There is no crossplay.

Not sure which thread to post this in, but I'll do it here. I got permission from a Capcom rep to post impressions of a review build of the game. The game supports framerates above 60fps (the framerate lock options are 30, 60, and "no limit"). Unlike most MT Framework games, the game can go beyond 120fps, though you'll need a very beefy PC if you want to get close to 100 with settings around max.

If people want me to test specific things, let me know. Note that I haven't played any Monster Hunter game before, so I'm new to everything. I can confirm there are very cute kitties in the game, but I suspect that's the case with the console versions too.

Nice. I have a 1060 and I just hope I can get a solid 60 at medium settings.

Oh damn I never activated the voucher via e-mail thing for GMG, done, hopefully I get a code before the game launches for pre-ordering.

What sort of hardware are you running? Do you have any low to mid-range video cards you could try it with? Thinking GTX 960 or 1050 Ti/R9 270 or RX 560. Just curious what sort of frame rates we're realistically going to see on lower end hardware at say, medium settings or whatever.
i7-4790k, gtx 1080, 16gb ram.

I did a quick performance test in the starting hub (running the game at 2560x1440).

IMPORTANT NOTE: This was done by quickly noting the framerate looking at one of the most complex scenes in the hub (which just so happened to be what the camera was pointed at after when I spawned in the hub). Don't take this as average framerates. But it does highlight the scalability when changing graphics settings.

Highest preset: 44
Highest preset (except for volumetric set to "high"): 50
High preset: 60
Mid preset: 65
Low preset: 108

I've got a second computer with a 770, but I don't know if testing the game on that would be worthwhile at all.

FluffyQuack Are those screens on the highest settings?

Now I can see what they mean by parity with consoles, some of the textures still look rough. I also hate the washed out filter so much, I'm gonna install Reshade from the start to eliminate it. Anyway, some Low and High comparisons would be appreciated.

Fantastic work, dude. Thank you. These are basically my settings too so this is all good news. Gonna have to fiddle with it a bit though to get it running on Ultrawide at 60. Like... a lot of fiddling.

I can't remember the exact settings, but it was highest or close to highest when I took those screenshots.

I think the washed out filter you're talking about is something you can change with a setting called "Volume Rendering Quality". It makes everything at a distance look blurry and foggy. I just tried playing with it off and I think I prefer it that way. The effect also has a VERY high impact on performance. If I play with all settings at highest and volumetric at highest too, then running around in the hub has a framerate ranging from 45 to 60. If I turn the setting completely off and leave all other settings the same, then the framerate ranges from 65 to 100 in the hub.

Textures look rough? Or is it just me? Thanks for doing this.
Note that you're looking at screenshots of a very high resolution, so textures would look worse than usual unless you scale resolution down to your monitor resolution. Textures seem lower res than some other PC games I've played but it hasn't bothered me so far.

I'll test it tomorrow. I don't have the computer fully hooked up right now.

Here's a comparison of the "Volume Rendering Quality" setting at highest and off.

Highest (54 fps): https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme...71556035044179981/582010_20180725075413_1.png
Off (78 fps): https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme...71556022440558592/582010_20180725075426_1.png

I imagine it'll vary on the person if they like the effect or not, but I recommend this is the first thing people tinker with, especially since it has such an enormous impact on performance. I think I'll play with the setting turned to off.

Clearer picture and a bunch of fps? I'll take it off.

It looks so damn nice with it off. Damn hype is building. Hold me guys..

We need to make a Reset Era PC guild.

I made a steam group November of last year so we can join up and maybe add each other.

The way this engine render fur is horrible! Looks passable during motion but the moment the furry object stops moving, it's just an eyesore, PS2 motion blur flashbacks!

Can you take a face close up screenshot of your character during gameplay? The console version swap the highly detailed model in character creator/cutscenes for a low quality one during gameplay, wonder if any of the options allow you to keep the high LoD faces during gameplay.

I notice a lack of ambient occlusion on the grass in some screenshots. Am I wrong or does the game not have any sort of high quality ambient occlusion? I'm not a fan of screen space ambient occlusion but it does help when it's implemented properly and not "floaty" even with the huge performance hit.

when they state "visual parity with consoles", don't expect anything to change in that regard.

What do you mean? The AO looks decent in this screen.

If you're talking about the grasses in the distance, yeah the AO is lacking. Seems like the AO range is just very short.

Yeah, it's the distant patches of grass that look off compared to the closer ones. I'm also noticing the little bone railings around the hub area are lacking AO of some kind like in this screenshot: http://www.fluffyquack.com/mhw-screens/582010_20180725054633_1.png

I forced a 21:9 resolution by changing the ini and that resulted in pillarboxing. Also tried a 4:3 resolution and that resulted in letterboxing. I think I remember this was common with later MT Framework games where they always display as 16:9.

Welp this sucks. Paging Wbacon... Where's the 21:9 support :(

Here's hoping there's a fix around launch.

Damn, gtx1080 can't pull 60 fps even in 1440p on highest settings (with THAT rough graphics). I wonder how shitty this game will run on my gtx970 and 1080p..

I don't know how the whole doom 'n gloom started, but I can assure you there is absolutely nothing to worry about with regards to optimization and performance. From a purely performance perspective, our min spec / rec. spec is generally set on the conservative side to ensure there's enough headroom.

As you pointed out, the game is based on our proprietary MT Framework engine. If you're familiar with any of our other games using this tech, you'll know what to expect in terms of performance profile, tweak options, and high scalability that can be adjusted to fit your needs.

It's a shame you have to come on here to justify the quality of the port but thanks nonetheless.

Yes, please test the 770 if you can.
It shouldn't have any problem beating the performance of a PS4, would like to know how much higher it can go though. Thanks.

Yeah I definitely like way more turned off than turned on. I think "Volume Rendering Quality" effect is turned on in the console version since it had similar effect. I wonder if that what makes the framerate unstable (very dumb if so).
