So I was dreaming or whatever when suddenly I hear some weird ass whispers and next thing I know I'm awake and there's this shadow next to me and I can't move a muscle. I'm stuck like that for 30 or so seconds then I'm able to control my body again. Sadly my demon was gone before I could hug him :(

It's funny cause while I was "paralysed" I was actually calm and my partially awake brain was telling me to calm tf down and it's just sleep paralysis lol.

So have you met yours ERA? Do you get along? Curious to hear!

First time I had it, an invisible being opened my door and came into my room and started pulling me by the leg off of my bed.

On occasions after that, it personifies as a person who caused a lot of childhood abuse for me and my family. Not as fun when that happens.

It’s always just out of sight but right behind me no matter which side I’ve slept on. If i try to go back to sleep its like I’m stuck in a hurricane

Summary of my experiences:

  • Something animalistic crawling on my chest, followed by the profound impression that it's wet dog-like nose poked my face
  • Literal grey aliens scampering about the room
  • An elderly man in a windbreaker stood in the corner, facing away from me
  • Dog creature
  • Something scratching the floor. Sounded almost exactly like someone drawing in chalk
  • Feeling of something breathing on my face, accompanied by rasping sounds.

I haven't had sleep paralysis in a decade, but the last presence I encountered was a nice girl in a white dress who I somehow knew was outside my balcony, down on the grass outside my apartment. It was strange, but not unpleasant.

Certainly a lot nicer than the red eyed koala bear with sharp claws who used to sit at the end of my bed.

Mine is similar to that wirey shadow from that Sesame Street book where Ernie was afraid of the dark. Except has glowing red energy eyes.

Loves to get uncomfortably close to my face too, the fucker.

I wake up in the middle of the night,
a freaking shadow gargoyle is hovering over me
I can't move or scream I just stay there thinking I've been a fool for living my life thinking I live in a rational world,
myths are real! and now I'm gonna die horribly...
the gargoyle dissolves, I can finally move
I promise to stop drinking...
Days later I google what is a sleep paralysis demon, I go "Oohhh".
I don't stop drinking completely but I've never seen it again.

My sleep paralysis was always more physical sensations and feelings of dread (before I knew what was going on) than visual. Once I knew more about it, it became kind of fun.

Thank fuck I don't get these, I only get stressful dreams when I'm dehydrated but nothing like that (Unless I watched a horror film or something haha).

Never had sleep paralysis, but I do have frequent night terrors. Like wake up soaked in sweat night terrors.

I think I'd trade some night terrors for some sleep paralysis demons.

Mine has been a humanoid-ish pitch black shadow / void, just standing around nearby my bed. The dreaming(?) brain is wild.

Most of time time I don’t see mine. Once it was a woman with long dark hair in a worn wedding dress who walked across the room and stood over me. Stupid imagination.

I keep reading about sleep paralysis and keep hoping it's just people imagining stuff or inventing stories after having a nightmare. Much like people exagerate the amount of details they remember from dreams.

If it ever happens to me I will probably scream and not sleep for a week.

I wish it ends up being like Lady Dimitrescu stepping on me or something.

I started to have sleep paralysis 20 years ago and it can happen multiple time a week, at this point i'm an expert. If i sleep on my back and do some breathing exercise before sleeping, i can do it 100% of the time.

Mine was an alien standing at my balcony door behind me just out of sight. Despite not seeing it, I was absolutely sure of its presence. And then the sleep paralysis ended.

I've had sleep paralysis a couple times in my life but only once ever had a scary hallucination. Felt/saw a large shadow person with no discernable features standing above me oozing malice. In the moment, I actually thought someone had broken into my opponent and when I finally "woke up" I tried to tackle the person out of self defense lol. Crashed pretty damn hard against a bookcase.

I stopped seeing a shadow in my sleep paralysis the last few times I've gotten it. What I get now is the sensation that I can't breathe and it induces a panic, which to me is worse.

I really wish sleep paralysis wasn't real ... as someone who suffers from it quite often I sometimes dread going to sleep because it's like a living hell for those moments i'm locked into it. Not to mention, the sensation of thinking you've woken up and not actually waking up is absolutely terrifying. Luckily, i've found that sleeping with the TV on and ambient noise helps reduce the frequency of this happening but my girlfriend sometimes turns off the TV and that triggers another episode.

I used to get sleep terrors. I'd sleep walk a lot. One time I even peed in the fruit crisper drawer in the fridge. My mom said I would often pretend like I was in some kind of military conflict and I'd be ducking behind the couch, as if I were dodging gunfire.

Sleep paralysis sounds awful.

I only saw mine once. Big shadow dude with red eyes taking up almost my whole ceiling. I used all of my will power to move my arm and flip him off and I guess he took that personally, because now I just get the paralysis without the demon. Sorry buddy. I was young and rude. We can still be friends

I’ve never had sleep paralysis, but I’ve always wanted to experience it at least once. It’s probably because I sleep on my stomach or side 99% of the time.

You're much more likely to get it sleeping on your back, from theories I've heard.

But I've definitely had it sleeping on my stomach once or twice, so it's not foolproof.

Technically I didn’t get a visual on my sleep paralysis demon, but on one occasion I woke up with my head facing my left side. My bed was flush with the wall so the left side is the only way to get on and out of bed. I’m aware of what’s happening for a few seconds when a feel a women get on my bed from the foot of my bed and slowly crawl up me. I can feel her long hair brushing on my body as my vision is locked to the left side. She gets right up to my face and leans into my ear. I can feel her hair on my face as she whispers, “I’m sorry.” About a second layer I regain control of my body and shoot up in my bed and look everywhere as my eyes scan the room. Nothing is there.

have you been tested for sleep apnea? I often had suffocation/choking nightmares like this. Turns out I was physically choking my sleep, cpap machine has helped A LOT.

I'll second this, not for sleep paralysis but for nightmares in general. I only get them when I sleep on my back.

Sleep paralysis can happen to me in any orientation though. :( But I've never seen a demon - I just get a strong, crushing sense of paranoia.
