Found this tweet on /v/, but didn't see a thread here.

As someone hesitant at first, I'm kinda sad that they are delayed. It certainly was surpassing OT not see them alongside the fall update. I hope they end up being good, and hopefully compatible with at least some items.

They looked great and showed a lot of promise in the trailer, so I'm fine with delaying them to make sure they come out as advertised at the least. I hope there's good variety without it being locked behind MTX and that they use them more throughout the Xbox offerings similar to Miis on the Wii

It's weird, I'm kinda excited for these, even though I'll probably spend very little time with them...

Really really dig the pixar-esque style

Well, Phil Spencer promised to focus on first party output, so while avatars being delayed really sucks, it's probably for the greater good, with MS reallocating resources to create a better, more diverse and more unique library.

The design is great, and I love the fact that they added all these options like wheelchairs, prosthesises etc.

But... how are avatars even used these days? I vaguely remember mine wearing a MC armor, but I am not sure when I last saw him, and where they reside in the new dashboard?

Other than Mii Maker and the Sonic Forces Rookie Maker (yeah, I know; ended up looking nearly identical to m all things considered. Yeah, I know), I've yet to use an avatar/character system that allows me to make an avatar that actually looks like me. I hope this one will succeed where the previous one failed for me.

I'm sure the avatar team is already working hard on Fable IV.

Sea of Thieves hasn't come out and flopped yet.
That's a bit of a dickish, unnecessary thing so say, no? Plus, people that care enough about video games that they spend time discussing them on a forum should by now have realized that completely different people do different tasks, and more often than not, one is detached from the other.

I imagine they will come in 2018 along with an updated UI that shows them off similar to how it is on 360 currently. If it stays the same i think some people will make avatars ( i know i will) but probably not ever see them. We also need the return of games that use our Avatars like uuh...Doritos Crash Course s/(kind of but not really)

If new avatars don't come with a new 1vs100, I am not interested.
It's time for Microsoft to resurrect online party games and online event games. There is a huge gap in the market to be filled and it could really build a sense of community around the Xbox brand again.

1vs100 was incredible fun, and it hasn't been replicated since. They really should try and do something similar.
Here is a trailer for those not in the know of what we were supposed to be getting.

Wow, they look so much better than the old ones. I hope this also means a new Doritos Crash Course!

Whats even the point in your post?

I think he/she was probably making a joke about Rare not actually developing the avatars this time. Or something.

As a matter of fact, Rare (or Rareware fame) is developing the avatars, and yes, they Sea of Thieves (spiritually) shares a lot with Fable. Would you rather have avatars now and Sea of Thieves delayed?

Wait, Rare is working on these avatars???? Umm, I don't think that's the case......

These redesigned avatars are so damn cool. I can't wait to check 'em out, so hopefully they're widely supported. I enjoyed unlocking avatar items for 360 games, maybe they'll do more things like that and allow other ways to earn avatar items rather than spending real world bucks.

Look good but will they actually be used for anything? 1vs100 and that poker game were pretty good but I cant think of any other games that used them in a meaningful way and they wont be used in gears of war or forza etc. If microsoft developed a social network exclusively for xbox with voice chat and facial tracking it would be cool, but seeing how MS has killed kinect I dont see how they could pull something like that off.

I still dont know what they are supposed to be used for. Almost made sense with kinect stuff but now they seem even more pointless.

Not suprising its Unity, probably pretty easy to get something up and running to start off the process. Pretty well done too if that trailer represents the fidelity at which the avatars will be at.
I'm assuming they're not developed in Unity (that wouldn't make sense), but that they're compatible with Unity so they can be used by indie devs and easily pulled in to their games without much work.

I think he's referring to them both being British, just like Fable (spiritually) shares a lot with GTA and Batman Arkham Asylum.

Both British, both were developing a cooperative adventure game that was delayed many times (one of them is still in development), and after Lionhead got shut down some talent... jumped ship and ended up with Rare. Art style and humor is also comparable.

ah yes, Did you know that Mario also has a lot in common with the Japanese porn industry? Click here to find out why.

you think you are being smart but Sea of Thieves and Fable Legends are about to have a lot more in common

I really hope you don't mean Sea of Thieves is getting cancelled.

EDIT:

Ah you don't actually know anything then. Otherwise you'd know Rare isn't developing the avatars.

crash course, joyride turbo, most table based games that used your avatar as the character, etc

anyway you first build a good base with the avatars and then you start making more games using it, not the other way around

unfortunately one is in the grave and the other is drinking grog at the drunken rat.

edit: having played both Sea of Thieves and Fable Legends...trust me they are not the same lmao

If they actually look like the trailer, very cool and 1 vs 100, excellent but if it's just the same old stuff, high res, nah.

Doritos Crash Course was/is fucking brilliant. What's with the sarcasm!?

EDIT: I should say I'm referring to the first game and not the mess of a sequel.

I've been an Xbox player since 2001 and I literally could not give less of a shit about avatars.

Not trying to thread shit. But they always just stuck out to me as a way to get people to spend on the stupid clothes and props for them.

If they bring back that 1v100 gameshow with the avatars I'll be all ears. But playing virtual dress up is one feature that does absolutely nothing for me.

No harm either, I like a lot of the features they add to the console. I'm sure a lot of people like these too.
