Media Create Sales: Week 6, 2018 (Feb 05 - Feb 11)

Bayonetta 2 opened at about 33k on Wii U (Famitsu numbers). The opening on Switch isn't that great but not bad either. Climax Edition had a very limited distribution and the game was pretty small to begin with. I wonder whether it can have Switch-like legs; on Wii U the game eventually sold more than twice as much as first week so on Switch it should be able to do a bit better in terms of first week ratio on LTD, especially considering Bayonetta 3 is approaching.

Switch hardware and software continue to perform extremely well. It's quite shocking to see a game like Zelda charting so high one year after launch. The idea that a home console Zelda could reach 1m in Japan was pretty far last year. The game might even to Ocarina of Time sales in Japan. In general, Switch is selling a lot of osftware targeted towards different type of gamers. ARMS and Pokkén performance are among the most surprising in my opinion. ARMS is going to sell 500k units which, for a new IP in the fighting genre and little content at launch, is extraordinary.

PS4 software outside Monster Hunter seems to underperform big time. Dynasty Warriors will be one of the biggest bombs of the year. Sword Art Online couldn't get PSV fanbase (dropping PSV wasn't a smart idea indeed). Mana did ok-ish given the quality of the remake; it opened lower than I Am Setsuna and it's the second worst selling launch in the franchise above Heroes of Mana (not counting the Switch collection of course, which did 28k).

Hard drop for the PS4, now we'll see where its current baseline is, with no relevant games releasing until Hokuto no Ken in March. MHWorld is still selling well though.
Bayonetta 2 is irrelevant, and so are Seiken 2 and Virtual-On. Also, DW9 second week is terrible.

Depends on legs, every Switch port debuted lower than the original WiiU releases but had much better legs.

Bayonetta 2 is 5,980 in Japan which is about $60 and it doesn't include the original Bayonetta like the western counterparts. Even the WiiU version of Bayonetta 2 shipped with a copy of Bayonetta 1. Such a rip off.

M+R already doubled its launch week sales, great to see! Hopefully it can hold on to some good legs and sell way past 300k in the end.

Bayonetta at 21k is a tiny bit worse than I had hoped, now to see if it can sell better in the long run than its WiiU counterpart.

It really is a miracle that Nintendo is funding Bayonetta 3 despite how bad this IP sells.
Switch is selling well so it has no excuses for an amazing game to bomb like that, even as a port.

Mon Hun still the best seller but keeps the same Downwards trend than 4/G, so next week should be around 50-60K

Switch legs are insane - single digit drops for most of 'em, and not even that for MK8D - so hopefully that will benefit Bayonetta.

1-2 Switch has likely crossed 400k in the days since, while BOTW should hit 900k physical by the middle of next month.
