maybe we should wait a bit for it to come up officially, since other previews might come up at the same time?
I agree with you. Make an official preview thread when they all come up.

I guess the embargo for reviews is next week? This is the type of game where Nintendo wants a little bit of initial buzz so stores order more copies. The embargo being day before or day of release could cause shortage problems.

That was a great read! Thanks for grabbing that, very positive impressions for sure. I especially liked all the positive story impressions which excites me to no end, also learning Leonie does not like singing could prove useful in my recruitment. We still have 15 more days and hype level is already approaching critical mass...

They said they only managed to recruit one person in their playthrough, which makes me think that its not as easy as we think to recruit people, which I like, it should be a hard choice imo

That review is glowing.

"The first thing that I did when I finished the game ? Start over" is such a genuine praise.

I'm really hyped by this game. First game was awakening and i kinda skipped Fates, but i'm ready for more SRPG.

they didn't mention it, but they said that their 2nd group of Students was more laid back than the first, so my guess is Black Eagles
It could be Blue Lions too. GD is more laid back than both
Good grief ... that preview makes me wary of picking Black Eagles first. Maybe i should pick another House first and save Black Eagles for later to have the full experience....
I dont get it how it would change things much

Considering how positive the preview was, let's note down the very few negative points:

- On normal the game was very easy, the author wishes he had chosen a higher difficulty setting (not really a negative, but good to know)
- Cutscenes seem to be encoded at 24fps, different from the rest of the game and that can lead to some judder
- He had the feeling he couldn't zoom out enough on the battle field. Seemed plenty to me, but apparently the maps can get pretty big
- He found tea time to be creepy, but less so than petting from Fates
- Due to all the freedom he encountered some scenes where, apparently because he engaged some characters later than intended, persons spoke about an already dead character as if they were still alive.

Yeah that engadget preview is very reassuring; i'm not as concerned now that we're getting hyped only to taste disappointment. Its particularly nice to hear the writing be praised.

That is a very positive impression. It's cool to know that reviewers already have the game in their hands so we might get actually decent in-depth reviews from these outlets. Just 2 more weeks...

Worth noting that the review alludes to a major flashpoint 10 hours in, of 45 total. Post timeskip is sounding like it'll be most of the game, easily.

Oh, just to help prevent a possible spread of misinformation, it should be noted that when the writer said their first playthrough took them 45 hours but they reckon the next two will take 60 this is not because one route is shorter than the others. In the same paragraph they mention that they needed to rush things the first time around.

Yes, this just moved to a day one for me. I've been looking for a tactical game to unseat my favorite of all time (FFT), and this just might be the game to do so. Seriously, day one. No idea which house to pick though, and the choice gets harder with each video released

The Monastery being around 1/4-1/3 is exactly what I was hoping for. A significant chunk of the game, but not a majority. Just enough time to really interact with and develop connections with characters to then be exploited further after the time skip. If the game truly is ~60 hours for a completionist run than ~20 hours in the Academy period sounds perfect.

I'm not sure that the flashpoint is necessarily the timeskip, could just be the first turn of events

Dunno, a "major" event doesn't seem fitting for the school setting to continue like before, and i don't think that the devs have some altered gameplay/flow during the Academy time.

I am also thinking this way. Check out his quote again:

The terms of Nintendo's embargo forbid me talking about the story beyond a major flashpoint around ten hours in, and I wouldn't want to spoil it anyway. What I will say is Three Houses has some great twists and turns.
The more recent trailers gave away that there's a time skip in this game, which is a shame as keeping that under wraps would've been amazing.

So he doesn't want to spoil what happens after ten hours, yet mentions the time skip in the very next sentence (because Nintendo already revealed that).

That doesn't rule out that this flashpoint is the event that leads to the time-skip. ^^

Because, we do know that there IS a time-skip. But we do NOT know what leads to it! :D

That context suggests to me that the timeskip is exactly what the author is referring to, since they feel it's a shame Nintendo revealed it — and thus allowed it to be talked about.

This. I figure the flashpoint will be whatever happens in the second month, and then the timeskip will be a couple months after, at most. That's still the huge majority.

It might not necessarily be the time skip itself but rather the inciting event that ends the school period which leads to the time skip. So he could spoil what that event is but doesn't even though we already know a time skip follows.

Well, that of course can be true.

But then I find the phrasing to be weird. Why not just writing: "The terms of Nintendo's embargo forbid me talking about the story beyond the time skip around ten hours in [...]"

Why would he at first be intentionally vague by using "a major flashpoint" just to outright tell us it's the time skip everyone already knows about?
Just my interpretation, and in the end we won't know what exactly happens anyways. :)

Lightning for Smash
This game will consume me, I'm thinking of spreading each house playthrough throughout the year.

Black Eagles run and then take a break for Daemon x Machina

Golden Deer run and then take a break for Astral Chain

Blue Lions run and then take a break for Cold Steel III and Links Awakening

Not from leaks, but from Nintendo themselves: We know that the calendar is 12 months with one major battle each month and we know that you'll be at the academy for *at least* a year. You can do some math there.

16-24 hours sounds about right, I figure it will be around 1-2 hours per month, maybe a little more if you really take your time or less if you choose to skip through or are just fast.

Yeah thinking of doing something similiar, feel like I would get burned out by doing all 3 in one run. But that just means that the game has some great replay value, which is really nice :D

I'm guessing that the church/the evil cult (maybe both?) will throw in a plot twist that will affect each of the characters in a major way, foreshadowing their post-timeskip personalities and ideals. Unless they're really, really changing up the FE formula Jeralt will probably die around here, too.

Based on the trailers, the scene where Dimitri/Claude/Edelgard are commanding their troops suggests to me that they'll rally their houses together against a big bad for the first half "finale". The houses certainly end their school careers on a good note, vowing to meet again in 5 years, so it'll be interesting to see how things change so dramatically, especially if this "flashpoint" rallies the houses together. There are so many possibilities and they've had plenty of time to flesh out the ideas and build the world, unlike Fates. So excited.

It could be referencing the event that ends the first part and leads into the timeskip, since that hasn't been revealed in spite of the timeskip itself now being promoted.

The preview makes me even more hyped for Three Houses, since it seems IS learnt from the clusterfuck that was the story of Fates, kept the good aspects of Conquest's gameplay while fixing stuff like pair up, and drew inspiration of Genealogy, which is one of the high points in the series.

I can't wait for the 26th to arrive! 15 days are far too much to wait.

Huh, I didn't catch that the weapon triangle was being removed until now. That's a bummer since that's the reason I ended up dropping Echoes.

Hopefully the skills mentioned in the article do a good job of promoting unit variety.

That preview was everything I wanted and more, was planning on waiting until the new pro switch released or something, but now I might just buy the game and a switch at release, the temptation is too much
