Ambrosia and Sugarbee are both apples that are sweeter than Macintosh. I prefer the latter name; it's a more obvious integration of the two parents' names.

I haven't paid much attention to G5 leaks (mostly because I don't care, sadly. My time with FiM was great, but I don't have interest in continuing) but I find it very interesting that Luster is pink. It's been a common refrain from Hasbro for a long time that they want a pink protagonist. In the early days Celestia toys were all pink until the show staff made Cadance so that the toy division would have a proper pink princess.

But as far as I know G5 is still about the Mane 6, so the theory doesn't go anywhere.

In general, since the start of season 5, I think they've been favoring pink and light purple for new female ponies. Starlight, Sugar Belle, Spoiled Rich, Cozy Glow, Clear Sky... I'm sure there's more but those are what come to mind. Luster Dawn fits right in.

I don't think they put as much design consideration into Luster as they would have if they intended to tell more stories with her. It's fine for the purpose she serves in the finale, but her and the characters she runs off with at the end clearly weren't meant to be seen again. Same with the choice for her name, haha.

As for G5, I don't think they'll change the color schemes of any returning Mane Six in a significant way. I don't think they'll add a second pink / light purple character to the main cast either at the start, since the Mane Six have a nice color balance among them. This is part of why I think if they replace Applejack, they'll replace her with Sunset, since they have similar colors for the purpose of balance among the Mane Six.
