I always have grand ideas of swapping to a new weapon but after 250+ hours of Bow, I cannot be bothered to relearn something haha.

Going back and wrapping up some of the LR stuff I missed. Utterly forgot to get the Affinity booster item haha.

Hot and cold drinks are mandatory but can be aquired on the fly during the quests that require them. I'd say traps and tranqs are the only optional thing you should always consider. Damage/defense buffs are great but definetely not required. Just keep hacking and slashing. People have been playing and enjoying these games before everything was min-maxed on the internet. Part of the fun is mastering your weapon and learning to read the monsters.

Cool thanks. I'll try and figure out the traps and tranqs so. Appreciate the response, I often get so caught up in the 'right' way to play that I end up not playing at all.

I guess mods are starting to get figured out? Saw someone today with a piece of Buff armor and I think that comes from Rajang doesn't it?

If you get kicked from a session by the leader, does the game tell you?

Can't tell if this game's online is trash or if people just keep kicking me.

I've started this off on PC, loving the vibe and for me anyway it runs like a dream and looks amazing. I feel like I'm just hacking and slashing my way through at the moment. Went with sword and shield but might switch to the dual blade weapon because I don't think I've blocked once so far. So just wondering, how good do you have to be at it to get far, like do you need to completely master the movesets of a given weapon to kill the tougher monsters? Are bombs and traps and all that essential? Status effects etc? These are all things I generally just ignore but I feel that probably isn't going to fly here.
The base game should be manageable even if you aren't the best at your weapon. Once you get into the Iceborne content things will start to get tough.

Woo, finally got Coral/Volcanic/Tundra regions to lvl 7. On that note I've started seeing people with 4 maxed out GL region levels on the ps4.

To add to what others have said - you don't have to be that good to reach the endgame. The only monsters tat require some serious skill are the arch-tempered event quests. The game is generally quite forgiving and high levels of skill are only needed to finish a quest quickly, rather than being able to finish it at all (that said, you will fail quite a few quests on you way).
The game is pretty good at teaching you through gameplay. Tobi teaches you to be careful about "charged" monsters and blights. Anjanath teaches you to too out for big moves and enraged mode. Nergigante teaches you not to be in a hurry about getting up after being knocked down (tip: while you are on the floor you are immune to damage, so pick a safe moment to get back up!)
Fully mastering a moveset takes a long time, and is not needed. What matters most is knowing how to not die. Learning when and where to attack and when to run away. That doesn't mean fully learning a monster's moveset, but knowing their biggest damage moves and how to avoid them e.g. sheath and dive when Nergigante/Teostra/Lunastra fly up into the air. Learning to fight safely is more important than learning how to boost your DPS by using a more effective combo.
In the early game, gather lots of stuff as you follow the monster, especially honey and herbs to keep your megapotions topped up. When you unlock and upgrade "the tree" you can use it to make the essential stuff.
Take a trap and some tranq bombs and use them to finish a limping monster (or one that's sleeping at it's nest).
Craft herbal remedies for poison (they are much better than antidotes) and bring nullberries to cure blights.
You don't need to worry about bombs or any other items until you start fighting elder dragons.
Status effect are just a nice-to-have bonus on most weapons. You don't need to worry about them and most status weapons have lower damage (damage is usually more important). Make a status weapon for your palico when you can.
Matching an elemental weapon to a monster's weakness is moderately important, especially with dual blades. Elemental damage is more important for fast/low-damage weapons and less important for slow/high-damage weapons. You can still beat a monster with the 'wrong' element since the majority of damage will be from raw damage.

I tried to use the bow in the arena and got my ass handed to me, I'm very proficient in all melee weapons but I completely forgot how to use the bow.

Challenges me to use the bow more so I don't get left behind.

I recommend the long sword if you want play melee after the bow, the dodging will feel familiar.

Does anyone know of a decent endgame great sword (for PC) that doesn't look terrible? Not feeling Immovable Dharma or Acid Shredder II. I miss the days of Wyvern Ignition :(

the ones I can think of are Tigrex GS but that one has negative affinity and I wouldn't call it pretty, Velkhana's for monsters with ice weakness and Brachydios which I love the design but is 40 traw weaker than Acid shredder II.

This is dumb as hell. Need Teostra gear. They give me one investigation and it needs to be done in 20 minutes, which gives me enough time to get it down to like 30% with the gear I currently have.

Is insect glaive capable of being good? It's literally all I've been using, but now I feel like I'm getting kicked out of groups and I'm incapable of doing investigations with lower time limits like this one unless I swap weapons.

Also, am I doing something wrong? What's the counter to an enraged monster? That's three times now in a single hunt where the monster enraged while I was attached to it with the claw weapon trying to turn it toward a wall.

