Sorry I had to.

Gameplay
  • Toadette is added as a new playable character.
    • The Super Crown is added as a new power-up exclusively for Toadette (detailed above).
    • When playing as Toadette, all Blocks containing 1-Up Mushrooms instead contain 3-Up Moons.
    • Toadette has swimming properties like the Penguin Suit no matter what form she has.
    • Toadette and Nabbit are less slippery than Mario, Luigi, and Toad. Even while running, they will stop sooner and are less likely to fall into pits. They are also resistant to slipping on ice.
    • Both the New Super Mario Bros. U and the New Super Luigi U levels start with 100 additional seconds on the timer when playing as either Toadette or Nabbit and doubles when both of them are being played.
  • Nabbit is now available as a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. U.
    • Nabbit has new voice clips that are similar to Toads.
    • Nabbit can now bounces off Yoshis instead of phashing through them.
    • Nabbit can now carry objects.
  • Player 1 is able to play as any of the playable characters, not just Mario in New Super Mario Bros, U/Luigi in New Super Luigi U.
  • Spin Jump now shares the same button as jump while in mid-air.
  • Boost Mode and its corresponding challenges have been entirely removed from the game.
Aesthetics
  • The game has a higher resolution, being displayed in native 1080p in TV mode, and 720p in Handheld and Tabletop modes.
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is incompatible with Miiverse. However, the system has not been available for the original game since Miiverse shut down in 2017.
  • Character selection icons now use their updated artwork. Toadette and Nabbit are also labeled as "Easy" and "Very Easy" respectively.
  • The challenges menu has been redesigned.
  • The UI has gotten many various changes throughout the game.
Other
  • Yellow Toad and Blue Toad have been merged into a single "Toad" character, who can swap colors by press L on the character selection screen.
  • In the pause menu during levels, buttons on the controller can be remapped.
  • On the pause screen, characters can be changed on the map screen.
  • There is now a hint button on the menu, providing game play tips for new players.
  • The game is now compatible with HD Rumble.

Reminder that this thread is a Bowsette-free zone. All discussion of Bowsette and any other non-existent super crown forms is completely illegal under Nintendo's "please don't fuck our characters" policy.

I wish they changed the horrendous soundtrack and removed the wah wah. Those two things killed my enjoyment of the game. I got sick of them.

This is maybe the worst music and sound design Nintendo has created in all its history.

I admit the challenge mode looks very good to me... but I'm not paying 60 for this again.

Maybe this will sell millions ... despite that I hope this is the last we know of the "new" series... and I hope we get the gorgeous 3D World someday.

Got it pre-ordered on Amazon but thinking about changing that and pre-ordering off the eshop instead. My only hesitation is that this game will be pointless once Mario Maker 2 arrives.

Excited to play Jeremy Parish's #1 Super Mario Bros. Game again.

When this game first came out on Wii U my daughter watched me play it from her Mamaroo. Now she's six and playing New Super Mario Bros 2 on her own 3DS and I can't wait to play this with her.

The reasons I didnt vibe with my launch purchase Wii U was I just played NSMB2 on 3DS + it was not the launch game I wanted even though I tried giving it a chance + it didn't try hard enough offering new exciting (visual) themes + I already regretted buying the system itself day 1 so that didn't help either. (I remember I basically only played Darksiders 2 the first 6 months since there was nothing exciting at launch for solo players)

But honestly I've been kinda waiting for a chance to play this game on a better system now I haven't played a NSMB game in a while and I am actually in the mood for it this time. :)

I somehow missed out on this game the first time around, despite picking up basically every other first party release on the Wii U. Looking forward to playing for the first time!

Luigi U is tough. Perhaps I'll pick up the game to re-experience the challenge.

I 100% this with my wife back on the Wii U. If there was any new content, I'd be in day 1, but I'm not paying for the same game again

This is the best Mario 2D title. It's unbelievable as I went my whole life thinking Super Mario World could never be dethroned but this game is truly incredible.

I might pick this up. I never got to far into the Wii U version and it's been long enough that I've forgotten most of what the game had to offer. I've also never played Luigi U which seems like a substantial enough DLC.

At first I was like 'Naaaah' because I already played it quite a bit on Wii U but then Christmas came and I have some gift cards to spend, so day 1!

I didn't have this on the Wii U, so I'm quite excited for this to arrive Friday. I'm also looking forward to the 4 player co-op and I wasn't aware that there were so many optional modes. I can see myself playing this for a long time and I haven't even looked into what Luigi U entails.

Nice OP. Can't wait to finally play this. The coin challenge looks fun! Is that new this version? Looks like arcade Mario Bros!

It's too bad I can't play as Toadette/Peachette without the game making itself eaaier.

Imagine paying $60 for this in 2019.

Imagine inputting the code into the eShop.

Imagine preloading the game.

Imagine playing the game on Friday after it unlocks.

Been waiting for this every since it was rumored about a year ago. Can't wait.

I see some people say this might be the best 2D Mario?

Is this piss easy like the DS Mario sidescroller?
From what I remember of the game, no. It's actually a good difficulty. But I didn't really play through it fully at the time due to franchise fatigue when it first came out, despite loving the Wii game.

But if you still find it too easy, play New Super Luigi U, that thing is so awesome and is not easy by pretty much any metric.

IMO difficulty wise, New SMB DS < New SMB 3DS < New SMB U ~ New SMB Wii < New Super Luigi U.

So, all they did for the remaster was to up the res to 1080p and make the game easier, by adding a second "cheat character" think I'll pass.

Think I'm gonna pass, which feels weird to say about a Mario game. Played it on Wii U and didn't love it back then either. Asked my fiancée if she'd play it with me if I bought it and she asked "is that the one with the cherries and skating?" And I said "no that's 3D World" And she said "I'll wait for that one".

Even my non-gamer fiancée knows 3D World is the port we should've got.

I'm so torn on whether or not to get this.

I haven't played it since I got my Wii U. I loathe the NSMB series on principle, but the gameplay and level design in this entry is undeniable. I'd love to revisit those elements and give this game a fresh look detached from the Wii U launch disappointment/proximity to NSMB 2.

On the other hand, I forced myself to listen to the NSMB U soundtrack on YouTube a couple days ago just to see if it's as bad as I remembered. It was somehow worse.

Blah. It's amazing how music and art design can decimate the status of a game from "masterpiece" to "mediocre." But I'm still tempted to buy.

It is in single player. The final levels are really tough though.

I'm trying to complete Super Mario 3D world at the moment and man I got a lot to say about that game. SM3DW is clearly the better game but I think this type of old school platforming feels a little archaic at the moment. Just my two cents though. Hope you all enjoy it.

I'm playing through SM3DW right now (after having played through NSMBU & SLBU) and to be honest, I'm not seeing it.

Dang it I'm so tempted to buy this lol. I played a little bit of the original version on Wii U but did not play any of Luigi U.

Plus with the amount of gold coins I have I'd get a 13 dollar discount. And 600 gold coin bonus!

But money is kind of tight right now...
