nc gop are notoriously devilish, maybe the worst in the country when it comes to abusing everything they can to get what they want and dems keep trusting them.

I'll admit I didn't realize how bad they are. I'll hope that the dems learn from this.

BTW, they are currently lying their asses off about having announced that there would be a vote, and why the dems weren't there to vote.

House Democrat Rep. Deb Butler (D-New Hanover) asserted that her caucus was absent because they were "drawing maps" during the budget veto override, a potential violation of a court order that all such redistricting efforts take place in public view.

Slightly OT, but not a single embedded Tweet is populating for me on this site.

Where have I gone wrong in life?

I'm sure the angry comments about the Democrats will do a lot.
I think getting people who are generally left to understand what we need from our politicians in order to accomplish our goals will make people elect better politicians in primaries.

But if all we're doing here is shooting the shit and airing our grievances, why not let people focus on whatever the hell they feel like focusing on. I'm not going to complain about the people who just post "fuck the GOP", because yeah fuck the GOP.

The victims are the people of North Carolina who were completely failed by the people they elected to represent them.

There's a scene from the movie Casino where Robert DeNiro's character confronts an employee of his casino who was scammed by obvious cheaters twice in a row. "You didn't see the scam when the second machine hit? Either you're too stupid to be here or you were in on it. Either way, you're out."

Depends. The Republicans did exactly what they were elected to do.
Republicans who have way oversized control thanks to gerrymandering and voter suppression.

And the specific people they're fucking over might not be the ones voting for them.

And even if they were, that's where it kinda does go into victim blaming, saying that they deserve it because they voted wrong.

normally i'm not too keen on blaming democrats for republican foolishness, but this is North Carolina

NC Republicans have been acting like this for a good while now. They're arguably the most overtly untrustworthy group of Republican legislators in the whole country, and that's saying something nowadays.

Taking them at their word is stupid in the extreme.

They put it in writing, and it was for a 9/11 memorial.
What does writing mean to a political faction that will happily break laws to achieve their political ends, like they're doing right now jailing asylum seekers? Similarly, what does 9/11 actually mean to Republicans when they're fucking over our Ground Zero vets?

Seriously, how is it that functioning adults who are richer than me- so-called professionals- completely forgotten the fuckery of the Obama era?

Stop acting like Republicans are good people.

Without getting too much into the weeds of the "should we blame the Republicans or the Democrats more for this" debate, all I can say is I can't wait for the day North Carolina goes to a full Democratic trifecta and they gerrymander these miserable fucks out of power forever.

With any luck (and with new maps), that could come as early as next year.

And before anyone says the Democrats would be too goody-goody to do it, take a look at Illinois and Maryland.

I'm reminded of that scene in the first season of Game of Thrones when Cersei just rips up Neds letter.

"They has it in writing!" Yeah but they don't care.

So what can dems do to undo this? Call for a vote to undo this vote? Sue? Have the governor remove the speaker?

Just physically force the GOP members out of the building then vote them all a death sentence and themselves for permanent term, boom, problem solved.

This is why AOC is the current darling of the Dems. She rejects these old school ideas of decorum because she knows Republicans couldn't spell respect even if Aretha Franklin was playing in the background.

Fuck. Me.

Someone get me off of this country now. I have a passport book. I'll take something like Canada, New Zealand, Japan, etc.

Nobody cares about the laws in this country anymore, Republicans or Democrats. They just proudly let Trump & his cohorts continue to fuck up everything.

Most likely won't but there is at least a chance the Democrats will change rather than the absolutely nonexistent chance that the GOP would change with our angry comments.
I was under the impression that everything I said on these forums will have a direct impact on everything happening outside of it.

Do they not?

For those of you whining about us complaining that the Dems are being incompetent and deserves to be roasted for it, what would be achieved by merely sticking to only lobby complaints at the GOP? The GOP will do what they always do: use every trick in the book to maintain or gain power. No amount of yelling at them from the left or "sick" Twitter burns online will change that. But we can influence how the Democrats deal with such a duplicitous party through advocacy from the left, primaries, and putting pressure on Dem politicians.

Sticking our heads in the sand and continue to use bad tactics and a foolhardy attitude of taking the GOP at their word results in situations like this. Shit like this will continue to happen until Dems change how they view and engage with the GOP. And that change won't happen if we just shut-up and not take Dems to task when they do foolhardy shit like this.

Why is this hard for some people to grasp?

Dems should just start playing dirty as well
In this case they didn't even have to play "dirty", just call the GOP's bluff and double check the rulebook.

They're getting got on procedural nonsense, it is literally the job of these people as entrusted to them by their voters to know how the rules work and not let it be used against them unfairly.

This is how you snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Democrats won an election and still manage to lose at every turn. This is just sad. I honestly believe if democrats lose the 2020 vote, then that's it for the democratic party. I think it will collapse from within.

But we're the ridiculous ones for pointing out the flaws in the party. All focus must be on the GOP, ignore the bad and dumb shit the Dems are doing please.
