Does anybody have Oxford heated grips installed on their bike? I just installed a pair on my Versys and they are great for the most part, but they seem to fluctuate in power. Ill be riding and there will be a noticeable drop off in heat on one of the grips but it will come back a minute later and it just seems to kinda keep doing this the whole ride. Ive mostly been riding in stop and go traffic around town so maybe that has something to do with it?
Hmm, have you checked a voltmeter to see how much voltage the bike produces at idle speed and if it's enough to keep the battery happy? Might be a case of straining the battery while in those in between moments when you're stopped.
Agreed with Ocho on his comment check voltage. My 09 Versys had drain issues also eventually changed the stator. I followed this guy back in the days his blog and the links inside break it down a bit further, I hope it helps.

I've heard him say some suspect shit on the subject of Brexit once. I had managed to forget about it, but I knew it was only a matter of time.
There's always the option of separating the man from his art, but there's some overlap there in this case.
My opinion of him went pretty south when I heard some of his views on Brexit. I guess this confirms he's a nob.
Hmm well, I spoke with Oxford. They are sending me a replacement controller at no charge. The bike is a little over a year and a half old, I hope the stator isnt bad.
Any S1000rr owners on here? Thinking of changing up from my 04 600 Gixxer to one sometime next year. I figure I've got one more sports bike in me before I feel too old for one.

I've never owned one, but I had the chance to ride an S1000RR back when it was first launched. Even that gen1 bike was fucking incredible. Fairly comfortable for a sports bike as well.
CMX500A is nearly back together, these electrics and handles were a slog to repair myself and the new tank won't be in until early January. Bar is 1 degree out now so it's not noticable, though if I go down again and the bar flexes even slightly, the tank is in danger of a scuff or dent again. The right hand control cluster comes within 1-2mm on full lock but other than reversing my raisers to push the bar away (which feels uncomfortable), I have no other option.
Reraised and set the bar, repaired the pedals and I'm touching up the exhaust and front guard tomorrow. I expect to be completely done with the repairs by mid January.
I'll keep you guys informed and post a pic of the bike once it's all together again.

Now to settle in and wait for the freezing cold weather to start in the UK, as I'm sure it will in a few weeks. I'm still deciding whether to bother getting the Monster serviced, or whether I just renew the MOT and start about looking for something new. Politics will probably make that decision for me in the next few weeks, which is actually a mixed blessing given how indecisive I am.

If you're already considering getting something new, spending money on service is money down the drain. And I've heard you mention it enough times now that I consider it something of an inevitability.

Little update on the S1. We got it running at least:
That meant we could start tearing it down for a complete overhaul of all the dried out rubber bits and paper gaskets:
Oh and this was what was causing it to run so poorly, along with a clogged carb:
Next step is ordering a whole bunch of new stuff (gaskets, stronger oil pump drive gear, new cylinders + pistons) and dropping off the front forks at the suspension specialist for a service.

Has a few spots here and there, but on the whole it's pretty clean, yeah.
Now that it's disassembled, the dirty parts of the bike will be much easier to get to. Should come out looking pretty good on the other side of this.
I manage a bunch of cloud based IT services, we have a lot of EU customers so depends how things work out. There has been talk of it all going to Germany for legal reasons but I don't think anyone really wants to make any decisions until it's too late
So... just move here :D English and German are very similar.

They may have a bit of a stuffy image, but the one time I took out that 1150 to tear some backroads, it did not disappoint. Not at all.
Been looking a lot at the new R1250RS Sport. I have only a year or so left before I need to think about starting a family, so I think the next bike I buy will need to last me at least a decade, and it really ticks 99% of the boxes for me.
Hopefully I won't be sick again when the London bike show rolls around in February, and I'll go take a look.

If I needed to consolidate down to one bike it feels like that might be the one I land on. Only thing that doesn't excite me is the exhaust look.
Yeah, it's not "bad" but its fairly pedestrian. The 1250 does kill off my biggest bugbear of the 1200 though, which was the old-fashioned black and white display. Now you can even link your phone to it via bluetooth!

The 1200 made somewhere over 100 horsepower... 'enough' was the key word. Without the dynamic pro engine mode (which they charge extra for if you dont buy the sport), it felt a little gutless.
Certainly more peppy than the 1150 though. I'm hoping the 1250 is as big a leap again
Still a long wait until spring, but while I'm waiting I decided to jump on a good deal I saw for proper racing boots. Bought these for only 140eur (original price was around 350-400eur and most shops seem to sell them around 270eur now):

Very nice. TCX boots are top notch in my book. They fit my feet so well and are extremely comfortable.
Finally dropped my Versys. I blame an uneven surface, winter gear (inhibiting my movement), and my dumb self.
I was dismounting, couldn't do the complete dismount, bike inched forward in slow motion and I saw the side stand go back up while I had a leg still on top of the bike. I tried my best but still did a gentle drop. Not a big deal now that I've been doing some dirt and expecting to drop my bike all the time.
Gotta love crash bars and hard cases, don't mind the scratches on those.
I'm doing an adventure training next month, done by this fellow in OK who's coming to Houston. Been wanting to do some proper training for dirt, might even attempt the CO BDR this summer.

Damn that's a shame but yeah, would never run a non-sport bike without crash bars after my drop. They save so much of the bike.
Took my bike out today to the mechanic to replace the tank and he saw that the handlebar is partially bent, which I felt while riding. Ordered a new one that's raised instead of a drag style, should provide better tank clearance and a more neutral seating position. Resprayed the exhaust and side plates and they look great, so once the new handlebars arrive next week I'll upload pics. Looking more like an Iron than a Honda these days 😅
I had a bit of a moment with the Ulysses myself a few weeks ago. It was trying to walk itself off the side stand because of the vibrations. I must have not positioned it correctly... I caught it in time, but it would have dropped if I had been a millisecond slower. Saw it going out of the corner of my eye when I was adjusting my gloves.

What my dad's M2 Cyclone did was far worse though. It caught on bloody fire. We were incredibly lucking to be working on the S1 winter project at the exact moment it happened. I think best case we could have scratched one rare orange M2, worst case the garage too, if we hadn't been there.
Sheesh.
Apparently the circuit on the old tube frame Buells is always open, regardless of whether there is a key in the ignition. It was on a trickle charger, the thinking is that a diode in the voltage regulator was leaking and caused a short in the wiring harness.
I have since disconnected the negative terminal on my X1.

My dad just bought a K1200s and he took it for a ride about a month ago. He got off the bike to take some pictures and had it parked on a slight downward slope.
He said he was across the street from it when he turned back and saw it roll forward just enough to kick up the side stand and fall on the left side. A $200 paint job and a bunch of swearing later, hes learned his lesson not to trust the side stand. Apparently, this is a known issue that these kickstands are shit and barely hold the bike up on a flat surface.

I dropped my first bike (Honda Rebel 125) more then once. This bike didn't care enough. It was made from one block or iron. Then I dropped the CB500F. I still dont know what happened, I was lucky that it dropped onto the gras in the garden. So no scratches.
