wii U buyers, its a much broader segment of the market.

But when thinking about something like a Nintendo Selects release affecting the sales of the Switch port, or the continued sales of physical and digital editions and the secondhand market cycle of the original title, it's not just the number of Wii Us sold at TF's launch that need to be considered.

Sales of BOTW would suggest that a large number of Wii U owners adopted Switch at launch or soon after. It's not a stretch to assume that a large part of the current Switch install base likely own Wii U or owned Wii U at some point.

Kirby's always been a silent seller in all markets even NA, will be interesting if this one will be also a strong opener.

Anecdotal I know but it's been doing very well on amazon US. I'm thinking maybe a 200k+ debut month for Kirby in March NPD.

My guess is it will be the 5th biggest debut
This is my prediction for debut order worldwide for Switch Titles not confirmed of course just a prediction
1. Mario Odyssey
2. Breath of Wild/Mario Kart 8D
3. Splatoon 2
4. Kirby Star Allies
5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2/ARMS?
6. Xenoblade Chronicles 2/ARMS?

I think Kirby will score it's strongest series launch sales ever.

If we're talking about Japan, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze isn't part of the Nintendo Selects equivalent (in fact, I'm pretty sure no Wii U games are), so it won't matter there at all.

I was speaking more to lifetime sales worldwide. Even if we do assume that there is currently a lot of overlap between Wii U and Switch owners, the difference in total userbase between the two systems is going to increase so rapidly over this year that it won't even be possible for much longer.

If people were actually ignoring these factors, they'd be predicting sales around 5-6 million (the series' console average). DKCR 3DS faced all of those factors... and more... and it still sold about 2 million copies. It had to compete against the cheaper Wii version, 6.5 million potential second hand copies/people who already played it, and moving to a smaller userbase (meaning potentially higher overlap). Most people are making predictions in line with the 3DS game, and even of those I've seen above that, none are so far above it that one should doubt their reasoning.

I an skeptical about Donkey Kong.

It will much larger and have a larger LTD than Bayonetta 1+2, but I don't see it substantially out performing the original Wii U release like Bayonetta 1+2.

Its a late port with minimal additions, there is no reason for it to do well. Not every game can be Mario Kart.

Don't forget that the Wii U sole 4-5 million in the end, so compared to RotW, the install base in Japan is relatively better (if still shit in absolute Numbers).

The only big games for NSW are Kirby and LABO for H1, and LABO is a big ???? In performance

Wii U sold like 3.3M in Japan. Switch has already outsold it.

The continued downplaying of Labo and especially Kirby is funny to me. Kirby will probably outsell any PS4 game this year not named Monster Hunter and Labo has all the ingredients of a Nintendo expanded market hit.

The Switch has already shown that it can support Wii U ports that outsell the originals. The Switch has already outsold the Wii U in pretty much every market.

Kirby is a big game and like other posters have said will most likely outsell any PS4 release this year that is not MH. If that is not a big release then I don't know what is.

I guess the PS4 doesn't get any big games then?

A lot of your post seems to be based on misinformation and personal opinions.

Are we expecting Kirby Star Allies to sell over 1 million in Japan?

Not saying it won't, but i'm kinda uncertain of his performance...
