From a new interview with the NY Times, Pelosi addresses the progressive opposition to the Border funding bill:

Some House liberals have been furious with the speaker since she capitulated to Republicans and Democratic moderates and agreed to pass a bill to send more funding to the border, giving up demands for stronger protections for the migrant children ensnared in the nightmare of shelters there.

I asked Pelosi whether, after being the subject of so many you-go-girl memes for literally clapping back at Trump, it was jarring to get a bad headline like the one in HuffPost that day — "What The Hell Is Nancy Pelosi Doing?" The article described the outrage of the Squad, as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts are known.
Pelosi feels that the four made themselves irrelevant to the process by voting against "our bill," as she put it, which she felt was the strongest one she could get. "All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world," she said. "But they didn't have any following. They're four people and that's how many votes they got."

And commenting on why impeachment isn't an option:
"Oh, he'd rather not be impeached,'' she said. "But he sees a silver lining. And he wants to then say, 'The Democrats impeached me but the Senate' — he won't say Republicans — 'exonerated me.' The thing is that, he every day practically self-impeaches by obstructing justice and ignoring the subpoenas."

I don't know why she loves to fight one of the most popular Dems in congress right now more than Trump, but I'm sure there's some carefully concocted reason for it.

So thats two freshman women of color thrown under the bus so far. Ilan and AOC. Very cool to treat "the future of the party" like this.

Edit: damn she actually threw all of them under the bus. Really awesome.

honestly, the weirdest part of this story for me is that there are still people who see this kind of response and go "oh Pelosi"s not being hostile she"s just stating the facts"

Like, how many times does she have to say stuff like this before you actually consider that she doesnt like them? It reminds me of Trump supporters and them going "uh what Trump really meant was x".

I think the worst episode of this was when she was unironically clapping for Trump saying no to socialism in the US and people somehow read into it that actually she was "clapping back". People are delusional.

In some ways she's right. AOC and the squad are vocal minority. They may have the moral high ground but they don't seem to have a lot of actual support in washington

She actually didn't mock them. She said that they didn't have much influence in that particular debate as, despite all the attention, they're still only 4 votes, and weren't able to convince other members of congress to join them. This in contrast to the moderates within the party, who were able to force her hand - with some help from Schumer.

"Self impeachment"

Why does she keep saying that? What the hell does that even mean?

She is right. They aren't Senators so their individuals votes mean jack shit. A significant portion of their supporters aren't even their constituents so being Twitter famous only gets you so far.

At some point you have to play the political game if you want to pass legislation.
Nancy is a Trump enabler, she's as bad as a republican
Try to get some perspective please.

Good of her to identify the true enemy. Young democrats that are popular with young people, that'll surely help in the upcoming election.

Pelosi knows how to get things done, It's important to have. I like the 4 freshmen dems and they are important voices, but this is how politics works.

The far left slings insults at moderate dems constantly but the moment they get any criticism in return they go into a tizzy.

Also, a good article on why Pelosi, Schumer, Biden, and others who have been in Congress for a long time are more moderate, while the newer generation is not willing to kowtow to Republican beliefs

I get that Pelosi is trying to be tactical and essentially "hang on" until 2020, but this is some weak shit.

The democratic establishment is closer to the Republicans than to the progressive forces inside their own party. This shouldn't surprise anyone.

That Rolling Stone magazine cover with Pelosi, Omar, and AOC seems like a lifetime ago, doesn't it.

I think she means 4 votes in Congress.
which is still a stupid thing to say considering there were like 90-something democrats that voted No on the border bill. Downplaying it down to the 4 freshmen reps being in a social media silo is disingenuous, there was a lot of opposition to the bill

Why would she publicly fight her followers, some of which are her congresspeople? Even if she believed this, why wouldn't she pick a more diplomatic answer lol

These old dinosaurs need to go. They're severely out of touch with where the party is heading

It's pretty obvious by now that when history looks back on this moment everyone will agree that Nancy Pelosi was the absolute wrong choice of leader for the Democratic Party.
