So I guess this will serve as the PC versions OT as well? Time to sub again. It's been a long hard wait. I must love this game for how much time i endured waiting for the original and now Iceborne. Please Capcom never again.

So looking forward to this.

Is there a bundle available for both base game and Iceborne for PC? I don't own either for PC and wanted to get both at the same time for a discount later.
Sounds like I might need to buy Base now while cheap and wait for Iceborne to go on sale then.

According to Steam the master edition won't be released until Thursday for some reason:

"Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition"—a set that includes both the base game Monster Hunter: World and the expansion Monster Hunter World: Iceborne—will be available for purchase on January 9, 2020 (UTC).

PC soooooooo close, can't wait to play.

I find it funny how people forgot there was already a wait for the main game (which was well worth it in the end), then get crazy again for another wait on this expansion. Also, January is a great month for this to release on PC, can't really think of anything big out this month.

They are rushing the staggered content this time around. Feb is Rajang and March another big update, I assume that is the catch up stuff.
https://www.monsterhunter.com/world-iceborne/pc/us/ they have a small roadmap.

I redownloaded the game today. Havent played it since april. Did they fixed the HDR or is it my new tv? It looks really good now. Also i like how they gave players a starter gear to get ready for the expansion

Iceborne features FAQ (Steamworks, Guiding Lands, etc)

I've added an FAQ on Iceborne-specific information to the OT; console brethren, if I'm missing something let me know:

How do I use the clutch claw?
The clutch claw has a very limited range. Use it when you're close to the monster. If the monster moves or attacks, you will be injured or even killed. Use it when the monster is winding down from an attack or when it isn't moving. You also use stamina while clawed on and will fall off if it depletes. All weapons can use the clutch claw while the weapon is unsheathed, so you can work it into your existing combos and claw on when you see an opening. You'll get better at this as time passes.

There are several parts of a monster you can claw on to. It can be difficult to actually aim when it's moving around so you may grab the wrong part. You can move along the monster with the control stick the same way you do when mounted. Pressing triangle (PS4 controls) will do a slashing attack and dismount. With "heavy" weapons, you will immediately soften the monster's part; with "light" weapons, you need to do this slash attack twice to soften. A softened part takes additional damage similar to a weak spot. It eventually becomes unsoftened after a short time. You can tell if it's taking softened damage because there will be a little square of ticks around the damage number. This attack is very useful for creating temporary weak spots on monsters that have poor hitzone values along large parts of their bodies.

The real fun of the clutch claw is slamming the monster into a wall. Claw onto its head when it is not enraged and press circle (PS4 controls) to make it swing around in a 45 degree angle. You can do this several times to get it to face the way you want. When it's facing the way you want (facing a wall or other obstruction), press R2 to unload your slinger ammo into its head. It will fly forward a good distance. If it hits a wall while it does this, it will take heavy damage and fall over, being immobilized for several seconds. This attack is invaluable for heavy damage and stunning the monster and should be spammed whenever it is unenraged. Often, a monster will become enraged immediately after you do this attack, whether it hit a wall or not. Make it count.

What's this Steamworks thing? Is it just completely RNG?
Outside the gathering hall in Seliana is a contraption called the Steamworks. You put in "fuel" that you earn from quests (this fuel serves no purpose beyond the Steamworks, so feel free to use it all) and then you "press" three buttons in sequence to earn items, meal vouchers, etc. This process is completely random. There is no secret to guessing which button you need to press next (except for the occasion where the cats jump up and show you which to press). You can just hold down the button and let it run. When the bar is fully filled red, you'll hit "overdrive" and receive a bonus reward. Each week, the first time you get an overdrive, you receive a Celestial Wyverian Print that can be exchanged for a rare monster item of your choice (mantles, the MR equivalent of gems).

