So I'm catching up with the game, finished Zorah's storyline a couple of days ago and finally did my first online hunts ever.

I'm curious, the way you engage in online is throught joining posted quests? most of the time there are only a few and they're mostly too underleveled or overleveled (can't join them), but it's fun and I join in between my own quests.

I guess this is why people complained about the online aspect of the game, I was expecting something more "modern" in which you select what you wanna do and the game looks it for you but so far it seems you're locked on a 16 people server or something.

Answering/Using SOS is pretty much the primary method of playing with randoms. You can also set several filter (including Monster).

I tried twice on different times the SOS mechanic but I got no results inmediately both times. So far joining quests and some people joining mines from time to time seems to work a bit.

I'll try SOS again, I probably wasn't lucky enough. My parameters were as default as they can be, tried low and high rank and got nothing.

Status update 1: If you choose purple missions you get tons of reeeally high rank players joining

Status update 2: Purple Beetle Juice too strong, if I try attacking him I'm already dead.

I guess I could just collect stuff while others hunt him (only did this quest twice, which ended up with me carting faster than you can say Beetle Juice haha)

But purple Odogaron goes down every time. :)

Status update 3: I kinda want my Iron Gospel back, I liked it a lot, I somehow could pull off the jump attack with that regularly (could be placebo lol)

I might just have to buy it again, downgrading Nergal Reaver would be stupid probably?

There is little reason for any high level player to do anything except purple or orange missions. The only reason would be if they are trying to quickly grind out multiplayer missions for the achievement/trophy. I've been hopping into entry level player's missions destroying their stuff just for that reasons b/c I don't enjoy multiplayer otherwise.

Hey Era, I'm taking on Optional Quests and I've noticed that my lvl 4 complete quest mark looks light blue while all the others looks red. Why is that? Is there something I haven't donde properly?

Blue means that you're still have undiscovered quest to do in this level. Most of them are Arena Quests. I recommend you to try to capture every monster at least once to unlock them. Red means that you did every quest in that level.

Actually I think affinity was higher and that makes it easier to pull off?

Iron Gospel II was 11% Nergal Reaver was 0%

There's definitely a diff in "handling".
Affinity only affects crit.

There really isn't any difference in handling, although I can understand how it might feel that way given how different weapons look!

The closest thing is that some weapons have some heterogeneity between different 'subtypes'—there are different shell types for Gunlances, different ammo types for Bows and Bowguns, different songs for Hunting Horns. Other than that kind of stuff, all weapons within a given type are totally identical in terms of things like movesets and attack speed. For stuff like Long Swords, there's zero difference between a Bone Shotel I and a Nergal Reaver.

Just for fun I made (or rather tried to make) a pure fashion build...

Turned out pretty well imo...

And as a result she doesn't get to eat...

Oh, I see. Yeah then that was just my imagination, I didn't have any special skills either, just attack and "evading"...

Actually I tried a mostly Vaal build too, that didn't turn out so well, it actually doesn't stop the tick damage in the valley, you need "efflufial expert" for that apparently - but I bet there are different, better options than hornetaur, well at least I hope so...

But turns out, as I expected, I really like the Peak Performance skill - not that I mastered it already (lol) but it fits into my playstyle... While it's easy to get hit as a LS player, a real ninja should be able to avoid or mitigate most, I've watched this, the good players barely get hit, and even then you can be healed again real quick. Only in the Vale this skill is probably rather useless.

What I mean, this makes me play less careless which is a good thing and I was already the rather cautious type so it really fits. Well that's my first impression.

Yeah, as I said before, I think it's very good for great players, especially for weapons like the Long Sword. For other players it's strictly worse than a lot of other skills—if you're basically ever not at full health, you'd be getting better value from other skills. But nothing in this game is so hard as to need minmaxing, and what really matters is having fun!

for Vale stuff, the tick damage is definitely annoying but I found trying to slot effluvial expert in to be way more of a pain than it was worth. especially once I got the health recovery augment for my weapons, which totally overrode the effect of miasma

In my experience people won't usually join until you're either real close to your target monster, it discovered you or you attack it - that's not always 100% like that but 80%...

