What exactly makes this the best 2D Mario game? People actually mean it's better than 3/World?

I haven't played a 2D Mario in a long time and this has been on my radar.

It's my second favourite 2d Mario, behind World, and ahead of 3. I find it really hard to quantify why, since these games are such pure gameplay experiences. It's based much more on World than anything else though, with new ideas thrown in. It has a really good level of challenge in the right places, and there's a specific challenge mode too that's really good.

The Luigi DLC is the toughest Mario game they've ever done as well, and that's included.

Some people already own the game digitally and the DLC.

I'd just like Nintendo to throw me a bone for having supported the Wii U when the market in general didn't, and offer some discount for people who already bought these games.
I concur, I won 2 wiiu and played just about everything. Kind of wish I could get a discount to upgrade to the switch version.

This is by far the best Mario game, but it makes so few changes from the original version on WiiU that it will be a while before I pick it up. If those of us who bought the WiiU version could get it at a significant discount then I would probably have this one be a no-brainer, but, well, I don't have Captain Toad either and that actually made more changes over the original than this.

I really liked NSMBU and never played NSLU but I think I'm going to pass on this one, Tropical Freeze and MK8D are the only ports I was fine paying full price so far, MK8 for it's multiplayer and TF simply because it's the best in the genre. Might grab this if it hits $30 or $40.

Not worth a double dip at full price. Honestly not even worth a single dip. I didn't much care for it on WiiU. It's a $20 type of throwback game. Maybe when it's on steep discount, but hopefully we will have a new Mario Maker game by then. Gotta have a $60 first party game every month eh Nintendo?

It's a wonderful game but honestly that is too expensive if you've already played it.

It's like Nintendo is charging a portability tax because they know the reason a lot of us want to repurchase this is to play it on the go.

Creativity in level design is the standout.

I enjoy games with good level design so I'll definitely be getting this.

Thanks.

I never owned a Wii U, so I'll definitely be picking this up. I'm gonna wait until around March, though. I've got plenty to tide me over.

Not buying a Wii U is turning out to be the best gaming decision I have ever made. Only missing Xenoblade Chronicles X at this point.

Yup, and I think most people knew it almost immediately after the 2012 Holiday Season. People are salty because they made a bad buying decision. At no time was the WiiU worth $250-$300.

Hey, my mom bought me a Virtual Boy shortly after launch, plus I played and beat like half the games that were released. I've been there.

Anyway, I'm kind of annoyed that this isn't up for purchase in the US yet. The combo of NSMU and NSLU, with the double coins, makes this a steal!

Plus, I know Nintendo is working on Super Mario 3D Maker (the sequel of SMM, but with the added ability to create 3D World stages) so that would be the last WiiU game I wanted that will be on the Switch in some form.

They're charging $60, because games like New Super Mario Bros. U never existed to the mainstream. Like, they literally have no idea this game was ever released.

I still don't think a lot of you realize how hard the Wii U bombed. Like, it bombed so hard that most Wii owners never even knew it launched. Nintendo doesn't even market these titles as re-releases in many cases. From a business perspective, Nintendo would be leaving millions on the table by charging anything less than $60, because to the general public, these are brand new games they were previously completely unaware of.

Nah im not about sit here and defend trying to charge 60 bucks for a 5 year old game. The "because it was on wii u so it wasn't mainstream" argument seems like people are trying to justify a blatently anti consumer practice just because their favorite game company is doing it

Pretty much. Aside from Smash, most of the Switch games I'm interested in are the Wii U game I missed because I had no interest in that system.

I would appreciate them being $40, instead of $60 though, but Nintendo has the luxury of premium pricing and can get away with it, so what can you do?

I bought a Wii U in Dec. 2012 solely to play this game, but I think I'll hold off on the Switch version until it sees a discount.
Would have been a great opportunity to also re-release NSMB Wii without motion controls and sideways Wiimotes, that would be an instant buy.

People get butthurt when I say that no one owns the WiiU. Because it's true. And the mindshare is even lower than the sales.

And do people realize how many stages and how much gameplay this game has? Why would Nintendo first party games be less than $60 when everyone else's games are $60? This is, for all intensive purposes, a NEW game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a new game. Same for Donkey Kong. When I see commentary like this on threads, it really makes me question if people here actually see and discuss gaming with people who don't buy every system ever, and every game on every system ever, just to complain about every game ever.

Everyone knew almost instantly that the WIiU would be a flop. Don't take it out on the remaining 99% of the gaming market.

Never played this one before, I need some more Mario goodness on Switch. Now, if only we can get 3D World next, I'll be perfectly content.

Gotta remind folks that the majority of Switch owners now that are part of the general consumer base are also outside of the Era/online gaming enthusiast message board bubble.

I never played this because well...I got a Wii U in 2013 and after NSMB2 I felt tired of these games and 2D Mario in general. This game will do crazy good though especially leading into Holiday 2019.

Off topic but did anyone get their $10 certificate from pre-ordering from smash from best buy? Still have not received mine.

Should be 40 bucks tops.

No it shouldn't. The sales of the other Wii U ports indicate that there is no market problem with the $60 price tag.

What you mean to say is "I only want to spend $40 on it."

The excuse for full price for Tropical Freeze was "its one of the best games ever, its worth it!".

So what's the excuse for this game, since the "its one of the best games ever" doesn't apply here.

With the Luigi DLC included, NSMBU is indeed one of the best games ever and I would argue the best 2D Mario game ever. Tropical Freeze is also one of the best 2D platformer games ever.

The Wii U had some amazing platformers. Hopefully they port over Wooly World, another all-timer, at some point, but I don't see it happening since it already got a 3DS port and the spiritual sequel is almost done.

Well it includes the Luigi DLC which is essentially it's own 20$ game.

Diablo 3 also released at full price on Switch, after having originally been released May 2012. Switch tax is real. But I don't mind paying it.

Won't be buying this on Switch unfortunately. I played the hell out of it on Wii U and I think I'll wait for Super Mario Maker Switch for my 2D Mario itch.

Game will sell tons. Every single NSMB games has at least been in the Top 5 best selling games for their respective systems and the Switch install base should be pretty healthy after Christmas. It's also worth noting that the trailer had more views than any other trailer in its Direct, including Smash.

It's the best Mario game, period, to me. Top notch level design.

That said, I won't buy this version. Still can't believe how little was added.

I would argue that is not even worth the money in that case since there are way better 2D platformers on the Switch alone like DKCTF and Rayman Legends.
Well, the game is far from being bad or even mediocre, you could argue it is not great if you want, I would say that is mostly subjective, but otherwise for new players this is a very good option for a 2D platformer.

This and NSMB 2 on 3DS have been the only Mario games I have never bothered finishing due to how monotone and boring they are for me. Charging $60 bucks for it is a sin IMO.

(Loved the Van Gogh inspired level on NSMB U though)

As with Tropical Freeze, I'll save my money and stick with the Wii U version. It's too expensive to get me to double dip, but it'll still sell well with people who haven't played it before.
