From sales, to exciting new releases, to promising games in the works, mobile gaming is vast and growing medium, with entries in genres of every fashion, premium and free alike.

The main post will contain recommended games that released during the previous year. All the games listed will have been highlighted by the ERA community in one way or another. This way you can keep tabs on the best games and at the same time curate an excellent resource to look back on to find games you may have missed.

100x100bb.jpg

iOS / Android
Immortal Rogue is a brutal, swipe-controlled action roguelike. You play as a vampire that wakes up every 100 years to feed. Who you choose to hunt directly impacts the future and changes the game world. Different timelines offer different enemies to defeat and unique items to discover. You can fight samurai with a rocket fist from a long lost civilization, or take out cyborgs with an enchanted katana.

The combat is challenging, and defeat has consequences. But you can never truly die. The world goes on with both your allies, and your enemies, awaiting your return.

Photographs - Puzzle Stories
100x100bb.jpg

iOS / Android
I think you should play Photographs.
I tried to make it a little bit different from most games. It sort of mixes puzzle and narrative in a ( hopefully ) interesting way. You might get stuck on some puzzles, but you should never not know what you need to do to proceed.

So what do you actually do? Well, you search around and solve puzzles, and as you do so you'll be developing a scene in front of you and hearing a story. I want to the story to really stand out, so the game has got really beautiful pixel art and top notch music, combined with gameplay and narrative beats that individually would do a pretty good job of telling that story, but come together to really make something special.

It's a pretty short game too. I would say about three hours. There are loads of games these days and who has time to play them all? I've tried to keep things as condensed as possible rather than add filler, to be as respectful for your time as I can be.

Each story is in a different setting and has completely different gameplay mechanics. It ended up being a LOT of work, but It's kind of necessary: The gameplay itself has a hand in telling the story, so what works for one tale wouldn't work for another.

I don't think there's anything else like it out there, so if nothing else, It should give you a unique experience.

So yeah. That's my pitch, If that sounds interesting to you, give it a shot!

Birk's Adventure
100x100bb.jpg

iOS / Android
During a dark, rainy thunderstorm, mysterious forces appear on the skies over the Kingdom of Nidala.

Birk, a brave townsboy, heads over to the old tower where Merlin lives, in hopes of getting some answers from the elder. Birk learns that the King is missing and the sacred stone tablets which have protected the kingdom for generations have been stolen.

Join Birk in a charming, retro-styled pixel adventure on a quest to unravel the mysteries and restore peace to the kingdom.

Explore the lands, talk to the locals, collect weapons and upgrade your character.

Sayonara Wild Hearts (Apple Arcade)
100x100bb.jpg

iOS
Sayonara Wild Hearts is a dreamy arcade game about riding motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battling, shooting lasers, wielding swords, and breaking hearts at 200 mph.

As the heart of a young woman breaks, the balance of the universe is disturbed. A diamond butterfly appears in her dreams and leads her through a highway in the sky, where she finds her other self: the masked biker called The Fool.

Journey through a custom-written pop soundtrack, chase scores, and set out to find the harmony of the universe, hidden away in the hearts of Little Death and her star-crossed allies: Dancing Devils, Howling Moons, Stereo Lovers and Hermit 64.

Let's Pop!

Nice! Thanks for the OT.

Can't wait to see if Arcade has any significant impact on mobile gaming in the near future. For now I'm not subscribed anymore, as all the games I like to play are not part of it. I really think they shouldn't make all the games mobile phone exklusive. So many great games that could be added then.

Nice OT.
Hoping for some new Apple Arcade sweetness this month. I don't really touch the App Store games outside of that anymore.

Thanks for the new thread and happy new year!!!!

Playing a lot of Call of Duty (almost exclusively seek and destroy, loving every second of it) and having completed all the games I was interested in Apple Arcade looking forward to new titles for it. Hoping Apple after a glorious start steps up the game with maybe fewer titles but bigger franchises/titles.

Also looking forward Diablo Immortal, Path of Exhile, Eve Echoes (Final, liking a lot the beta) and many others!!!