This Guiding Lands thing is really confusing. Where do I begin and what is my goal?
The Guiding Lands is a new map you unlock at the end of the game. It is divided into four regions that are based on the Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, Coral Highlands, and Rotten Vale (two additional areas based on the Elder's Recess and Hoarfrost Reach were later added in DLC). These regions each have a "level" that grows as you kill or capture monsters, break their parts, collect their tracks, and do other assorted activities in that region. When a region levels up, stronger monsters appear. At levels 1-3, you fight monsters of increasing strength; at levels 4-5, tempered monsters from the first three levels will begin appearing; at level 5, elder dragons will appear; at level 6, a unique "apex" monster that rules each region; and at level 7, tempered elder dragons. The Guiding Lands is considered an expedition, and therefore there is no set objective to complete. You can hunt monsters endlessly for hours if you so choose. You can die an unlimited number of times without failing or losing anything, but if you die you will receive fewer rewards after killing the monster. Note that you can exploit the Fortify skill to receive a free boost to your attack and defense the first two times you die.

Three monsters can appear in the Guiding Lands at any time, and they are completely random. After you kill or capture a monster you will receive a random "lure" for a specific monster. You can then talk to the Handler at camp to use a lure to make a specific monster you want appear. When you fight monsters in the Guiding Lands, you will notice they drop items the way a pinata drops candy. These items they drop everywhere are unique to the Guiding Lands. Every monster has a unique Guiding Lands material that it drops here while it is being fought, and the tempered versions also have a unique material. For example, a Rathalos fought in the Guiding Lands will drop "King's Scale," while a tempered Rathalos will drop "Tempered Red Scale." These Guiding Lands materials are used by certain weapons for their highest upgrades, as well as for the new augmenting system (see below). Once you've fought a monster in the Guiding Lands, you can also meld for its parts at the Elder Melder. Monsters also drop assorted bones and "Spiritvein Gems" that are used for augmenting weapons. As a quick tip...for some reason, equipping a single point of the Geologist skill will allow you to pick up shiny objects twice instead of once. This was thought to be a glitch but for some reason has never been patched on consoles and will presumably still work on PC.

When you level up a region, eventually other regions may start to decrease in level. It is not possible to have every region at level 7 at the same time, for example.

What is the new augmenting system?
Like the base game, fully-upgraded weapons can be augmented, but the system is MUCH friendlier than the old way of having to grind for super-rare things from tempered monsters. Every weapon starts out with three "augment slots." You can fill these three slots with an attack boost, defense boost, affinity boost, elemental/status damage boost, or an extra decoration slot, and each of these things takes up between one and three augment slots. When you've filled all three slots, you can choose the "Extra Slots" option to purchase more upgrade slots. Note that like the base game, Rarity 10 weapons have the most available augment slots, Rarity 11 weapons have fewer, and Rarity 12 weapons have the fewest. The materials used for augmenting are entirely obtained from monsters in the Guiding Lands.

However...there's another twist to all this. Weapons that do not have unique appearances can be augmented even further with a system called custom augments. Custom augments add a little boost to attack, defense, affinity, or elemental/status damage and also change the weapon's appearance. You can stack up to five of these custom augments (later bumped to seven following DLC updates).

Yes it seems like some stun procs it

You might be right. Earlier in the hunt I managed to knock Safi out of a Supernova with my Stickies

you can use a flash pod to make him fall and avoid the second sapphire of the emperor. Paralysis and sleep can also stop the attack.

you can see that on this video. they just do it to save time tho.

Ah good to know, it was the first time it's happened to my friends and I in the vid so we all just freaked out

Time off MHW is hard. Jumped back in for Iceborne which was a bit LttP. Had to relearn Bow again. Loving the new stuff. Steamworks was also great for actually getting some of those midrange jewels. I started to actually make up useful sets. Still not found the Bow Charge jewel.. Grr.

Also, hit a brick wall with Barioth, so I ended up going back to LR/HR to finish off some of the missing monsters I did not farm, like Nergy etc. So much easier haha.

I will love crossplay but with PS4 having exclusive content I don't see that happening. Unless Crossplay is limited to PC and Xbox.

