So I posted a few days ago about struggling with certain monsters and you guys came out strong to give me tips to get past those obstacles and I really appreciate it.

I've now finished the iceborne campaign, loved the focal boss fight, and having even more fun after making some crucial upgrades across the board. Turns out using the defender weapon as well as the guardian armor when going into iceborne made it a lot more difficult then it needed to be.

Absolutely love this game and hope they just keep adding and building onto a fantastic foundation for years to come.

Anyone have any recommendations for the next weapon I should learn after Hammer? I've put about 100 hours into Hammer and dabbled with the other weapons in the training area but can't really decide on one. I know I'm not into the ligher/faster weapons like S&S, Insect Glaive, and Dual blades. I really like the crunchy hits the Hammer gets in on the head, so I'd like something like that but with different moves and stuff.

Switch axe is a great weapon and exactly what you are looking for. Heavy hits like the finishing move of overhead slash or a well placed zero sum discharge will make you happy. You will break a lot of monster parts with axe mode and deal massive amounts of damage with sword mode in amped state when the monster is down.

That's what I currently use as my all around comfy set. I usually peel off some critical eye when I want to gem in various resistances or max partbreaker. It works good. You can really take a beating with Health Boost 3 and Divine Blessing 5. It's fun and my play style is a little more wild with it.

Your post inspired me to try out a Divine Blessing 5 build, so I put together a thing based on my preferences and available jewels. I've run a few hunts with it, including the always frantic Muscle Monkey Madness and it works nicely.

I ended up using the Golden Lunemail since I only had one nice jewel 4 with Protection on it. It's a pretty good chest piece and it also helped my hunter's fashion as I quite like it with the Oolong layered legs.

I managed to squeeze all my favorites in there with the compromise of Critical Boost being level 2 only.

Finally started doing better against Barioth and Tigrex with charge blade. Practiced my guard pointing while staying on the monster and just took a little more time to let the monsters tier themselves out. May not be getting huge speed but only died once on tigrex and once in three times on Barioth.
that's what I like to hear! Keep at it and be patient as you start learning the nuances of the Charge Blade the aforementioned (as with any weapon) will become second nature there are quite a few different ways to skin these monsters with the swiss army arsenal of the CB guard pointing helps speed will come naturally as you get more efficient with positioning, have you also dabbled with the savage axe mode when their downed/tired and AED/SAED to their face for stun damage?

I've used savage axe only really to hit monsters that stay out of my range a lot. I used to use SAED more but now I've only been using it on staggered, exhausted or down monsters.

Golden 2 piece for divine is such good design both in looks and ability wise. Makes me a bit sad that we have other somewhat good skills on gear not being used because we need 3 pieces to get the bonus.

What mods y'all using on Iceborne (PC)? I'm using Clear Hunter ReShade and Item Light Pillars. What are some other essentials that won't break the game?

can someone explain to me this kulve taroth special quest?
is it doable in solo and are his weapon and armor any good for iceborne?

(i'm talking about the mission where he walk in this cave and i have cannons etx. to break his horns.)

nobody is doing that right now so i have to do solo and it doesn't sound like a walk in the park...

Kulve equipment isn't particularly worth it with how quickly it becomes obsolete in Master Rank, and is frankly only worth farming to get the two cosmetic layered armors. There is a chance that she gets upgraded to MR in the next couple of months, but it's really not the thing to suffer by your lonesome if you're inexperienced with the particulars of the siege format.

Having a blast finally playing on PC but damn is the Anti-Aliasing absolutely awful. I finally for the first time in any game installed ReShade and used the smaa to make the game not look like Vaseline.

It's not really worth it. You can quickly craft better equipment once you're progressing in Iceborne. The Kulve weapon reward RNG system is a huge waste of time, especially now that Safi'Jiva is a thing.

That's awesome and, more importantly, you look really good too.

I mixed my Gold Rath stuff with Kulve layered in spots. I'm so shiny. I love it.

thanks guys.

another stupid question, i just used the defender kit to steamroll the vanilla campaign so i never had to grind for weapons.

am i in trouble with iceborne? i explain myself better, do i have to start from the lower tier weapon to get the iceborne equips? or are they ex-novo branch and i can build them without passing through all the old weapons?
(i don't even know what a safi jiva is lol)

You can ignore everything about Safi until you reach MHW's endgame. Your defender weapon will probably be okay for the first few MR monsters, but you'll want to start farming any MR armor or weapons you can get.

A lot of weapons will be craftable with just MR materials, but there's still many that have to be upgraded from LR/HR versions first. You don't have to do that now, since the craftable stuff isn't too hard to find and will do you just fine for a while.

thanks guys.

Defender stuff will get you through 2-star just fine. Barioth, the sabertooth flying wyvern that resides in Hoarfrost and is the 3-star introduction, is generally the point that folks start breaking into either making or upgrading all of their kit to MR, since he has a noticeable damage increase and lethality that you're not used to at that point. Thankfully, early MR equipment is very easy to make and doesn't require much in the way of rare mats, so you can get beefy rather quickly.

With some weapon trees, you're shit out of luck and will just have to upgrade beginner-level stuff, but there are a bunch that will have MR tier stuff available to be forged immediately once you've hunted the proper monster, rather than start from beginning early game weapons.

With armor, there's no worry, you forge everything

So what is the best Deco farming right now on PC? Is it just getting fuel for the steamworks and using the tickets?