Edit: Looks like they gave me one with a 35 min. limit with better rewards. Why is that a thing? Why wouldn't the rewards scale directly with the max players, time limit, and faints? Why is it all actually RNG?

Wyvrrn Ignition has a master rank upgrade

Be on the lookout for the new event quest that gives the upgrade materials during the fest this weekend

Yeah Investigations are basically RNG but the RNG can swing in your favor as well by giving extra faints, money, and rewards

Some teostra tips

- Use Water Weapons (since your are using insect Glaive) and max out that element with either the charm or some decos.
- I would also saw run 2 piece velkhana for critical element but you may want to pair it with another armor set that has good fire defense.
- Have your defensive skills. Health Boost 3 and Divine Blessing 3
- Bring tools for the job. Teostra is actually a good monster to use Fireproof mantle on as well as health booster. Temporal Mantle is always useful
- Have fortify and felyne insurance if possible

Combat Tips

- With the right defensive skills just get right up in his face. I am not an Insect glaive main but I think the core flow is to get your buffs and then use grounded combos. Teostra leaves a lot of opening and is vulnerable on his flank. Get right up in there around where his front legs and torso and go to town. Go for the Head on Knockdowns

- You may have an easier time solo since solo scaling is relatively easy to handle. Get your cat setup with a good tool like the healing or shield. If you have unlocked the tailraider signal use that too

Good luck man!

I think if I had a 20 minute Teo investigation I would use them all up farming Teo tracks to get better investigations. Teo is such a good boi and walks around peacefully, so you can easily farm tracks. Unlike Luna who aggros from a million miles away.
Also, am I doing something wrong? What's the counter to an enraged monster? That's three times now in a single hunt where the monster enraged while I was attached to it with the claw weapon trying to turn it toward a wall.
Monsters go enraged if you turn them more than 3 times before hitting them with the slinger burst. If you can manage to only turn them once before bashing them into a wall, you can often do it once more when they get back up.

This is at the start of the fight. It gets progressively easier to make them enraged as the fight progresses, until they do go enraged. Then it resets when they calm down, and you're back to 3-turns-and-a-burst. What I do is try to get a wallbang as soon as the fight starts, and get one every time they stop being enraged. If you have Agitator you even get a notification that it's wallbanging time.

I main IG, and Teo and Luna (and Brachy) are the monsters that kill me, unless I wear a set that counters their bullshit.

I finally hit HR100 and got the Sapphire Star's Guidance quest, which is absolutely piss easy when you have Master Rank gear!

It was definitely fun (and cathartic) steamrolling all these elder dragons one after another.

You can use a couple of different weapons if you wanna do crit draw since frostcraft actually makes ele greatswords decent.

Dharma or Acid Shredder 2 are the best raw ones until you get the Nergy greatsword, which isn't actually strictly better than those two in any way but it has great raw and insane sharpness so you don't need any handicraft.

It's not that bad in HR gear, I did it on my first try back when I was a MH n00b. I think I had less than a minute left when I landed the final hammer blow on ol' Nergy :) Spent most of my precious time on stupid Kushala.

What should I do with excess decorations? Just dropping them in the melder? I read that there's an upgrade for the melder that you can unlock, but it uses specific guiding lands material if I understood correctly. So nothing to do with my stacks of elemental resist decorations? :/

Thanks. And is the best tier of melding I can do using old decorations still strange stream, like in the base game?

I believe there are a bunch of new options as well for Master Rank but I have no idea what items are required

Also be on the lookout for special tickets at the steamworks during the next festival that basically let you mass farm decos of all kinds

I was discussing this in the Smash thread, but I was hoping you all would also give your two cents. In the even that we get the Monster Hunter in Smash (which is entirely possible, their Mii Costumes have yet to return & clearly Sakurai was in contact with Capcom going by the RE spirits), how do you feel about these armor sets as possible costumes?
  • My Original Idea
    1. Female Hunter with Rathalos armor (Default)
    2. Male Hunter with Rathalos armor
    3. Female Hunter with Kirin armor
    4. Male Hunter with Kirin armor
    5. Female Hunter with Zinogre X armor
    6. Male Hunter with Zinogre X armor
    7. Female Hunter with Nergigante armor
    8. Male Hunter with Nergigante armor
  • My Idea After Consulting SmashEra (without armor parity)
    1. Female Hunter with Rathalos armor (Default)
    2. Male Hunter with Rathian armor
    3. Female Hunter with Kirin armor
    4. Male Hunter with Nargacuga armor
    5. Female Hunter with Gore Magala armor
    6. Male Hunter with Nergigante armor
    7. Female Hunter with Zinogre armor
    8. Male Hunter with Brachydios armor
  • My Idea After Consulting SmashEra (with armor parity)
    1. Female Hunter with Rathalos armor (Default)
    2. Male Hunter with Rathalos armor
    3. Female Hunter with Kirin armor
    4. Male Hunter with Kirin armor
    5. Female Hunter with Gore Magala armor
    6. Male Hunter with Gore Magala armor
    7. Female Hunter with Zinogre armor
    8. Male Hunter with Zinogre armor
I'm open to any suggestions.

