Cuphead was announced "too early" and it ended up being one of the best selling and reviewed Xbox exclusives in recent memory.
Isn't Forza Horizon 3 is the best reviewed Xbox exclusive? It got revealed 3-4 months before release...

I don't know:

Makes it seem yes a Halo game will be released but not a mainline Halo game.
The Banjo project is Banjo_20A, Banjo Kazooie came out June 1998 so presumably, this project is an HD remaster for the 20th anniversary of Banjo which is still Banjo but not a sequel.Holy shit this thread exploded!
So let me get this straight..
- 343 are not doing Halo 6 (at least for this year). The TV show is also well into production.
- Electric Square are working on a multiplayer centric game for MS, my guess is Phantom Dust. The remaster was a primer for this imo.
- Fable is in the works, most likely Playground Games have taken this job. Very, very exciting!
- The Coalition is working on a new IP with a mo-cap studio. My guess is it may have something to do with the short novel (by Mark Lawrence) Dark Tide. It fits the horror type theme TC seem to excel at. May even be an episodic thing for Game Pass?
- There may be a chance Banjo is in the pipeline. Unlikely (sorry Salty!) but who knows since Spencer got the promotion.
- Perfect Dark is apparently also in production with Coalition collaborating. This may be what the mo-cap website thing relates to?
Did I miss anything?
Really? I still don't think it was true and was just a miscommunication in regards to work they are actually doing with The Coalition.
This has been a crazy few days, there's been so much information swirling about that its hard to keep a track of it all. I just don't see TC doing a new IP and Gears 5.
He never said anything about a Rare collection and of course everyone assumed it would be a new game. My point is don't pretend we are "starting" to see any promises get fulfilled. We aren't seeing jack until we actually see it. Phil Spencer's promises with regards to their first-party focus go way back, like 5 years or more, and most of them are still unfulfilled. He has actually done the opposite of what he promised since, because scarcity is at an all time low for the brand. And sorry not sorry for not buying into his "we wanna be careful not to announce early" excuse. The competition announces early all the time and consistently deliver, so when you say you're scared of announcing early all you're really doing is attesting to your own incompetence and lack of commitment to get projects done. Get your shit together, stop interfering in the creative process, stop funding games under obscure studios with no track record, stop putting the same game under 4 different teams, and maybe then you don't have to be worried about "too early". Cuphead was announced "too early" and it ended up being one of the best selling and reviewed Xbox exclusives in recent memory. Only someone who constantly lacks the confidence in what they have greenlit like Phil Spencer care about "too early". The "press" and especially gamers don't give two shits.

Well.
Gears 5 is in full production. Release late 2019 maybe Sept 2020 if it gets extra polish.
At the same time, they start staffing up now for something new. The team is efficient, and Phil Spencer now no longer having to answer to higher ups, greenlights this new project.
http://www.gamesradar.com/xboxs-201...-people-behind-gears-halo-minecraft-and-more/I cannot wait for fans to see what we have in store – 2018 is going to be a huge year for the Forza community. We have some spectacular announcements and new experiences coming up.

If you factor in acquisitions that are coming, MS will soon be a lot stronger.
Bill Giese (Creative Director at Turn 10) teasing a big year for Forza fans.

I think they are going to be doing VR.
The job postings on their site doesn't represent a studio ramping up production for a second game, its just Gears roles. That's not to say they don't offer help and support to other studios making Xbox games but I just do t see them having a new IP coming any time soon. There's enough good rumours floating about just now that we don't need to start going overboard on what was probably a mistake :)
I'm super pumped for it. Seems like a really fun co-op game.No excitement for Crackdown 3 four player co-op? I'm super pumped for this one!

He's just talking about hypothetical acquistions, based on that Spencer comment.
He didn't. He said "B-K" afaik. Rare Replay at E3 happened. Technically he wasn't wrong with this one to be honest - whatever the sources were. That's the problem with these kind of rumors ... They often get forwarded with wrong info, resulting in wrong expectations.

http://www.mcvuk.com/articles/conso...loper-acquisitions-and-game-streaming-serviceI see. Seems like a bit of a stretch assuming MS is about to go on some shopping spree for studios.
To exactly no one's surprise.
I'm shocked, shocked!
New gaming IP. Could go either way, really. Big thing about it that makes me think it's not is that it's just a fairly unknown short story - not really something you'd throw one of your big AAA studios into.Wouldn't a game based on a book not be a new IP, it would be considered as licensed right ?
Does it say anything in the description?
It's absolutely a stretch.I see. Seems like a bit of a stretch assuming MS is about to go on some shopping spree for studios.
Lol... They better not. :p
Personally I'm really pumped for C3, purely because I enjoyed the hell out of the original game (not so much 2). Despite the weak showing at E3, I still think this one could be special if MS give it the right attention. No excitement for Crackdown 3 four player co-op? I'm super pumped for this one!
Nothing like Souls actually. To be honest there isn't anything like it even to this date.I didn't play a lot of Phantom Dust but is that even remotely similar to the Souls games?
Wasn't it last year or the year before it that Spencer tweeted he liked Mech Assault a lot and basically said they could return to it someday?
Man, even if they simply remade the original Banjo with updated assets/levels.. that would be amazing. Especially as a primer to test the demand for a new game. I really hope MS looks to the success of Mario and how it could translate to Banjo. The Banjo project is Banjo_20A, Banjo Kazooie came out June 1998 so presumably, this project is an HD remaster for the 20th anniversary of Banjo which is still Banjo but not a sequel.
Why come out and say I will make acquisitions . ............... If he doesnt intend to make acquisitons?
Not hating on Phil Spencer or anything, but PR people gonna PR.
i don't know why anybody would think that those mo-cap guys taking down that page means that the new IP is confirmed. For me, it's the opposite, actually. It confirms that it was a mistake. :P
Well they did try to acquire Bluehole..Phil Spencer has never said anything that wasn't backed up. It's just people expect games and studios to grow on trees.
It takes time. The last few years he has had to sort out hardware as well.

Sure, I can accept the fact that Spencer probably had to deal with all the issues caused by the previous leadership these last few years, so I'll be more lenient on him for this gen.
But if things don't improve at all next gen, I think we can call Spencer's leadership a bust.
That I agree with.
The next 5 years are for me his time to show what he can do.

He could start by actually creating a studio instead of closing them.

I'm not well-versed on this, but which studios were closed while he was in charge of Xbox?

Lionhead, Press Play, Big Park, Team Dakota, let go of Twisted Pixel. Then there were those four small teams that never did anything - LXP, Big Science and I can't remember the other two. That's not all bad though, sometimes you need to make tough decisions though now that he's talked about acquisitions, he needs to to it. That simple.
