Unmarked spoilers? I can finally say: Wes Bentley's character was giving off super weird vibes in that last act. I kept waiting to see what was up with that.
There was a couple of neat nods to The Dark Knight films in this, I thought: most notably the score, but also Ethan outrunning a stream of cop cars on bike ala TDKR, and giving Cavill the Two-Face treatment.
Yeah, I found the movie pretty easy to follow.

The plan to extract Solomon Lane was also a lot like Joker's plan to get Dent in the police escort.
Easily my favorite action move since Mad Max: Fury Road. Barely a dull moment at all throughout the entire film. Paris was stellar. <3

If Tom Cruise ever quits Scientology to found a cult dedicated to worshiping this movie, I will be the first in line to pledge my soul and worldly possessions.
There are so many smart choices in this movie. Like, for instance, the way that McQuarrie tips his hand quite early that Walker is "John Lark", and then arranges the reveal in such a way that it's not played at all like a shocking moment for the characters or the audience, but rather it has Walker himself being surprised.
In the five days prior to Thursday I rewatched the first five films on a nightly basis, which turned out to be particularly pertinent, since McQuarrie somehow manages to tie all of them (except for poor orphaned 2, unless I missed something) together, particularly from 3 onward. I especially liked that the issue of Julia was dealt with decisively, as the exact status of their relationship was kind of hanging over Rogue Nation whenever Ethan and Ilsa were together. They did a great job of giving Julia a proper explanation/sendoff here (I also like that, while nobody could be under the wrong impression by the end of the movie, they don't have it end with Ethan and Ilsa making out or anything like that).
R.I.P., Secretary Hunley. Being the head of the IMF seems to be a more dangerous occupation than being on Ethan's actual team.
Initially I assumed that at some point the White Widow was going to learn (or else already knew) that "Lark" was the man who doublecrossed her mother, but I guess that was just an Easter Egg (unless that's being saved for a sequel, since this series has plot continuity now).

Excellent movie. Lived up to the hype for me. And yeah that was a good send off for Julia. I'm guessing also Angela Bassett will be the new head of IMF in the next movie. I'm hoping Christopher McQuarrie sticks around to direct and that Cruise is somehow able to top the crazy shit he did in this movie.
By this point, who would sign on to be head of the IMF? They either disappear or get killed off every movie.
This was a blessing in disguise. Now my wife doesn't care if I go a second time.
The scene in the cabin with Ilsa, Benji and Solomon was my favorite sequence. By far the darkest and most grim the franchise has gotten.
This was likely the best in the franchise, which is something I heard a number of other people say when we were walking out.

I loved this movie. It surpassed every expectation I had and sits way up there with T2 and The Dark Knight for me. It actually did comedy and emotion better than TDK as well. Just a fantastic time at the movies and I can't wait to see it again.

I bit my fingers off at the third act. It takes a little to get going, but once it does, holy shit
I'm shocked at how good this was. I liked Rogue Nation but McQuarrie really stepped up his game on this one. Really excellent movie.
I think my favorite surprise/reveal was Vanessa Kirby being Max's daughter. A cool little Easter egg, and an inspired casting choice for it.

I liked that, despite Lane being so fixated on Ethan, it was Ilsa who took him down.
It's crazy how they manage to make the audience feel tense despite knowing the cast isn't going to die.
That was a brutally fantastic fight scene.

I love this series and it's as strong as it ever was but there's a really nice sense of finality with the way they connected this to the previous films and the way it resolves itself. I'm super content and would be more than fine with the series going out like this.
Bravo, what a fucking movie. I need more time to digest, because coming out it feels like my favorite Tom Cruise movie, my favorite MI movie, and my favorite movie of the year. That's how much of an adrenaline rush it is. It is GORGEOUS, intense, and fun as hell. The double cross on Walker had the audience cheering so loud. Cavill was great, everyone was great.
The chase sequence from the moment they crash into Soloman's escort vehicle to the moment Ethan runs over llsa is easily one of the best action set pieces of the decade. Right up there with Fury Road.

Both myself and the person I saw this with found this film to be a bit dull and plodding. I never watched Ghost Protocol or Rogue Nation so there's at least that as a reason why I might not be as involved with this film as other people are, but it seemed like they made the story approachable enough for newcomers.

I tend to hate plots that revolve around "The terrorists have infiltrated the entire CIA!" That just seems mind-blowingly dumb in the face of how rigorous their background checks are. I honestly can't even let it slide in a dumb comic book movie like Winter Soldier, so here it's even more frustrating.

After stewing on it for a couple of hours, I can comfortably say that was the best Mission Impossible of all time, and it was the best action movie I've seen in recent memory. That halo jump had my palms sweatier than a mother...just wow. I loved that opening. I totally didn't see that coming. The bathroom scene was SO GOOD! I mean, who the fuck was that guy?? They literally had a Mad Dog from Raid in this movie lmao. He laid them out. That scene was so, clean? It was just perfect. It also reminded me of true lies' bathroom scene.
