The only thing I'm curious about with the volume rendering quality option is if it affects or turns on/off things like lightshafts and volumetric lighting or if it only adds the atmosphere simulation.

I'm curious, what's the impact with all the different settings for volume rendering? I personally like the effect.

I have a Ryzen 2700x + 1080 Ti. Plan on doing 4k with Volume Rendering Quality turned off. Wonder how many settings can be put on Highest instead of High, or will I need to rely on Dynamic Resolution to maintain 60 FPS.

Gamespot is doing a livestream as well, running with a 7700K and GTX 1070 at 1080p on I think highest settings except for volume rendering, they were running at like 80+ fps.
At the time of this post they're about to run it at the lowest settings for fun. xD

Gives me hope that my 1050 Ti can manage this on my 1600x900 monitor with a decent framerate at decent settings...

They played with vsync on for a big part of the stream, though they did have drops below 60 with volume rendering on highest.

At the 1 hour mark we can see them switching between volume rendering options (still with vsync on at that point), can see in the background the visual effect of that option, it just looks better with it off.

How good is this game about playing with randoms? I've never been interested in this series until it hit PC, but I have no one to play with.

Yeah, this. I hope there's gonna be an in-depth technical explanation and comparison for the setting that's so demanding. While at a glance it looks better being turned off, I have a feeling that there's more to it than just color tint.

The change in hue is due to the day/night cycle progressing. When I quickly cycle between Low and Highest I actually can't tell a difference in the graphics. If someone likes the effect, maybe they can get away with playing with the setting at Low.

Dynamic? Can individual options be set to change on the fly? That'll be handy, setting what I don't care too much for to that.

That's what I did most on PS4 and it was perfectly fine. There are a few times people wipe too quickly but hey... you're gonna do that too, it happens and the missions are meant to be played multiple times anyways, and then someone will fuck up and wake up a sleeping monster too early, little shit like that. Nothing that has happened to me which could have been avoided by being in direct communication with a group of friends has bothered me past 10 seconds, it's never a big deal, just minor annoyances.

Maybe it's because of Youtube compression, but I'm finding the game to be very underwhelming, visually. I didn't expect that to be something I'd concern myself with. I'm sure it looks better in person.

I guess that stream above looks a bit better, outside of some textures.

I mean, it's in the name. It's volumetrics, meaning its simulating fog and haze. The "tint" is that kind of blue haze that you get when you look at things really far away. I wouldn't be surprised if it also handled god rays.

I haven't tried it yet. I'm downloading the game on that PC right now.

Is there a place in the game where I could easily test if it impacts effects like god rays?

Well, unfortunately, I won't be able to do this test after all. The game crashes as I try to start it on the PC. I haven't used the PC for anything serious in years and I've had some weird problems with the PC over the years, so I'm gonna say this is much more likely to be a problem with the PC than the game.

Its underwhelming visually and requires some bullshit specs. 6 months delay lmao.

This is one of those games that can be easily played with randoms because the gameplay does not require a lot of communication but rather just knowing the monster patterns and being aware of your surroundings.

Thanks for trying! The info you've provided already has been very informative and much appreciated. Looking forward to trying the game out for myself when it launches.

FluffyQuack Are you gonna work on modding tools if time permits?
I've already looked into the PS4 version a while ago and can hook you up with what little I had time to figure out between work and exams to get you started with an unpacker/repacker. I assume the PC archive format won't be vastly different

E: Just seen your post re modding. Shoot me a PM if you want

I don't know how the whole doom 'n gloom started, but I can assure you there is absolutely nothing to worry about with regards to optimization and performance. From a purely performance perspective, our min spec / rec. spec is generally set on the conservative side to ensure there's enough headroom.

As you pointed out, the game is based on our proprietary MT Framework engine. If you're familiar with any of our other games using this tech, you'll know what to expect in terms of performance profile, tweak options, and high scalability that can be adjusted to fit your needs.

Not incredibly familiar with MT Framework engine based games. Can we expect proper 21:9 support at launch or post launch?

You can go ahead and PM me whatever info you have. I can't promise how much I'll end up doing, but I wouldn't mind taking a look to see what's possible.

Are you a reviewer or something FluffyQuack ? How did you get to tinker with the game already?
I got a review build for the game from Capcom. Maybe they got impressed by my apple-hunting-video I recorded of Dragon's Dogma PC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WHegzVujqE

What's the CPU in your 770 PC?

Are you saying graphical fidelity is the only thing that'd cause a bottleneck in a game's performance?

What other heavy mathmatical computations is this game running in the background. It isn't keeping track of thousands or even hundreds of individual AI routines at once. It's not a large scale open world game, so it doesn't have vast draw distances and lots of objects to render all at once. And it's not that pretty of a game (art design aside). The poly's are fairly low, animation stiff, and it doesn't have many things on screen at once.

Let me ask you a question. What is it you think MHW is doing that would make these specs make sense?

Seems like the game is fully update to the latest patch on console, it's just the DLC content that's being released gradually(for obvious reasons) and not the actual version updates. So no deco dub glitch or broken slice ammo.

Didn't watch the video. What's the issue with load times? Too long?
They are long on console, while they're surprisingly fast in these previews. Like, ~45 seconds on console to about 5 on PC.
