I mean, a place can have a layoff while still hiring for other positions. Look at what happened with Activision/Blizzard earlier this year.

Regardless, people losing their job sucks. This shit is too common in the gaming industry and it immediately makes my mind jump to a layoff event when I hear of anyone losing their job in the industry.

Just because this person you know is looking for a job does not mean layoffs/restructuring is happening. Did they specifically tell you it was happening? If not, then you're just jumping the gun and assuming what you want to assume.

they just kept promoting more and more games that will sell better on PS4.

The ridiculous things I'll read here.

Anyway, I don't mind the Inside Xbox format, it's just that the quality of content can vary a lot between the episodes. I usually enjoy the interviews, and the women in gaming show was pretty cool. Best of luck to anyone affected!

Thought it was odd Julia Hardy was hosting at the EA E3 event and not at Xbox's.

Huh? Julia Hardy was also hosting the E3 Inside Xbox show. She often has gigs at multiple places.

and that's how misinformation aka fake news starts spreading.

To be fair, Turn 10 also has a Mixer/social team, perhaps they were affected by the reorganization as well.

Bizarre you can be let go after working at a company that is doing fine economically for 8 years. Here in Holland microsoft would have been obligated to find these ppl other work internally, or keep them on a paycheck for 8 months + severance. Hope these guys land elsewhere quickly.

Wow. That's actually amazing. I would love to work in Holland.

But we have nothing to prove that any of them were laid off.. not all inside Xbox staff were let go either, Jeff and a couple others are still there and some user saying he knows someone who was recently let go at T10 isn't proof of anything really.

Nobody said that they were just dumped on the street, with no benefits whatsoever. How they're handled will depend on their contracts, but MS usually do try to find people other positions within the organization, when their skill sets make that possible.

Sure, that's true as well.

Wow turn10 too??! That's odd. I'd think they'd be increasing staff in preparation for forza on scarlet. That's sad to hear.

Studios as big as theirs can end up with a lot of dead weight, early stages of an important project it's essential to do an audit and cut some bad hires loose. Doesn't mean anything when it's less than 25% other than they're trying to not waste money.

These layoffs from my understanding are from the Xbox live shows division so mixer live shows, inside Xbox, the live were they brought celebrities on and then play games. It sad that they lost their jobs, although I am not sure why they had needed them in the first place. As for Inside Xbox I feel they will just contract out talent as I think that the show will move to a bi-monthly or quarterly show.

It's a real shame and I hope these highly talented individuals land on their feet again quickly.

But the amount of presenters on Inside Xbox was ridiculous. Just 1 or 2 would be fine but we've had episodes with like 5 presenters! It was such a bloated show.

Wonder if they'll switch to direct style videos too, I would honestly love to see Phil just in front of a green screen introducing trailers

I hope they won't turn inside xbox on a narrated youtube playlist, but it seems that is exactly what is happening.

I always thought that XBOX's hosting team was the one thing they got right. That said, they never seemed to flow as well when Major Nelson was involved. I hoped XBOX would move past dude but I guess we're stuck with him and his white gloves.

Not sure this is a good decision. These two people in the OP especially always stood out to me in an extremely positive sense.

that's unfortunate, i hope everyone involved lands on their feet.
inside xbox was a neat idea, the show's format just lacked polish and direction. sad to see it go.

As harsh as it is, she wasn't right for the job. Too forced. A more natural pressentation would be good

No need to shit on Major Nelson just because he got to keep his job. He is a good dude and posts here from time to time.

Reading the article the people being removed specifically made original content for Mixer and Inside Xbox. That is sort of ok in the sense that the whole goal of original content is to draw interest into a platform and if noone is talking about the shows they were producing then you can't justify the expense.

The rest of the Mixer team is doing a better job at advertising their platform because at the very least I hear more discussions about it. The Mixer team though needs to find a better way to create interest in their platform beyond very specific big events like e3 and the game awards. If they haven't already they should try a co-marketing deal with Overwatch and the developing autochess scenes.

Well it's a presenting job so no different to a TV show really, if the numbers aren't making sense then there's no reason to keep it on.

Not sure Inside Xbox will be affected by this. Seems to hit their Mixer shows the most. Red show, blue show, green show, this week in eSports, etc.

Does this also effect the xbox wire / blog / social team?
I know some ex press folkes who have been on that team but not sure if they are effected.

Weird move btw I would guess you need these people for the ramp up to next gen?

I believe that's also the case with rukari. He said he had time to find another position internally

I liked Kate a lot, but Nelson is an institution, and for a reason. Xbox would be a lesser platform without him, and it will be a sad day when he retires.
IF Lary ever retires it will be before the start of next gen because if he does it around the next gen launch or shortly after, people will assosiate that with the gen launch even though it probably will have nothing to do with it.

If Lary is happy and healthy at MS he should stay.

Maybe MS is going to hire popular YouTubers and Streamers to promote their stuff instead. People with already established audiences.

That audience likes them because they are NOT assosiated with companies I don't think that working for MS helps with that at all, I least if my fav youtube person or twitch streamer would start working for MS I would watch / consumer their content less then I would now.

Agreed. I also agree there are far too many Xbox presenters, whilst it's sad to see Kate go, they still have more then enough for future shows.

Wish Microsoft could find them other work at Microsoft.
Unlike Amazon, Microsoft treats different departments like different businesses, each with their own recruitment.

Where as at Amazon, you can go from being a Cryengine specialist to a AmazonBasics supply chain manager, if you wanted. (And yes, that particular career moved happened this week.)
