Minneapolis protests over murder of George Floyd. Police response more severe than when white supremacists stormed capitol. (See Threadmarks to help)

Look I want positive changes too and hope for justice and police reform too. But all the burn it all people in this thread are starting to get to me, they have no attachment to our city. I’m frustrated at everything going on and includes both George’s death and the city getting destroyed.
If the people of that city legitimately cared, they would have voted differently. This recent murder wasn't the first sign of trouble. It's been going on for a long time.

I’m well aware of that, I can still express my feelings can I not? That doesn’t negate me also being pissed at George’s death. Sorry I’m not on team burn it all down.
What are people supposed to do? The Rodney King verdict was almost 30 years ago. There's a new video of police murdering black people every week. The time for peaceful protest is long past us.

What exactly would you propose the rioters do as an alternative?

And why is it that every single time people in the US are massacred by police does the conversation suddenly shift to "them darn rioters" and not the systemic issues creating those masscres. Make no mistake, I don't think your intention in making this statement is malicious in any way, but the conversation in conservative circles certainly is and shifting the focus of the conversation like this doesn't help anything.

Non-violent tactics, while useful and valid, have almost always done nothing but served state interests when they've been the sole tactic employed by movements, and this is why they're constantly preached by the same authorities that are happy to be filmed for 10+ minutes while asphyxiating a black man to death. Because on its own non-violence is completely ineffectual at creating any real, systemic change.

Besides, it's not like anybody would be paying any attention to the protesters or having any of these conversations if they were all dressed in surfer shorts, singing kumbaya, quoting Gandhi, and assuming the lotus position to summon good vibes from the universe.

The only constituency that most states recognise is the influencing power of capital, so I say hit them where it hurts, and hit them hard.
ALL 👏🏾OF 👏🏾THIS! 👏🏾

Just a head's up for folks that might want to share things on social media. Be careful to not share anything that might show a good look of faces of those protesting. We do not want another situation like in Ferguson where a lot of protesters died from "accidents" over the past few years.

I hear you. When I first moved to Minneapolis, I lived 2 blocks from there. I live 3 miles from there now. I love my city and I love that area.

But or city is more than buildings, it's people. And our people have been getting terrorized and we haven't been listening.

I'm not on the burn it all down page either. But I also understand it. I'm sad because we got to this point. Like I said though, the police had huge numbers defending the murders house. We know where their priorities are.
Yeah I’m pissed that police are prioritizing themselves over the community. Just hope justice and as little harm to any people caught up in this. I’m just sad but also just kind of frustrated with this thread in general. I don’t know what else to say I guess I won’t say anything else because as a white liberal no here gives a shit what I think anyways.

I'm not sure what it is. And besides the fact of being black...

Klan outfits always creeped me the fuck out. Besides them being 100% worn by cowards their aesthetic just seems like something out of a horror movie.

Fuck the cops.
Their outfits are both creepy and ironic. Like most shite supremacist standards, they stole it from somebody else. The pointed hood was originally worn by Catholic penitents as a public display of repentance for their sins. Later on some inbred fuckwit in the South came across them and thought they'd make a great uniform for his degenerate brethren.

Sometimes you lose a couple of buildings if people are to be heard. They can be rebuilt. Meanwhile if the protests were 100% peaceful they would have been ignored and pattered out. I bet you wouldn't even remember them, but, you'll remember this won't you?

The Klan started at a time when ferocious racism was in plentiful supply but not actually a part of their low rent Shriner/Freemasonry clone (it was just assumed I guess since it was very much a “Southern Imperial “ and therefore de facto pro slavery deal. - I’m not sure when the uniforms were created but it may have pre-dated the rebooting/evolution of the weirdo gentleman’s cigar and spanking club as “dollar racism store”

I understand, but at the same time this has been escalating so much and sadly this is history repeating itself several cities burned until the civil rights act passed. Clearly there needs to be a mass fairness in policing act passed or something of this nature to finally put a stop to this shit and hold police accountable for their actions vs civilians.

Don't want turn this into too much of a derail, but the clansuit is a near identical low rent copy of the Nazarenos' ceremonial robes.

It really is fitting that the most iconic thing these shitheads are associated with is something they copied.

I once upon a time tried to become a firefighter.

They can be quite racist as well.
Yep, it's pretty widespread in their ranks. A friend of the family was a firefighter in Boston and just couldn't deal with the amount of racism and abuse he was subjected to over the course of a decade on the job. Eventually it became simply too much and he abandoned the profession.

Sickening stuff.

Again. White "liberals" love to tout their liberalism as long as it doesn't cost them anything. They'll speak correctly (most of the time), put people of color in ads, etc., but will they make sacrifices for POC? No.

This is the difference of a ally and a "liberal" when you have the opportunity to opt out, do you? That says it all.
Convenience and privilege. It's a dangerous combination.

Couldn't agree more. Nailed it. Though I would add self professed "progressive" to this as well.

Feds and cops have been levying assassinations and bombings on us for ages. Don't think it's a tactic that suddenly became unfashionable. Do what you can to protect the people on the ground.
That I knew but for it to be as recent as the Ferguson protest? Jesus...

Nothing has changed, they just had to be sneakier about it.

Yes and no. People involved in those movements have died in weird ways, but there's no evidence that they were tied to their action protesting and a lot of their friends and family have asked people not to spread the theory. This episode of This American Life does a good job of explaining the situation.

In general it's probably a good idea to help keep people's anonymity intact anyway

We shouldn't have to care. Especially if you have more to say about totally replaceable property being damaged or stolen than the cops getting away with yet another murder

yes, you can clearly see the energy evolve over time. This country still have us resorting to tearing shit up in order to get some basic fucking crumb of human rights.

We will defend our lives, it’s a promise
It's been this way forever. The ruling class will oppress
Cops are not our friends, and I’m not even black to have to say this. At least some ppl starting to realize this more and more.

To protect and serve means to protect and serve the people in power.
Police protect wealth.

I’m guessing this may have already been posted, but yeesh this is awful. They’re clearly doing this shit to send a message which is sickening. They don’t give two shits about a man losing his life to BS. Why did it have to come to this...
This is disgusting. They really don't give a shit about POC. They made their statement. Their stand.

Modern day KKK is what they are.

I know I just posted this, but you all HAVE to fucking read this article.

Just look at this aged like milk quote:

Here's the thing that every bootlicker likes to ignore. You choose to be a cop, you don't choose to be black.

Understand that a city can be rebuilt, but not a life. When shit like this happens, it's because the people are not being heard and this is their response.
As MLK put it succintly:
…I think America must see that riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality, and humanity. And so in a real sense our nation’s summers of riots are caused by our nation’s winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again. Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention.
So it rings hollow to tut-tut their actions as if justice will be met by them doing the same shit that has allowed them to be oppressed and silenced.
