[NSW] Darius Cozmic Collection # <STG> (Taito) (¥5.200) - 50%

[NSW] Zoids Wild: King of Blast <ACT> (Takara Tomy) (¥5.980) - 30%

[PS4] Work x Work <RPG> (FuRyu) (¥4.980) - ...

Darius Cozmic Collection seems to have done pretty well, for a collection of retro games. Sell-through is alright too.
Zoids did... ok, I guess.
Wizard's Symphony as expected.
No Switch for Our World Is Ended?
Doraemon and Work x Work... man, I always wonder how FuRyu can stay afloat when they release bombas after bombas...

The gap continues to expand.
I might be in the minority but I don't think it's that consequent.
It means of course that from now on, Switch will always get the games in the series at the same as they launch on the PS platforms.

Hopefully this translates to other Squenix series as well *look intensely at Dragon Quest*

I bring it up more because the first week sales were higher for PS4. It is interesting to me to see how games like this can leg on Switch. And because at the time it was stated that "the gap is never going to be substantial between the two SKUs".

It's not there yet but I wouldn't be surprised if in the end the gap becomes noteworthy.

Given the gap (less than 50k) the real battle might, for once, take place on the respective digital shops. I suspect that whoever discounts the game first will reap more benefits at the end.

Somewhere. I think.
Inazuma Eleven Ares was showcased during latest Inazuma Walker livestream. Does look a bit rough at the moment.

Also, they announced a new mobile game, Inazuma Eleven SD (temp title).

No release date yet, but anyone want to bet on how many times it will be delayed? ;)

Official recording of full livestream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wui9Jk_WlQM

If someone wants to make a separate thread (only posting that here because everyone here looooves Level-5 games, especially when they're delayed :P), feel free (too busy at the moment).

I guess the new mobile game is to make up the apparent cancellation of Ares for mobile

Now that I checked PS3 schedule again it's basically dead since the end of 2016. It got a few important titles in 2016 but they were all multi with PS4 / PSV and that minimIzed the risk if they underperformed on PS3. From 2015 and later, PS3 was used as something that could increase sales, not as the main platform for development. 3DS big problem was that Nintendo and whoever developed for it last 2 years didn't consider the option of multiplatform with Switch as back plan and if something bombed there there was no alternative to recoup development costs.

2017
[PS3] Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 with Power-Up Kit # <SLG> (Koei Tecmo) {2017.02.16} (¥9.800)
[PS3] Winning Post 8 2017 <SLG> (Koei Tecmo) {2017.03.02} (¥7.800)
[PS3] Winning Eleven 2017 [Konami the Best] <SPT> (Konami) {2017.04.13} (¥3.980)
[PS3] FIFA 17 [EA Best Hits] <SPT> (Electronic Arts) {2017.06.01} (¥2.800)
[PS3] Winning Eleven 2018 <SPT> (Konami) {2017.09.14} (¥6.600)
[PS3] NBA 2K18 <SPT> (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2017.09.19} (¥5.800)

How'd DMC5 looking, with the last trailer dropped + release imminent?

(historically, has DMC been a more western-tilted franchise?)

They're apparently going to open a new blog to talk about the development progress of the game. It seems like they're going to start communicating again on the game after that hiatus.

Slow thread this week, does yokai have a chance to release in Golden week still?
That's unlikely, Golden Week is only 2 months away. Spring lasts until mid June and Yo-kai Watch 4 is still dated for Spring. Level 5 still has a chance to benefit from Switch slow release schedule before things start to accelerate a lot.

Not sure if it's been posted, but it seems like Vita has been discontinued as of today

Does the Vita being discontinued in Japan mean the stock stores currently have is all they'll get?

There must be some remaining Vita stock at Sony's warehouses if production really today.

What must have really happened is that production ended since some time ago and final shipments have been sent to retailers.

Are they including the $150 deluxe sku (with more games) in that number?

Also worth noting there's no digital numbers for it, it's a rare packaged exclusive on Switch.

Oh, it doesn't? Weird.

And it's not just a rare packaged exclusive, it's literally the third one if I didn't mess up my count. Other two I can think of is Skylanders and Nintendo Labo (but Labo actually got digital release via MyNintendo Store in Japan).

I don't know if data includes the LE, hiska-kun should know though.

The PS1 (First game december 2nd 1994, last game July 20th 2005)

The PS2 was march 2nd 2000 to february 2014

The PSP was december 2nd 2004 to april 21st 2016

Sony systems have very long running lives (The PS3 still gets releases 12 years later)

Thanks for the dates!

Yeah. I guess it's because PlayStation platforms are so dependent on third party software and they are slower to move to next platform than first parties. Also helps that overall PS systems tend to live longer globally (aside from Vita) thanks developing world being bigger market for Sony. Nintendo platforms tend to die the year Nintendo moves its focus to new console. I would guess that with NES and SNES it was also because they were cartridge systems. You need bigger print than with discs and last releases obviously have always really low sales.

Yes, people comment on 1st day percentage sell-through numbers in terms of whether it's good, bad, etc all the time in these threads.

I know but I have never heard of expectations about 1st day sell-through for which we don't know much about shipments.

What we comment is the positioning relative to other games.

I'm curious. Which 1st day sell-through were you expecting, why and on which figures?

I was expecting 20%, because Left Alive has actually had advertising in Japan per users on this thread, and so I wasn't expecting a miniscule shipment for it.

The figure being the 1st day sell-through percentage, what other figure is there for discussion?

And have you really never seen a comment like "X sold 60% sell-through it's first day, that's in line with expectations" or "Y first day sellthrough was 40%, that's pretty good since it should have legs". Having expectations of something is the only way judgement of good, bad, mediocre, average, etc can be given. Without expectations there is nothing in terms of commentary or discussion, just data.

Dengeki:

Anthem:

- 90% sell-through
- mention game selling out at stores during weekend
- second best debut for a new IP this fiscal year (#1 is Octopath Traveler with 101k)

February (January 28th to February 24th)
  • Hardware: 350 000 units sold (-30.2%) / 10.7 billion Yen (-29.2%)
  • Software: 1.68 million units sold (-22%) / 11.4 billion Yen (-27.7%)
  • Total: 22.1 billion Yen (-28.4%)
Lack of major new releases hurt market. Top 5 is 4/5 games from January or earlier.
  1. [PS4] Kingdom Hearts III (Square-Enix): 155 000 units
  2. [NSW] New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Nintendo): 135 000 units
  3. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo): 110 000 units
  4. [PS4] Resident Evil 2 (Capcom): 100 000 units
  5. [PS4] Jump Force (Bandai-Namco): 94 000 units

Data that can be compared to others, which can lead to draw conclusions about relative importance of game/harware/ip, expections mostly come from previous data and overall health of the market in fact (which we get from... data).
30% is also not a very good start for a frontloaded game, Left Alive is a new IP so it might sell more in the long run but 30% first day sellthrough is not quite a good start yet (also the other games mentioned are many tiers below in term of sales/expectations so we unfortunately do not learn much from that ranking)

I'm not sure if anyone commented on Left Alive potential btw, I assume it's a <100k FW? 50-80k?

A little surprised there's been no appearance of the Fairunes on PS4 and XBO (I think it is on PC, though?). Would seem a very reasonable thing to include along with Kamiko.
I'm guessing that Flyhigh Works is testing the waters with those 2 titles. Maybe if they do well, more games including Fairune Collection will appear on PS4/XBO/PC in the future.