Speaking of, are the rare VIP tickets used for anything other than the Layered armor, or can I just dump them all into getting golden tickets for decos?

Lastly, if steamworks is the way to go, how do you farm fuel the easiest?

Clear Hunter with SMAA is definitely the way to go.

I did try Clear Hunter first but I honestly didn't like the way certain colors looked, especially crushed blacks. I just stuck with turning off AA, keeping Volumetric off because I did not like the look it gave.

Basically just using reshade with AdaptiveSharpen, Clarity, LumaSharpen, and SMAA. AdaptiveSharpen is off at the moment but I might play around with it a bit to see if I can get any quality I like.

I'm pretty sure Sealed Feystones-level Jewel 4s are still exclusive to T3 tempered investigations. Not even the gold ticket will get those types of Jewel 4s. Guiding Lands mining deposits will give you a shit ton of dragonore for the steamworks.

So for most of the time I've been playing the game with friends and now I've been taking on these fights on my own. I really notice how long I still take to get a monster to start walking with a limp. I have a feeling something isn't quite right yet with my jewel set up. So my equipment is...

Legiana

Helm a+
Mail b+
Vambraces a+
Coil a+
Greaves a+

Ice attack level 4
Divine blessing level 3
Evade window level 4
Health boost level 3
Ice resistance level 3
Windproof level 2

It's a shame health boost takes up 3 jewels, but I do feel I need it. I can replace the ice resistance, destroyer/medicine jewel 4 and earplug jewel 3 with other decorations that could make a fight a bit shorter I guess. What jewels should I equip here? I'm thinking of things like tenderizer jewel 2 which increases the affinity of attacks that exploit a monster weak spot. Or expert jewel 4 that increases affinity, but I'm still figuring out what affinity exactly is.

Also, I am wondering. When you play as a great sword, switch axe, axe, etc character, the ones that move rather slowly with weapon equipped, do you just go for a few hits and then back away before the monster (in my case just now a MR Anjanath) hits you? I notice I often get greedy and just keep mashing at the enemy, which results in Anjanath bumping into me hard, kicking me or any of his attacks really. I've probably been playing it the wrong way, haha. I especially notice that now, now that I'm soloing stuff.

I wanna play Bow bad but it doesn't feel like I'm doing good damage and the combat flow feels clunky.
Much of the Bow damage relies on a few things... Matching elements to monsters, stamina management and the Bow Charge Jewel. Also, leaning the right combo rotations as well. Some good videos out there on the ones you should use.

Stamina is pretty important to your overall damage, since if you have to stop to recover, you don't do any damage. This can be helped with the correct jewels for Stamina (Constitution) , Dash juice and eating for Black Belt. Also some God bow tutorials on what helps.

Right now the switch axe. I switch between the legiana one and the bone for that raw power.
I would suggest trying to build for damage as opposed to evade/health etc. Also, you want to build towards a monsters weakness if possible.

The Leggy set was great for early bow users due to the extra charge but there are better sets you should be aiming for. If you start to notice fights taking longer and longer, you may need to check your gear and do a little farming to get a better set/weapons.

Does handicraft+ exist?

watch some speedrun videos to see what they are doing that you are not. Don't go with extreme speedrunners with world record times because they often use odd measures for their damage output, but just watch how people vary and pace their attacks. Stamina buffs are your friend.

Nice! As a Switch axe main myself i suppose i can help!

You are already on the right track by looking at boosting expert and tenderizer

Basically your goal will be to upgrade your axes as far as ya can. Get ones with a nice chunk of white sharpness and as much raw and element as you can fit in

Im still playing around with element axes and making them work but I can say poison and blast axes are quite good early on.

Since we dont have shields we kind of have to stay mobile and on the offensive. Axe mode is best for mobility and reachel. Sword mode for dps on downs and staggers/traps/etc.

I have one, but I had to kill a shit ton of tempered T3s to get it.

I don't even use it that much between Razor Sharp Charm, Handicraft Charm, or just not running extra sharpness at all beyond Master's Touch.

I wanna play Bow bad but it doesn't feel like I'm doing good damage and the combat flow feels clunky.

The biggest damage comes from going elemental since each arrow benefits from the full amount. What this means is that you want bow charge skill for an extra charge of full arrows after the initial 3. It's a rare charm but makes a huge difference.

In the mean time, your goals should be making a max charm for each element and one bow for each type to pair with a true crit element set from silver rathalos. Element is king, so raw matters much less that other weapons. For instance rank 10 weapons tend to have a much higher base on top of being able to augment them for more far easier and cheaper than rank 12s from stronger monsters. Maxing crit with some WEX and crit eye along with some defensive skills comes fills out the rest of your skills.

At this point it comes down to play style. On easier monsters you may wish to play more aggressive, getting in close and using the power shot, which fires 5 arrows, in between dashes which can deal an incredible amount of damage but requires stamina management. A more relaxed playstyle would be just using regular normal shots and building charge and unleashing constant fire from a distance. With just 3 levels of constitution, it's easy to never stop firing which in terms of uptime, definitely adds up if your hitting the right parts.

They are part of base Iceborne. Just max out guiding lands regions to unlock the remaining ones. This requires you to do several required quests at certain Master Rank Thresholds all the way to Master rank 100

Alternatively you can just hit Master rank 70 and fight them in their respective event quests which are currently all live during the appreciation fest event
