Microsoft is pledging $500 million to build and preserve affordable housing units and address homelessness in the Puget Sound region, the company announced Wednesday.

The Redmond-based company plans to distribute $475 million to developers for affordable housing construction over three years. The tech giant will donate the remaining $25 million to the region's homeless and low-income residents.

It would be interesting to see the efficacy of this money vs 500 million given to the government in taxes.

Edit: I'm in the gym and basically just thinking aloud. Don't take this to lean in any particular way.

As all these tech companies that destroy any semblance of affordability everywhere they go should. Corporations should either pay up via taxes or pay up via donation. Either will get them some good PR, which God knows tech companies need nowadays.
