So, someone brought up the Sega Power magazine and the letters section it had:

As it turns out, Sonic likes wearing a Nazi Swastika armband!

I'm surprised that this even made it through editorial back then.

Early game magazines had content that was 100% not appropriate for my little kid eyes. Nintendo Power had some disgusting ads in particular. So, this isn't totally surprising.

I saw the image and thought that maybe it slipped through the cracks due to poor QA from the 90s. Then I saw the pinned quote and uh ... yikes.

I'm not sure what I'm more baffled by, the state of these kids or that the sega board of the letters sat together and thought Yeah this is okay.

"Great!"

They probably shouldn't have posted it anyway but they were trying to make light that these were some of the shitty submissions that they received. You can read it under where it says Dan's crap corner. You want may want to make note of that in the OP.

Edit: As other people have noted it looks like crap corners in the other side so I'm most likely wrong on this one, so nevermind me. This magazine is idiotic.

The 90s were the fucking wild west in the game industry. Its astonishing how much shit went under the radar.

"Great!"

90's english gaming mags were wild, anything for console warfare, Nintendo fans smashing some "fony greystations" to be highlighted in the magazine and apparently Sega mag staff endorsing nazi content presumably because Mario is the one being blasted, well I hope that was the only reason it got through.

Pretty sure the crap corner is only those drawings on the bottom of the right page, where they don't have descriptions or artists' names.

The Nazi stuff is terrible, but can we talk about the picture next to it where Sonic literally punches through Mario’s face and he’s leaking blood?

I need to bleach my eyes.

Isn't that just the lower right page that is the crap corner? Also, wtf, that is still terribly mean. I think the Nazi thing is in the regular art section.

Aww, the naivety of that editorial staff that probably thought that readers of that time would look at that as an absurd example of fandom whereas now it’d never get printed since Gamers would rally around it and love it.

What the fuck was wrong with this magazine? Holy shit how did a group of edge lords like that find any form of success?
I mean that was in all the fanart of pretty much all the gaming magazines in the early 90s. I'm just shocked one with a nazi armband made it through though. Especially once Mortal Kombat came out, all the fanart would be Mario or Sonic doing fatalities to each other or other characters.

The Nazi one is on the other page of the crap corner though. Which seems to be reserved for shitting on some young kids art, which is also incredibly sketchy in it's own right

I wonder who this kid who drew fuhrer Sonic grew up to be? Proud Boys? Skinheads? Neo Nazis?
