How come I find out about this report only today?

OPCW Issues Fact-Finding Mission Reports on Chemical Weapons Use Allegations in Douma, Syria in 2018 and in Al-Hamadaniya and Karm Al-Tarrab in 2016

THE HAGUE, Netherlands —6 July 2018—The Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), issued an interim report on the FFM's investigation to date regarding the allegations of chemical weapons use in Douma, Syria on 7 April 2018.

The FFM's activities in Douma included on-site visits to collect environmental samples, interviews with witnesses, data collection. In a neighbouring country, the FFM team gathered or received biological and environmental samples, and conducted witness interviews.

OPCW designated labs conducted analysis of prioritised samples. The results show that no organophosphorous nerve agents or their degradation products were detected in the environmental samples or in the plasma samples taken from alleged casualties. Along with explosive residues, various chlorinated organic chemicals were found in samples from two sites, for which there is full chain of custody. Work by the team to establish the significance of these results is on-going. The FFM team will continue its work to draw final conclusions.

The Fact-Finding Mission also issued a report on 2 July 2018 addressing allegations of chemical weapons use in Al-Hamadaniya, Syria on 30 October 2016, and Karm al-Tarrab, Syria on 13 November 2016. On the basis of the information received and analysed, the prevailing narrative of the interviews, and the results of the laboratory analyses, the FFM cannot confidently determine whether or not a specific chemical was used as a weapon in the incidents that took place in the neighbourhood of Al-Hamadaniyah and in the area of Karm al-Tarrab. The FFM noted that the persons affected in the reported incidents may, in some instances, have been exposed to some type of non-persistent, irritating substance.

So in four cases an international fact-finding mission found no evidence that Assad gassed his own population. The international retaliatory missile attack on various Syrian targets was based on a lie. Russia was absolutely right that the Douma gas attack was staged like they said right from the start.

And just to be clear, the OCPW is not some Russian backed shady club, it's the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is an intergovernmental organisation and the implementing body for the Chemical Weapons Convention, which entered into force on 29 April 1997. The OPCW, with its 193 member states, has its seat in The Hague, Netherlands, and oversees the global endeavour for the permanent and verifiable elimination of chemical weapons.

What a surprise! What was the purpose of such limited strikes given the evidence was fabricated? They had no chance of toppling Assad's regime or changing the course of the war. The effect of the strikes was minimal to non-existent in the larger scale of the conflict.

So now when and if Assad actually gasses his people next, Russia can be like "this one is fake too!"

Boost in the polls. Make it look like he was doing something.

The OCPW found evidence for the use of chemical weapons in Syria. From the same link:

The FFM's mandate is to determine whether chemical weapons or toxic chemicals as weapons have been used in Syria. It does not include identifying who is responsible for alleged attacks. Attribution was part of the mandate of the OPCW-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism, set up by the UN Security Council, which expired in November 2017.

The FFM has previously confirmed with a "high degree of confidence" the use of chlorine, sulfur mustard, and sarin as weapons.

I don't know if this was before or after Syria destroyed its chemical stockpiles. The OCPW oversaw the whole operation.

I wasn't aware people were reporting it as nerve agents being used in the first place. I always heard just chemical attacks.

The Russian "investigative" team was there weeks before international teams were allowed in though...

Was OP banned for this thread, if so is it fake?

It looks like OP was mainly banned for posting it in another old thread which had a title that really shouldn't be bumped, though the content was part of it?

...though their ban message included a note of junior status; can juniors post threads now?

Nah, it says in the OP the FFM found explosive residues and various chlorinated organic chemicals. I don't ever remember it being portrayed as nerve agents, just chemicals. But certain people will use this to try and forget the Russian & Assad airstrikes, I bet.
Annex 3 on the report mentions that the elements detected on their samples did not match CWC-scheduled chemicals, tho.

Which means that while there were chlorinated organic chemicals, they were not of the types generally used in chemical weps.

They didnt run tests on all materials they collected tho, only on all the bodies and a bunch of samples.

The Russian "investigative" team was there weeks before international teams were allowed in though...

They also took plasma samples from the bodies.

That's one hell of an assumption - this

On the basis of the information received and analysed, the prevailing narrative of the interviews, and the results of the laboratory analyses, the FFM cannot confidently determine whether or not a specific chemical was used as a weapon in the incidents that took place in the neighbourhood of Al-Hamadaniyah and in the area of Karm al-Tarrab

does not mean that no attack took place. OP is projecting hard.

Man, the Syrian civilians can never get a break, just non-stop warfare and suffering for millions of people.

I really recommend that people look directly at the report, and especially at annex 3.

While the OP's conclusions might be inflammatory, this report brings some interesting news into the matter.

What's the halflife of such chemicals? The team were prevented access by several means in attempts to delay their testing. The regime has used such tactics on many occasions.

Since this appears to be a misleading OP made by a banned member, this thread is closed. If someone would like to make this topic with a more comprehensive perspective they may do so.