BTW....anyone else playing CoD? We could form a squad and play Seek&Destroy together!

I don't know if many here play COD Mobile but there is a dedicated thread for it in Hangouts.

I messaged 4 mods about making a mobile goty thread before one messaged me back saying they would check with an admin and get back to me. The never did get back to me so I scrapped the idea.

Nothing new again on Arcade today. I know they met their quota on having over 100 games but it still is disheartening to not have a better pace with game adds.

If things aren't kept fresh, more people will unsubscribe for sure.

Edit: I spoke too soon. One new game out now from the same devs as Element RTS:

Wait, Pascal's Wager is premium? I thought for sure it was going to be a freemium game so that's a nice surprise.

9 is pretty good, 7 is like if you were running a kinda mediocre emulator, 6 is known primarily for having had its art butchered, and if there are others I believe they are about like 6. I bought 7 and 9 and am happy with my purchases, I personally won't buy any others unless they ungoof up the graphics.

While 6's new artwork wasn't great, the port itself outside of that is well done with a lot of quality of life improvements (quick saves, fast forward and character selection improvements during battle, better map options, etc.). It's a great port.

Largely agree with Shaun Musgrave 4.5/5 review of it over on TouchArcade. In fact if you want to know how any of the FF ports are, try seeing if he's done a review of them.Always have trusted his opinions (best reviewer on TA by a long shot).

Oh and forgot to mention one big thing, FF 6 was recently updated for modern screens (with functional gameplay area borders).

With retroarch and game streaming next gen could be all about mobile for me. Just need a decent all in one game case solution to arrive.

My first capital ship encounter. Can't remember which system, but I witness an entire convoy with several capital ships and tens of escort different vessels entering a warm hole.
Must have been added in some update.
This game has serious potential....even just messing around is something that has to be seen.

It was pretty intense.

Finally broke my Mario Kart Tour addiction!
After a week of not playing it while I was on vacation for the holidays I just didn't have the urge to keep playing it on a daily basis.

Only paid for 2 months of the Gold subscription I think ($10 or so) and I probably played it for close to 100 hours so I'd say it was a solid deal.

Unfortunately now I have a void and I've had the urge to start Tap Titans 2 back up, haha.

Can anyone suggest a good brick breaker? I liked break labs until the monetization got too scummy. Tried one more brick and didn't like it.

I loved playing the warhammer mmo on pc back then.
Mae this is a mobile mmo it will be nothing like it though, mainly build around gems and shit.
Would be more than happy if I'm wrong.

one day someone will have the balls to make a proper mobile mmo that isn't a terrible cash grab

some day...

Micro Breaker is excellent. IAPs aren't too bad. There's usually a timed discount offered for the "premium pack" that removes forced ads and gives you unlimited energy (usually $8.99 but believe I paid $4.99).

Super sad that the Eve Echoes beta is ending soon.
Despite the steep learning curve (made worse by testing a beta) I really had a ton of fun and I'm really looking towards the final product (sadly not imminent by any means).
I didn't pay a monthly MMO fee since Ultima Online and Everquest but Eve really had its hooks on me, even in the beta state I found it spectacular.
Too bad I was just about to buy a battle cruiser to explore deep space....after working hard to get the necessary skills and gear (including a glorious cloaking device).
Amazed that in such a short timeframe I had so many epic moments and encounters.

Anyway....heads up for anyone playing it that you can now reserve your nickname for the final game (just press upload in the character bio) and see you tomorrow for the final battle event......I'm going there right now (with a 78 jumps travel that is taking one solid real life hour).

Maze Machina is releasing next week:

Trailer:

I've been testing the game for months, possibile the best TinyTouchesTales game yet (and I *LOVE* Card Crawl and Card Thief that I still play).
Combines the speed of Card Crawl with the depth of Card Thief, while being much more accessible.
Top AAA level of polish.
Great game, a must on iPhones imho.

Really hyped for Maze Machina.
I don't like the art style as much as in his previous games, but I'm sure it's gonna be great!