Yep, a few times, including yesterday. The strat in the vid works unless you've already knocked him down with flash, sleep, and para and have nothing left like we did.
I'm curious to know what triggers that second immediate attack. Someone at capcom already explained that is not a bug but didn't clarify why it happens. Some people think it happens when nobody has Safi attention for a long time. It has never happened to me in my 20+ hunts so I have no idea if thats the case.

Anyone got any tips for behemoth?

I do want that layered armor set.

Personally I'm just using Leon and have speed eating maxes and free meal with healing powder and demon/hard shell powder for support

Learn to jump the meteors and hopefully maintain hate by hitting the head once in awhile

With fully maxxed master rank gear or Gold Rathian Divine Blessing set bonus you should be able to brute force it down but unfortunately the extreme version doesnt have solo player scaling if I remember correctly (it was designed as a team fight) so hopefully your master rank gear makes up for the damage discrepancy.

If you have it unlocked eat for felyne safeguard or the other one that gives you an extra cart. Good Luck!

There was previously a Discord connected to the original MHW OT but is no longer "officially" associated with ResetERA. That Discord's administration has asked that we not publicly post invite links here as there have apparently been some trolling situations in the past. I'm working to see what we can do about getting invites for interested people.

I started off building towards a KO and Part Break build for my Bow. Will attempt him again since he is stopping my progress through Iceborne.

Yup Barioth was my biggest hurdle thru Iceborne as well. It's when I actually had to upgrade from HR to MR gear. Up to him I was sort of feeling myself with my AT HR gear from base game.

Honestly I still struggle with both Barioth and Tigrex, and to a lesser extent Nargacuga. All three of the second generation pseudowyverns are frustrating fights, constantly darting back and forth, spamming the same three attacks over and over, and having horribly janky hitboxes.

Yeah having all three of those monsters in the same tier of the story (basically back to back to back) was honestly the low point in the campaign for me. I actually like each of those monsters individually, but having to fight them to close to each other one after the other made my eyes start to glaze over.

I just crafted these new dual blades and they do 300 poison, which is alright for Barioth. However, it's a locked element. All my armor pieces that have free element are weak af. What other options do I have of freeing the element while keeping a armor on that has good defense?

Release Jewels, which were rare (in the base game) but combo jewels that have Free Element and another skill are more common in Iceborne.

You may have some difficulty getting a good build pre-endgame.

I still get snagged regularly by tigrex but just recently fought Brute Tigrex and.... hes easier but more fun

I think it has something to do with the fact that he doesnt constantly throw out back to back AOEs and large hitboxes

Normal Tigrex is probably easier to roll through with Evade window I guess?

Narga is the easiest of the three. Just get right up in his face at all times. His close range attacks, even if they land, do shit damage. You do run the risk of taking a tail slam though

Barioth is the worst but only until you break something. Once he loses the claws and the tail he get significantly easier

I'm in Seliana at the elder melder. I think I need to choose meld decorations, right? I don't see the one you're talking about there.

They are a higher tier, so I don't think you can meld them until later. Currently, it seems to be the Steamworks is the best way to get loads of jewels but you still need higher HR/MR stuff to get them.

I clocked about 35 hours on PS4 after launch, and then fell away until now. I booted it up last weekend for a bit, and now I have the bug again... but I forgot literally everything.

Since Iceborne is about to launch on PC, I bought MHW for Steam since it was $19 on cdkeys. I figured starting over will be good for me so I can relearn everything, and the new beginner's weapons that do a ton of dmg should help me speed back through the main campaign.

Hopefully the PC player-base is pretty active. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake by starting over on PC. I guess if I end up really regretting it I can just buy Iceborne on PS4.

Rushed the main story and a bit of extra on PS4 on launch week and now the main course is starting to be on sight.

Very excited to start this thing properly. Newcomers, you're in for a treat.

Is there a way to do turns rooms? I loved jumping in with strangers and taking turns posting random quests in MHGU. Does that happen here? I search for rooms but the descriptions are lacking.

Otherwise I'm loving getting back into this. Maining hunting horn for the first time, what a great weapon.
