MH:W trend line seem to be going on the same path than G/U. so next week should be around 39-40K

When has a game significantly increased a console's baseline for months before? I'm seeing this sentiment quite often, and I just don't know if there has ever been a *single* game that provided such a boost. The only thing that comes to memory is Splatoon and the Wii U, but even then the Wii U got Super Mario Maker a couple of months later and major holiday bundles, so I don't know if it applies. Of course, I would be happy to be proven wrong with examples and chart data.

The most famous example is MH on PSP.

Not much is changing each week. PS4 continues its slow decline back towards its normal baseline. MHW still showing great legs. Switch HW remaining steady whilst SW continues to impress with incredible attach rates.

Not sure how much to expect from Kirby. I think it'll have good opening numbers and finish over a million. HW wise I don't see it moving the dial a great deal. Labo will be the next potential big HW mover.

So Bayonetta 2 is at 26k now. Where do you guys think it will end up? Could WOM help the game?

Its a 3 year old game that sold like 80k on original release. There isn't much word of mouth left to be had.

From the Media create top 1000 for 2016 it had:

557./350. [WIU] Bayonetta 2 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.09.20} (¥7.700) - 4.408 / 78.569 (-69%) (38.828 <67,29%>)

It'll probably crawl to 35-40k when all is said and done.

There were mentions of Switch software shortages at the end of 2017 - has that carried over for Odyssey this week?

Also, why does BOTW have a higher price point than Splatoon/Odyssey/MK8?

It's pretty impressive how your series' sales trend can change when you change the series to a more popular genre and then make it a top 10 game of all time (Zelda BotW).

Digital price for BOTW in Europe is also higher than for MK8D, SMO and Splatoon 2. Seems like Nintendo put BOTW at a higher selling price than the other games. Not sure why, though. Perhaps because it was their most expensive game ever in terms of production costs?

Monster Hunter World's hold is fantastic, super happy about that one.

I see PS4 sales are going back to sub-Switch levels, which is interesting since the latter isn't getting much in the way of new releases right now.

Good, exciting game design vs bad, stale game design.

Splatoon, Odyssey, and BOTW are very modern Nintendo games. In a way a return to form for Nintendo. Focus on good design, respect player autonomy, teach through play not handholding tutorials, ditch (most of) the gimmicks.

Senran Kagura also keeps being mismanaged to no surprise. Sad to see.

I hate to be that guy but in this case, there really should have been a Switch port. It's a remake of the popular 3DS game. Also it does not look more demanding than what the Switch can handle.
I think it would still have sold more on PS4, but it probably could have pulled in an additional 10k from Switch owners.

Well, PS4 has one game making a market impact that released a month ago.

Switch still has 5-6 catalog titles selling week after week. Its a much healthier ecosystem.

I feel they've also positioned it as their big 'prestige' game for the system, helped by all the awards it's accrued. Therefore it can fetch a higher asking price, and evidently enough will very much sell at said price.

I do hope Bayonetta manages to hold well enough. A 43% on the second week isn't too bad, even if it's not exactly working with the best start.

Yeah I know the series producer has publicly been lukewarm on Switch, but between the eshop games performance and market realities I would be surprised if marvelous didn't dictate Switch as part of the series going forward.

Their strategy of a console+portable was going well for them before. Making it a PS4 exclusive was a weird move on their part since the Vita was where the audience was.

I don't think that SK7 is going to be released simultaneously on the Switch since it seems like it has been in development for a while now, but I do think that it probably will get a Switch port eventually. The next entry after that is most likely a multiplatform release day one like EV.

Switch sales seem to have leveled off lower than I expected. They seem average to me. I don't know. Maybe my expectations aren't set properly - but ~150k/month doesn't seem like anything too notable for a new console in its first year outside of huge releases. Again maybe my expectations are just off and those numbers are actually quite great.

I suppose the Switch is no longer understocked like before, but merely being shipped/supplied at an acceptable rate (meaning what is shipped is sold, but just not necessarily the same day it arrives)?

Truth to be told after last years shortages and impressive holiday season I expected Switch having higher baseline than this. 40k itself of course is still great but also showing it's normal ''mortal'' after last years craze (falling quite bit behind 3DSs pace and very soon DSs pace). Well soon we will see what Labo does. It is wild card in terms of hw moving power.

Pretty likely imo. Its legs are holding as strong (even stronger, in fact) as they did throughout 2017, so I expect the game to sell around 4 million during 2018. That would put it at 10.7M by the end of the year on Switch alone.

I think 4 million is a bit too much. 3-3.5 million, so ~10 million should still happen in 2018.

I don't know exactly how much money the mobile games of the franchise are doing, but they will probably have to revise their strategy for the next console game after these sales.
They have time to change their minds for 7 yeah, especially since they pushed it back, but Takaki's hope for a Vita 2 and dislike for the Switch means that they probably won't change anything. Marvelous doesn't seem to care that much about his plans.

SK2's sales are what led Marvelous to stop putting the franchise on Nintendo platforms.
Even if this is a remake, those sales are bad for the franchise, PS4 only was a stupid choice.

For sure. They decided to support the Switch too late and only with low effort spinoffs.
They still have time to change their mind for 7 though.

Idk but I think the situation would still be the same if they released that game on switch, the audience for that otaku centric series isn't there and that tech demo only sells because of people buying it out of curiosity imo

I mean, it is still almost certainly supply constrained; it's just that the supply Nintendo are putting out currently seems to be around the 40k mark.

Ok..we have one piece of evidence and that evidence is a positive. It also has a history on Nintendo platforms.