Knowing this, I immediately fire my SOS as soon I'm in the camp and then go gathering stuffs I may or may not need, the more the merrier!

Then it really doesn't take longer than 30 seconds until people join when I arrived at the monster, I can also go right to the monster though, people will join right away.

You can try this with Nirgigante, as long he doesn't see you normally no one joins, and I like to sneak around him to steal his splintered things, lol.

I'm not sure that joining mechanic is intended or not but it work wonderfully imo.

Oh and tip: if there's a lot of low levels joining or otherwise kamikaze players, save your items for next run! 😅

I'm a low level lol, just got my first HG quests a while ago and have been doing sidequests and selected hunts to upgrade my gear, also I've tried multiplayer for the first time through posted quests is just that there aren't many in each session, if I post a quest sometime people come.

I tried SOS through the board (I mean finding SOS by other people), set things on default, set for low and high rank, nothing but I just tried tree or four times at most.

Last night I played just about an hour and had to do some stuff that I preferred do it alone but in one specific hunt I shot and SOS as soon as the quest started and nobody came at any point.

Maybe is because I'm barely an HG player? I think I'm level 12.

I'll try in depth again because I'm sure it works, I just had bad luck or something.

Lol, yep! First I didn't want to play online but then it dawned to me hunting these monsters alone would be a lot of work and take forever! And most people who joined were great and I learned lot of stuff (as in combat tactics)

No, lol, I just meant when you see others dragging you down, don't waste your stuff on them, if they're too stingy to use helper items, why should you. Doesn't necessarily have to be low levels but usually it *is* low levels lol.

I had lvl 200+ guys joining me right away and send guild cards and stuff, it's not that they don't want to help noobs, just give it some time, do what I said and fire sos immediately - also make an open room no pw or anything, and then just approach the monster *slowly* would really surprised me if that doesn't work, it does for me! Don't wait at the camp, lol! 😁

Thx for info!

I'm still not sure how to help others, I barely help myself with healing and medicines lol

I mostly brute force and dodge attacks, I like to lure monsters into enviromental traps and use sling shots on them (I don't worry much which ammunition I have tho). It's easy enough for me to not worry more than that and so far the sessions I've played so far nobody had much trouble.
I save my own traps to capture.

Maybe I should use cloud items that boost stats to help? I don't use those myself.

I trust that the game will get harder the further in I get, but I'm having fun just the way it is right now.

Well it does get tougher, at some point I had to start using those items basically for myself mostly but I noticed it help others too . And others doing that is definitely what helped me beat the tougher monsters. I just started playing too, 3 weeks ago, level 38, so that's just my experience so far, some people don't help you and don't help themselves, they just drag you down, thankfully that's really not many though.

I definitely learned how to not die in these high rank missions, it really something I like to avoid for obvious reasons lol.

Man, I get it now with the helm slasher combo or whatever it's called, I'm doing it actually right most of the time but I'm not hitting anything usually, sometimes team mates... lol. BUT, it's so awesome when it actually works -- these elder dragons are hard to hit, I mean they're so big, you can basically just go for the feet. Anyways just did it on Xeno, point is, it's really pretty hard, I've seen people pull it off consistently, certainly nice.

Man, Rapid-fire Normal 2 LBG is fun. I get that the DPS isn't on the level of any decent HBG, but dancing around monsters while constantly hitting their head feels great.

Last night I played just about an hour and had to do some stuff that I preferred do it alone but in one specific hunt I shot and SOS as soon as the quest started and nobody came at any point.

Probably. The games been out long enough that a lot of the people still playing are the people well into the endgame grind. And even if they aren't in there they're probably still focusing on Investigations or their own Assigned quests.

That's the problem with using SOS for the assigned quests. Those are the worst quests to farm parts in, so the only people joining are people that just want to help out or they don't know any better.

It sounds exciting, I can't wait to get there but at the same time I'm having fun slowly leaving regular monster behind, crafting new gear and discovering multiplayer.

So far I've only beaten Kirin on my own and it's been challenging enough. Now I'm just dealing with high rank quest of old monsters and assingments.

Can I stack jewels like 2 Crisis, or 2 attack, etc?

