Well I have a bunch of brushes and paints for other stuff but definitely dont have anything for this specifically, no. Any recommendations on where to start?
Yeah I am sure i will be there quite a bit asking for help on things. For now I am just excited to get started.
I guess the best brushes to get depend on where you're actually based
I'd assume if you've been doing other painting that your brush care is already up to scratch so it's worth getting decentish brushes. I like Rosemary & Co and Winsor & Newton but people really vary. For beginner brushes I think Army Painter do OK!
As for paints you'll get a lot of people recommending Citadel (GW's own line), Army Painter and Vallejo.
You can't really go too wrong with any of those, and there are others worth looking into too. Really you're just looking for acrylic paint of whatever type you're comfortable with - just remember that whatever paints you go for you'll need to thin them to the consistency of skimmed milk & I'd recommend you shake the everloving crap out of them before you apply.
The only other thing to think about as a beginner really is primer - you'll want to prime your models before you paint them.
The best 2 methods are either with spray primer or an airbrush. Obviously an airbrush is a big investment (and a whole extra skill) so it's best to just start with some cans of spray primer.
People will tell you to get expensive primer, but really any acrylic primer will do but it's important to prepare the spray can first. Shake it up for a good minute, then leave it in some warm water for a few minutes - finally give it another good shake (for 2-3 minutes ideally - really shake the crap out of that thing) then apply in short sharp bursts where you strafe the model. There's a great tutorial on this on Luke's APS - the youtube channel I recommend in the OP.
All this sounds a bit overwhelming, but it's really quite simple. I'd say the best idea is to get some throwaway models and practice on them first! If you're in the UK let me know and I may have a couple I can send you
