Is the diablos bow line a good tree to go down? Quite a lot of recommendations for the cera coilbender.
You either get the cera coilbender and do raw/power/para/piercing shot builds, or a variety of elemental bows (I think vaal, anja, kobi, legiana). A lot comes down to your decorations. I don't have any good bow decorations, so I went with a coilbender with critical draw to take advantage of dragon pierce. I think the elemental builds are better overall because they deal more consistent damage, but they take a bit longer to set up, at least for me.

I've been rocking Odogaron armor since forever, I'm actually not sure if I should change it for an Elder Dragon one or if it doesn't make that much of a difference Defense wise. Its skills and its looks are too good.

Also, I just got the Rocksteady Mantle. I'm slowly advancing to the endgame content but I really hate how randomized a big part of it seems. I mean, it's still fun to hunt monsters aimlessly but making the hunter stronger is pretty much the only thing you do. And I'm not even sure if there will be a G Rank any time soon.

This looks good! Thanks! If I ever see refresh, physique, or mighty bow jewel, I'm making the build. I'm a fan of status infliction.
The refresh and physique jewels are just for keeping stamina up and not using it as much. The mighty bow adds another tier 3 charge shot so it's 1-2-3-3 instead of 1-2-3-1. The build is still viable without those status inflictions are just as strong without just make sure you use some dash juice or eat a wiggly ichi, if playing solo the hunting horn palico also can boost your stamina use.

Just cleared a couple of "milestone" trophies in the game. 500 monsters hunted (phew, that's a lot; 1, 2, 3, 4... 500) and 50 of those pesky guild cards that people are so stingy with. I've practically been handing mine out in every hunt lately to encourage people to share.

I had a Val Hazak run a few days ago and got one Warrior Streamstone and one Hero Streamstone for my main weapon, SnS. I mean what are the odds lol

I just hit 500 myself! And speaking of milestones, I just discovered that only Gold crowns count towards their respective trophies. So sad. G-rank can't come soon enough. I need more content to keep me glued to the screen for hours on end!

Can I just rage about the stupid, clunky quick item selection in this game? Wtf? The dumb item wheel has so many useless things in it that cycling through during combat is so impractical and annoying. There doesn't seem to be a way to reduce the number of slots on it either. Then there's the radial menu which is so fiddly that half the time I end up getting the wrong thing or nothing at all. God forbid you used it to access the comms features and forgot to switch it back. So many times I have died trying to do a simple thing like put up the health booster.

Am I missing an actually quick and efficient way to access a small selection of items in battle or is this it?

I did HR Kirin before Tempered. I try to complete every side quest before advancing the story.
You could. The two Kirin quests are tied to the biological research team. I'm not sure exactly which conditions have to be met to unlock the HR one, but I unlocked it way before I got to HR49 (though after the final boss). The quest was given by the impatient biologist (the short, old wyverian at the table in Astera, near the tree).
Huh. How? The impatient biologist gave me the HR Kirin quest literally after I had just cleared Tempered Kirin. The quest / exclamation point wasn't there before, I'm 100% sure, because I routinely check my map in Astera for any ! icons. I also always picked up Kirin tracks in the Coral Highlands during other hunts or expeditions, I must have picked up half a dozen tracks/furs, but the bar never even filled up.

I wouldn't mind, but I got nearly destroyed earlier by nerg. Since I got his crowns, Istopped killing him ... It was like I forgot how to avoid his shenanigans... but on the other hand, I've eaten some teostranovas too today ...

It's a 30 min quest so I will be taking it slow as well, no need to rush through them. I'll be using Moxie food too so I'm not too worried

I'm not sure what triggers it either. Maybe has something to do with gathering a specific number of HR Kirin tracks or something? I also never fought/saw him in low rank.

Everytime I grabbed his stuff in HR, the bar would never fill up or show progress, and then I randomly had the option quest show up a couple HRs before I unlocked the Tempered Kirin quest (I think I got it around 47?)

Kinda jelly, I want that quest. Near max slots, increased crown chances (from my experience 1 faint quests give good gold), Nergi for track farming... I think he's the monster I got the least tempered investigations of so far. A whole two iirc :o

The bar display is bugged - it fills up but doesn't show visually, but if you pick up enough stuff you can get the quest before tempered Kirin

Huh, I see. That's weird. I picked up tons of those tracks too, but I figured the bar didn't fill up because I needed to do something else to "unlock" the quest. I guess by coincidence, fighting the tempered one made me pick up the remaining tracks that I needed to unlock the HR quest... :S

Oh, that makes more sense, haha. I just assumed I couldn't get tracking progress on him since I never investigated him in low rank.

The trigger being the bar/tracks makes sense. I farmed Legiana at one point around HR29. I must have picked up 5 tracks each hunt, and I hunted Legiana at least 10 times in a row. So that's a lot of tracks.

Now that I think about it, I thought it was odd the quest unlocked out of seemingly nowhere.

Okay, I put about 20 hours into this on my PS4 Pro about a month or so ago, and then sold the game off toward an X.