I'm not sure the numbers matter when Sticky is so comfortable. It's piss easy to get max damage and Wide Range 5 to keep dumb randos alive, which I'm sure Water would have a harder time doing.

I think the consensus is Sticky for the first run where you try to break parts, and Water when your goal is the slay. I just run sticky on both, except I focus on getting as many KOs as possible on the slay run. The focus is usually on me even with just sticky with randos, I put on my temporal mantle to tank and put it to sleep when it wears off. I farcast out of there if I get the focus again.

Many have said the the adept stormslinger meta build is insane dps on it and I think I have everything to do the meta build. I'm pretty wary of the double chip damage though, it's basically the build I use to kill myself in the GL...

Was lucky enough to get a second Furor+ decoration over the weekend and now my elemental LBG sets are at their absolute peak. Now back to grinding for an Attack+ jewel which I'm not sure even exists at this point.

So for sword and shield, the best option is to have a whole slew of elemental weapons with high affinity if you want to hit weaknesses and then the pink rathian one for poison, right?

Got to GL with insect glaive and crafted my Infinite Wisdom so I'm ready to start branching out again.

Safi Aquashot with water ammo build hands down
Dont use the sticky build for it
Me and my team usually go 4 lbgs in area 1 and 2 and then go two LBGs and two melee weapons in area 3
We get consistent full energy p1 runs as the only team doing safi with reward level 14.
Area 1 its the best to flinch safi into one of the boulders
Flash safi out of his first nuke in area 2 and then a second time
Area 3 first nuke flash him again and prepare 3 para shots in supercritical state so the 4th para shot knocks him out of the nuke when he does it again and he gets para
Here is a run from my perspective
Though in this run we didnt use the flashes and para in area 3 yet
We were trying stuff out as safi sometimes did a double nuke without rocks
He does that when he is flashed too often in area 3 out of nukes or actually flinshing him out of attacks that drop rocks
So we tried some other tactics in area 3 there

Water, although Stormslinger can be used as well. Normal start for me:

Phase 1: Stormslinger w/Partbreaker, focus on back leg to push to decayed ground under rocks. Shoot the rocks right before it gets up, focus on wings when grounded.
Phase 2: Aquashot Water w/Partbreaker, focus on breaking what legs you already haven't.
Phase 3: DPS set (you can still use Aquashot Water but can prob drop Partbreaker, I usually switch to Hammer. Here is where you get your two head breaks and chest break. Save all your KO's, mounts, gas trips for the supercharged state of possible. Flash, para, sleep to interrupt novas.

This is how I've managed to get single run R15's (with a competent crew obv).

How many creatures they introduced after the vanilla game but before iceborne? (They all have an introduction cutscene? I love that shit)

Do i want to grind these creatures or the defender set is enough until iceborne contents?

Thanks.

This is the big issue with pure DPS sets like this. When you're playing with randos, you can't rely on them at all to be consistent at breaking parts, getting wounds, or just keeping themselves alive.

That's why I run Sticky + Wide Range to keep everyone safe and make sure that we actually get the rewards at the end, even if it takes two runs.

I don't really try to run Safi with randos ever to be fair but I understand not everyone has that luxury.

They released 5 for World base, with Deviljoh, Kulve, Lunastra, Behemoth and Leshen.

You could maybe make a case for counting Behemoth Extreme and Ancient Leshen too.

Ancient Leshen is technically considered a different monster. It has its own materials and its own page in the research guide.

Love the expansion. Lots of great fights and the guiding lands are cool (so far). HOWEVER:

The final boss of IB is such a pain. Worst fight in series history? It just drags and drags, and there's no challenge whatsoever. And it comes right after a super fun one. Such a harsh contrast.

Also, could Namielle's model be more annoying? Who thought putting those huge wings on it was a good idea? Can't see a damn thing half the time!

If you wallbounce him into some parts of the map, you can drop rocks on him in phase 1. Should be about 21k damage each time (up to two? I've only done it two times.) I think you can do it in phase 2 as well but I've not been able to wallbounce him myself to confirm. It certainly makes the fight go much faster in phase 1.

For Namielle, isn't there a setting to see your silhouette through monsters? Might help.

Right, it's probably about equivalent effort with the deviants they're adding in Iceborne's next updates so it's probably fair to count it separate for that.