Also the charms *only* work if you have the corresponding skill equipped, right?

Because looks like I was wearing that defense charm for nothing the whole time, not sure lol.
The rule of thumb is, if you get the skill points, you have the skill at the equivalent level. It doesn't matter whether those points come from equipment, charms or jewels - everything contributes individually.

A good example:

  • This guy's Weakness Exploit, Horn Maestro and Health Boost skills are entirely from jewels.
  • The level 7 Critical Eye comes from his equipment.
  • He has Handicraft level 5 from a combination of the Handicraft Charm III (3 skill points), plus two jewels (1 point each).
  • Tool Specialist and Peak Performance both come from a combination of equipment and jewels.
  • He also has Master's Touch from equipping three Teostra pieces.

If only my hunter wouldn't be notoriously broke... She spends too much on clothes!

Also wtf is the point of those tights, they could just as well not be there lol

Also that Lunastra (?) fight is something else... I only tried it once yet, but not sure how I'm supposed to kill it, I got the fire mantle now, but yeah not sure that'll be enough, ugh.

Fireproof mantel helps a lot, and if you are ever caught in the explosion without it you can quickly eat Astera jerky to recover the red health. Also if you want you can trigger the explosion early with a flash pod when she has fire built up around her.

It's not too bad of a fight once you learn how to play around her tools, it becomes a lot like fighting Teostra.

I don't think it's any harder than the other elder dragons but as usual it's just about learning the mechanics. I remember thinking it was really tough but then the fight clicks and it's trivial to solo.

SOS mechanic is only good due to how bad and limited the matchmaking is to start a quest together.

Limiting it to the 15 at most players in your session is such a huge mistake. Really hoping Iceborne fixes it.

What? Its 16 players total and it used to be 4

And I only used session searches to hunt Kulve Taroth but if I wanted a specific monster you would essentially do the exact same thing you did in previous games though you had to be mindful of the room population

Though SOS works just as well

There's at most 15 other people in your session.

You should be able to host a hunt like you currently can except anybody from any session can find it via search. Or you search them. Then you launch the hunt. SOS does this but only for Hunts already started so you're always missing starts of fights.

Not if you join me, I always wait 10 - 15 minutes before I start a fight, or sometimes even before I'm even finding the monster... Especially funny when there's a 15 minutes time limit lol.

This is the kind of shit that made me create a male hunter. This right there. Thanks Capcom, I'd love to play as my gender but you don't respect it so
That's not the real armor. It is probably modded on PC. I rock Vaal Hazak often because I like its passive healing and while it's definitely edgelordy, its torso doesn't show that much skin.
See https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Vaal+Hazak+Beta+Armor+Set for the actual armor.
Even the torso here clearly shows there's no exposed belly. https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Vaal+Hazak+Mail+Beta

Yeah, well, that is in fact the original armor just some parts (layers) removed, so Morrigan has a point, although you really don't see this in an unmodded game, well I didn't really except those Vaal tights, those are really apparently skimpy.

Btw that Xeno - Vaal - Bones mix I posted earlier is surprisingly good, really strong against fire, probably weak against ice.

The whole armor / jewel / augmentation stuff seems really in depth and well thought out, I don't entirely understand it yet but I think I'm getting there, augmentations unlock at level 50 apparently, shouldn't be so far off, level 42 currently. :o

What is Capcoms stand on Mods for the PC Version? I would love to install some Quality of Life Mods, but I am afraid of a ban.

Where is a great place for mods, I tried Nexusmods but there are only a few there.

I wish I had more time to play, just finished the Rotten Vale and built a complete Ondogaron Armor. He went down in under 10 minutes and that was with exploring and finding his trail.

This is my old hunter on PS4, are the two sets still viable?

You won't get banned for stuff like that. The only things they cracked down on are PC mods that allowed you to access event quests at any time instead of following their dumb schedule. Even then, they only DMCA'd the mod so it can't be listed on Nexus Mods. People still circulate the mods on discord servers and such. They haven't banned any accounts for using them either.

Technically augmentation itself doesn't unlock when you hit HR50. It unlocks when you get the first augmentation materials, which can only be gotten from HR50+ quests.

Just tempering your expectations. :D
