actually, these are costumes that will be coming at some point
costume updates are nice, but I need more incentive to get back into the game. like new levels and shit

There should be more costumes that are just old power ups. Like Fire, Hammer, Frog, etc. Surprised there weren't any to begin with.
The article doesn't make mention of the pixel Mario behind the Santa outfit - are we expecting it to be a costume too, or is it just some oddity with the data mining?

I agree, it seems weird to not have various power-up suits and even colour palettes. Fire Mario is an iconic look that is notably absent. Especially given they really went into the vault for some of those costumes.
I think he'll probably throw the axe. Throwing his head seems a little barbaric for a Mario game.

I'm assuming maybe the 8-Bit Mario Amiibo unlocks the Santa costume (alongside the outfit it already unlocks)?

You're probably right but having undead Mario with an axe stuck in his head is already pretty out there for a squeaky clean Mario game.
8-Bit Mario is gonna be mine. And judging by the images, I guess it'll come out alongside the Santa Mario costume.
Not in Odyssey at least, he's been given various costumes that show his hands (and feet for that matter), most notably his underwear costume.
I'm not sure if he has dropped his gloves in games before this one though.
What game is the racing outfit supposed to be a reference to? I'd thought it was a reference to Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally, but it has a bunch of MK8 sponsorship logos on said outfit.
So has there been a recent update or something? Or new costumes to unlock? Last I checked was the Satellaview costume I think?

Looks like an original outfit based around the sponsorship logos strewn about MK8.
There was an update that added the Green Rabbit Broodal costume last week.
I'd love more dresses for Mario. Give him Peach's, Rosalina's and Daisy's dresses and Pauline's outfit.
