Is this the first time you've been able to install Win32 apps on Microsoft Store?

During the Windows Developer Day event today, Microsoft today announced the new MSIX file packaging format. It brings together the features of apps and MSI file packaging formats. This new MSIX installer will support all type of Windows applications including Win32, WPF, WinForm and UWP.

It will be supported in Microsoft Store and supports enterprise management as well. Microsoft is also open sourcing this format.

During the livestream, Microsoft called the technology the best technology to ever be on Windows and encouraged developers to use Microsoft Store in the presentation.

Pretty interesting. Microsoft also claims developers can package ANY Windows application into an MSIX installer and put it on Microsoft Store and "it just works".

This sounds awesome, specially the part they said this new format will be supported on xbox. Hopefully it will be easier for developers to bring their applications and games to xbox.

Ms opened UWP a lot more recently as well. For .net developers they created an adddon that adds all the regular .net framework apis not available on uwp, now your uwp app can literally call any existing api (it was already possible for native languages, but now also available to managed languages).

They are making their platform really good with all those features.

Later on they will remove Win32 support once everyone is on the store and force everyone to use UWP.

Embrace and then Extinguish.

I'd probably use the store if there were more decent products and it was better curated...well everything needs to be better about the store. There's so much trash on it, searching isn't well implemented, relevant apps under under other apps are rarely relevant. It's easy to complain about a digital store front since there doesn't seem to be a way for it to work for everything and everybody but the windows store seems to take a lot of the bad from other digital store fronts and none of the good.

You should have a mod close either this one or the one you posted in gaming. We don't need 2.

I really doubt that. They would be opening themselves up to competition at that point. Almost nobody that uses windows wants that. It'd be a worse look than windows 8.