With GameStop's deal this week, at $40 (plus I have $20 worth of reward certificates from my X purchase), I was thinking about picking it up again for Xbox this time.

Anything I should know about the X version that's different than it was on Pro? It also helps that I don't pay for PS+ anymore, but have XBL. That's part of the decision.

The way regular hunting quests unlock in this game need some work, I think. It's needlessly obtuse. And when you reach high rank, unless you pair up with players who do have the monster hunt unlocked, you just have to fuck around in an expedition (or another monster hunt) and try to accidentally encounter that monster.

For example, when you reach high rank, you get a delivery request for Jyura parts (to upgrade something in the town, I forgot what -- I also needed parts to upgrade my water lance too anyway). But the HR hunt for Jyura isn't available. So the only way to get those parts is to either pair up with a player who does have that hunt, or, if solo'ing, go on an expedition in the Wildspire Waste and hope to accidentally meet Jyura. And the monster doesn't always immediately spawn. When I tried to unlock HR Jyura, I went on that expedition, but the 3 monsters spawned in the Wildspire Waste were Barroth, Rathian and Kulu-Ya-Ku. I had to either kill one of those, or wait until one "left the locale", for Jyura to finally spawn, which, upon encountering it, finally unlocked the hunting quest (got the "a new optional quest is available" upon returning). I suppose I could have also hunted HR Barroth and hoped for Jyura to show up in a turf war or something, but yeah.

Unless I'm missing something, because I couldn't find a way to unlock the hunts otherwise. Why not just give the hunts immediately available at the quest counter? So weird.

Go to your Items from the Start menu, then press Y/Triangle, which will let you rearrange them with X. I put healing items just to the right of the "gap" and special items to the left, with non-combat things like the whetstone, net, etc in the middle. That way you know whether to go right or left for something and it's only a few presses.

Random q but is anyone still playing on Xbox? I posted some tempered elder investigations earlier and they didn't fill up... Used to fill up almost before the flare had left the gun. Don't know if it's my network or just a low player base on a Sunday afternoon.

Man that final optional quest is intense: Legiana, Odagaron, Diablos and Rathalos back to back within 25 min in the arena. Got my Handicraft charm fully upgraded with the voucher it gives you too. Now we wait for Pickle'Jho!

I've played that successfully a few times in multiplayer, joining via SOS. It's a fun mission. I haven't unlocked it myself yet though. What are the requirements?

As far as I know, only the one who made the squad can send invites :l

I didn't realize you joined while I was trying to figure out how to send you an invite to the session lol

thx for hosting the quest, it was fun, although ... one warrior's for hammer and a mushroomancer jewel was the best out of it^^

just need a small kushala to complete the elder crowns, hopefully the rest of the monsters get a multi monster event

I got small kushala from a 2 gold 2 silver investigation ... I need kirin though, and small teo ... -.- (and many other monsters).

Oh that sucks. I didn't get any good decos but I got a haul of warrior stones. 2 axe, 2 sword, 2 hammer and 1 blade I think.
I only played the last couple, but I got 3 warrior stones, a hero stone, an artillery jewel, and critical eye jewel. Crazy.

I'm so fucking jelly of that artillery jewel right now. That and the capacity jewel can turn all my CB builds upside down.

Grats :D and thanks for the hunts, it was really fun!

Anybody need help with anything on PS4? I've got a 2 person tempered Diablos investigation with 4 rewards I've been soloing but wouldn't mind some company!

PSN = ArcticGroove

I'm surprised you're having issues finding people to join you. Half the tempered investigations I tried to join failed because they filled up in seconds. And the ones I did manage to get into were full moments after I got in.

There isn't another way to unlock it? I guess doing all the optional missions isn't that bad, but I always wonder why I should do them since they offer fewer rewards than investigations.

I also dislike Arena fights in general, but I guess I have no other choice.
Yeah, that's the only way to unlock White Winds, though if you're just after Research Commission Tickets you can also get them from the HR100 quest if you have it.

Once I get the long sword I'm never touching that shit again

The Arena has its history in the series and there are a lot of people who have fun doing that all day ... I don't do Arena that mich, but nailing that A rank with these goofy loadouts and weapons I am not used to is somehow rewarding.
It is only frustrating when solo, so filter search for arena lobbies or ask here ;)

Forgot to kill Vaal Hazek 4 times last week to get that golden voucher. Oh well, this weeks events look even easier to take on. I will be on later on today once I finish a bit more spring cleaning around the house to take out the weekly quests. I'll put a message up here when I do, I'm in the ERA squad, or one of them at least.

Fighting monsters with bad weapons and bad armor sets and bad item loadouts aren't fun to me, but it doesn't surprise me fans of old monster Hunter games would enjoy something tedious

The arena is basically a set of challenge missions or the like in any other game. They're met to be tougher and more restrictive than the normal game and also demand you get better at weapons and load outs then you might not normally use.

I use all the weapons. Problem is the ones they give you suck. I especially despise locking some of the best weapons behind doing these awful quests. Theyre not challenging, they go past that into irritating
