Even though I've been playing for roughly 60 hours, I'm still pretty overwhelmed by all the interlocking parts in this game:

I've just reached Coral Pukei Pukei in Iceborn. Still using the Diablos Smasher 2 hammer I got prior to Iceborn. Any recommendations of what hammer I should aim for next? I want something that looks cool but is also reasonably powerful.

the astral armor vip bonus doesn't work if you join mid quest, so what is there any bonus to responding to SOS calls with it on?

The Kurogane II is easy to make and has carried me all the way past Velkhana in Iceborne PC. I just slotted in an elemental-less gem, KO and Exhaust gems. It's pretty basic looking, so an alternative could be the new Guild Palace hammer though I'm unsure of the MR needed for the event quest.

The previous Joy Fest armour said the same thing but my experience by having joined a bunch of HR SOS quests with it is that the text might be incorrectly translated. The high odds of tickets seemed to apply anyways (or I was inordinately lucky with VIP Joy tickets) . I suspect it doesn't apply if you join after the 10 minute mark.

Tell you what, seeing all these cool weapons that are not bows, seriously bums me out. Also the cool one was a PS exclusive thing too.

which quest is the penguin one? lol
If you're on PC it's not available. You can do the one where you have to gather 8 iceblooms though, if you run Geology, 1pt Botany(the items are herbs so you get 2 per gather) Master Gatherer(charm) and Intimidator, start Northeast camp, takes about 40seconds too(Assassin's creed mantle to go a bit faster). RNG a bit though if you don't get 8 iceblooms from the 3 nodes right outside you have to go find more which takes a bit longer I think but with Geology you should be getting them.

You surprisingly get good decorations spamming that too, got a bunch of them including a nice Agitator/Health Boost.

All the new guild weapons are straight out of Warframe. They are basically all prime designs and look amazing as a result. It's just such a dam shame there is no weapon transmog because they will almost all go unused.

I tried to make the lbg work, but I'm just not a big fan of single fire elemental. It's just so inefficient. Anything threat level 2 or above and you have to restock before you can kill it which annoys me.

Has anyone bought sticker sets? Feels a bit silly, but I'm thinking about it. Currently eyeing the Poogie one. Also quite like the classic monsters set.

The only time I see people use stickers is during the end of the quests for the "Good job" ones. Sometimes you can see some fancy ones but I'm on the "poverty" default sticker which I have in a wheel shortcut so that I can use it while carving. :P

Chicken leg hammer only has blue sharpness? Does bludgeoner work with it or does it only activate when it drops to green sharpness?

I found out that I have 55k fuel to burn on the event. I guess I'll play some Tokyo Mirage Sessions on my Switch and put the Steamworks on auto.

I saw a cool red rocket/satellite looking hammer in some Iceborne dev stream a while back... is that part of this new event?

You can auto multiple steamwork mini games while away?

I'm addicted to using the clutch claw flinch to down monsters. It's just soooo satisfying seeing that lovely quad digit damage and then seeing them flail on the floor.

how does the geologist bug work in GL? do you have to kill and carve to make it work or capturing work too?

None of those. it makes you pick two items from each shiny. so to make most of it make sure to bang the monsters into the wall if possible and break their parts for the shiny drops.

I don't think it's a bug. If it was they would have patched it months ago lol.

I try to get used to the lance but every time I get knocked down with my drawn weapon and little health left I go into full panic mode because putting away the weapon and heal takes forever. Nonetheless it is a very interesting weapon with a lot of potential.

Anyone know when the overdrive bonus at the steamworks changes? Has a melding ticket become the bonus during previous events? Sitting on 25k fuel and don't want to blow it willy nilly :')

By the way, automating it on PC is way easier with a keyboard. Not shocking, but I hadn't thought of it before. You just need to hold down the space bar, so really anything with a little weight to it will do the trick.

I've gotten steel and silver melding tickets out of it today.

I played SA before I jumped ship to GS. Very fun weapon, but what did it for me was that I really liked having an emergency block available :')

Every week, but during the event, it resets every day(but gives a gold ticket instead of the usual celestial wyvern print). So you should do one overdrive a day during the event. If you farm for a bit in Guiding Lands you can easily get enough to do it once a day in like 10mins though.

I try to get used to the lance but every time I get knocked down with my drawn weapon and little health left I go into full panic mode because putting away the weapon and heal takes forever. Nonetheless it is a very interesting weapon with a lot of potential.

You have to heal early if you mess up with Lance because of this, sheathe speed is ungodly slow so it's very dangerous, so whenever you get dropped to like 60% health you should look for an opening to heal up instead of waiting until you're at 20%. Augmenting for health regen in endgame makes lance way different(and better), since you can stay on the offensive constantly to heal up chip damage/any random hits. That said even then it can still get hairy when you get poisonned/burned and you have to sheathe while the monster is flaying around. Once you know the fights a bit though it's not too hard to avoid getting hit more than a few times per hunt and rarely be at risk of anything, and once you have Offensive Guard(Iceborne skill) you can do pretty good damage while doing it too. And mobility is surprisingly good once you get used to advance guard movement.

It's overall a great weapon although not great for farming easy content/speedrunning since the damage output is a bit low(still reasonable, most hunts I only take 10-12mins even with Lance and it's a lot safer and smoother than some other weapons).

The silver tickets give a ton of the rare old decorations. I got like 3 handicrafts, 1 attack, a bunch of bow/gun stuff, a free elem, a focus, 2 agitator etc from like 80silvers or so(I had a lot of fuel). If you still need old decos I think it's better to farm GL gathering for coal and spam the steamworks for silver tickets, rather than doing jagras/laviasoth quests. You also get a ton of steel tickets which are mostly crap but give you stuff to meld with(good if you need expert decos though I think I got 8 in that round).

So all this time when using the switch axe I've been switching to the sword most of the time, because of the extra damage it does and of course the amped mode.

But just now I noticed that the axe gets red and the axe icon as well, is there something to this? Or do I just mash away at enemies with Y and B when it's red?

It's an Iceborne addition. If you do wild swing 3 times, then press Triangle/Y(the other attack button not sure on PC), you'll do a cool looking slam attack, and now your axe is charged and get a neat effect on it. Now you do a bit more damage, break parts more easily(similar to partbreaker, not sure what lvl it gives though and it stacks) and have better chance to stagger/trip(basically acts as "fake additional damage" for the purpose of triggering trips and flinches). This makes staying in axe pretty viable it does good damage and you get a bunch of control from all the flinches/downs/breaks and the move itself does good damage. Buff lasts ~45seconds.

The buff only works on axe form btw, no need to buff if you're going to switch to sword, but when sword isn't particularily viable(monster moving around a lot or being super agressive), you can do the axe buff and stay in axe for a while until a good opening.

If you are on Ps4 you can do this to do the steamworks automatically

Anyone knows something similar specifically for macroing a PS4 controller (or call it an Xbox one, through emulation) on the PC version?
I'm sure there's a million of them but I'm looking for the most basic and simple to set, really.
I just want it to macro the shit out of my key combo and waste my 30k of fuel.

On top of what that other guy said, running mind's eye (weapon never bounces off) for Lance can be a big help. As you may have noticed, lance goes through sharpness real fast. A weapon bounce means you can't shield dash or counter, which is really really bad when you're in a monsters face.

That said it's totally something you can work around and do without later on.

I was excited to upgrade the dragon kinsect and I did only to remember that I never used it before because it seems to lose stamina much faster than the other ones and doesn't regenerate it as fast. Am I doing something wrong?
