Next few seasons will suck :(

I'd be all for tearing the team apart and fielding AAA guys but somehow I don't think that will happen. Sub .500 mediocrity instead of a proper rebuild :(

As someone that is currently watching a team fielding AAA guys after tearing the team apart, I can confirm it's way more fun than when they constantly were a 70-75 win team.

the bad season means better draft picks and I get to watch the players grow and have hope for the future.

that being said, I imagine the white sox will make a move for a long term piece. They will likely be in hard for either Manny Machado or Bryce Harper. Not expecting them to actually get them, but wouldn't be surprised if they were one of the last teams that missed out on both of them.

they have made it clear they are only interested in signing long term talent in regards to high costing Free agents. So aside from those two and maybe Patrick Corbin I can't see them seriously chasing anyone for a long term contract as they would only really be interested in players under 30 as they are currently expecting to compete in 2020 and are hoping the window will be open for a while. Thus wouldn't want a bunch of currently 32-33 year olds who will be 34-35 and falling off the map as they actually start being good.

This is pretty much where I'm at regarding personnel even if it means letting both D-Rob and Britton walk and relying on the farm for bullpen reinforcements. I would also like the FO to seriously re-evaluate every member of the coaching staff (I don't think the regression problems with individual players have much if anything to do with Boone, even if his game management can be horrific).

Feels like the Braves are 2ish more years away. Some of the hot hands cooled down a lot down the stretch and while Acuna only kept impressing, Albies did tail off a bit.

If the Yankees manage to steal Goldschmidt, I will probably cry because my Out of the Park Baseball shennaigans finally come true. 3-4 years late but he's still good!

I'm a fan of Goldschmidt, but I rather the Yankees stick with the youth movement instead of trading for a 31-yr old 1B. Pitching is their biggest need. They need at least 2 starters and a couple of bullpen arms, assuming Britton leaves and maybe DRob also.

If Goldschmidt is available they should absolutely be in on him.

I just don't see how he fits into the team's future. It's not like the Yankees have a gaping hole at 1B. If we're going to trade away prospects I rather we do it for pitching. That's the biggest reason why we've been bounced the last two postseasons. We could've traded for Verlander but we went for the cheaper option in Gray. We could've traded for Gerrit Cole but we balked because the Pirates wanted Andujar. All of our direct competitors have stud pitchers and we're stuck with an inconsistent Severino and 55-yr old CC Sabathia.

Yankees didn't go after Verlander because of the luxury tax, it had nothing to do with prospect cost, and the pirates wanted both Frazier and Andujar which is why Cash said no. And I disagree about the gaping hole at first. Voit was great but it was for a month and he was never a top prospect, I wouldn't pencil him in as the starting first baseman of the future. They should at minimum inquire about him if he's available, he's one of the best players in the league.

As for the pitching, they'll be in on Corbin and their own guys. I trust cashman to shore it up.

Look, I'm not bashing Cashman. I think he's done a great job rebuilding our farm system. However, he has not been aggressive enough when it comes to acquiring ace pitchers recently. Patrick Corbin is a nice pitcher, but is he Chris Sale or Verlander? He had a career year this season but overall he's a career .500 pitcher with a 3.91 ERA pitching in the NL West. And our own guys isn't good enough. We've already seen our own guys not being able to match up with Boston's and Houston's rotations.

Also, didn't you say you want Machado? Wouldn't that mean Andujar gets moved to 1B?

There are no ace level pitchers on the free agent market (I'm assuming Kershaw re-ups with the dodgers), Corbin is the next best thing and will only cost money. Happ and CC are more than fine as 4th and 5th starters, assuming they sign Corbin or trade for a sp.

I'd have Andujar learn to play first and the corner outfield spots, he's a horrible defender at third. They could also use him as trade bait to get a sp.

Stud starting pitchers still in their prime aren't usually available on the FA market. By the time they do hit FA they're already close to 30. You gotta go the trade route. Even if Kershaw is available I wouldn't want him at this stage of his career. He's now on the wrong side of 30 with a string of injuries in the last couple years. Anyone who gives him a long-term contract is going to regret it.

Goldschmidt's a great player, but he's 31, right handed, and has only one year left on his current deal with Didi and Hicks already set to be FA's after next year. He's just not worth the prospect cost given all those factors. I think the plan should be that it's Voit's job to lose but Andujar gets reps at 1st all off season and spring training as insurance.

Yep, that's my thought on Goldy as well. I'm really curious what they plan to do with Andujar if the Yanks are indeed interested in Machado. 1B is an option, but he may have the most value as a trade bait because he's got 5 years of control left.

Its amazing how the mets lose lose and lose yet they keep on wanting to hire within.

All because their owners are cheap.

Anyway sucks to hear about DD. Hopefully we can get him back early in the season.

The Yankees are the most valuable and profitable MLB franchise by an order of magnitude, and spent 2018 shedding payroll while generating significantly more revenue than any other team in baseball. If Hal does not spend this offseason and spend big, then yeah he's being cheap.
