"But they also believe that we need to pursue the investigations that are going on to make sure that certain conduct of the administration and the President that they need to be held accountable for is discovered."

House Whip James Clyburn later said on the same program that his caucus "will know whether or not (impeachment is) inevitable if we go through these processes," and noted that half a dozen House committees are currently investigating the President.

"The vast majority (of House Democrats) would, in fact, support impeachment -- just not now," Clyburn, a South Carolina Democrat, told Berman.

They’re slow walking it but it’s clear that the pressure is going to force their hand sooner rather than later. I’m just concerned she won’t commit to seeing it through. Changing dem leadership may be necessary to reign i the president and his bullshit

I think this talk about either opening up impeachment proceedings or continuing with things the way they are is crazy when they could just arrest these people that aren't showing up for testimony. I'd arrest them and give them the option to testify in chains or in a suit.

Look, I get that people are frustrated.

I honestly believe she wants to start the impeachment process, but she *needs* to get people to testify publicly. Mueller especially.

Reading about Trump's misdeeds in a 450 page report is not the same as hearing that he's a criminal from one of the most trusted lawmakers in the country... She knows she's got one shot at this, and she needs to make it count.

She's super obviously building up to an impeachment. When they go forward it's going to be like "we regret that it came to this but the president's lawlessness and refusal to comply has forced our hand" etc.

Impeachment is a grave matter, and something the public's not fully on board with yet. Part of selling it to them is going to involve playing up their reluctance to go through with it, but these are extraordinary circumstances. Remember, the last time a president was impeached it was over a blowjob and it went over like a lead balloon. That is everyone's experience with the concept.

Impeach me if I'm wrong.

Also real talk ~75% of the people clowning on her in this thread is going to blame her when the Senate doesn't vote to convict.

She's trying to ensure that it doesn't fail. And, oh yeah, also making sure it doesn't completely fuck up the Dems chances of taking the Senate and winning the presidency.

But hey, who cares about that? We need instant gratification.

Is she following some specific poll that's telling her impeachment is bad for Dem's election chances or something?

I can only assume her reluctance to call for impeachment is strategic, because it makes no sense otherwise.

Except that, in this Senate, it WILL fail. There is no path forward for her short of making a political statement with the House impeachment vote.

The obvious being stated because folks think she and other Dems dont believe it to be the case. But she’s always been of the mind that he should be held accountable in the most worhwhile fashion. Impeachment isnt the only option.

The people we elect to do checks and balances? It seems they just gotta check in, see he's corrupt as shit, and balance that out by telling us to get out and vote.

Easy peasy, no need to worry about a con man and a colluding party just going on day to day until November 2020...

What exactly do you think is going to happen, here? The majority of the country doesn't believe in impeaching the president. And evidently that number is increasing by the week.

So hey, you want to feel better about yourself for a few months until the impeachment process fizzles out, have at it.

I'd rather wait until we see some people testify publicly. Namely Mueller.
