Story choice is not something I want in Gears. Hated it in 5, will probably hate it here too.

More hub worlds is fantastic news though, just make sure to populate them.

Hmm.. I think this is the moment I part ways with the Gears franchise. Gears 5 dragged a bit too much for my liking. The open world segments didn't add anything for me.

I didn't like the decision you have to make in Gears 5 (How are they going to continue in Gears 6?), I don't want more open levels and I HATE RPG elements in games that aren't RPG.

The hub worlds. While abit empty. Were a great for world building imo. It felt way more i was on Sera then any other game.

That 'choice' in Gears 5 felt so unearned and unnecessary imo so this is not what I want to hear.

Well, I didn't finish the last God of War because of that... Really don't like this trend, but seems like the more bloated the better huh.

The snow hub was pretty poor, but the red sand one was kinda cool. And that choice by the end surprised me a lot, very interested to see how they'll move forward with the consequences of such choices.

Gameplay-wise this was my favorite Gears, so I'm on board with whatever Coalition brings next

The "sort of open" sections were just a worse version of what Uncharted 4 had. I don't feel they added anything to the game when nothing really happened in those sections until you got to the different smaller areas marked by flags.

I hadn't played a Gears game since the first one and felt that absolutely nothing had changed in all those years but graphics. Which I suppose is why some love it but eh, I mostly played it for the spectacle. As a solo player experience it was something that I played through on Xbox Gamepass PC but will have zero interest to try again.

I loved 5, but I hope they don't go overboard while chasing bullet points to put on the back of the box.

It depends on how good the choice stuff they go with in the future works out. But I enjoyed the changes.

Absolutely the wrong direction for this franchise. Just make it a balls-out shooter with insane graphics and VFX. No one wants or cares about the story in Gears Of War. Open world is a terrible idea. We just want to blow shit up in brilliantly designed levels with great weapons. The end.

It felt like a big waste of time in Gears 5. RPG bloat without any actual RPG systems.

I mean, if they want to go all the way and have full RPG progression and armour customization/weapon upgrades for the campaign, that might be interesting. As it was in Gears 5, though, it was like GOW 2018 if you could only upgrade Atreus.

The snow hub was decent, the sand one was awful.

Absolutely, love what they did with Jack. I can't even process how good Coalitions next gen game will look.

Also, is there talk of Unreal Engine 5? Are devs still fully backing UE4 for next gen?

I don't get how people can be so put off about the open segments. They are not long, if you want to get to the next mission, it literally takes 3 minutes. Whoever wanted more from the game, side content, weapon upgrades and such, was rewarded to dig deeper into the world. The game also made Sera feel like a planet to me, consisting of more than just setpieces. I never felt that the campaign's pacing was affected too much from this design decision either. Everyone could just play the way they wanted.

The way the story is going, I have a strong feeling Gears 6 may be the last Gears either forever or for a long time. Feels like we are coming to an end.

Finishing their game before shipping would be a great thing, for first. The amount of bugs and multiplayer issues still there after two months is baffling.

I liked the open world segments because they were used to really flesh out the story. This was the first Gears game that really fleshed out the lore of the world to a point where everything that happened in the first four games is now coherent.

The first act showed why people have a loathing for the COG and the we give you security in exchange for freedoms stance.
The second act was important in tying down the Myrrah back story.
The third act in the desert a back story for the hammer of dawn and differing factions, and this was really fleshed out in the open world segments.

Even the campaign was buggy as fuck for at least a week if not more. Haven't even checked if half my achievements have even popped yet.

Worth noting that the interviewee doesn't actually say what the thread title here implies.
Nice one OP.

Yeah double down on all the bad features instead of returning to what made Gears great in the first place. Gears 5 was already the worst Gears. Maybe the series isn't for me anymore though. Great for people who enjoy it I guess.

Too bad the AI team mates were not only useless, they actively hindered you on the harder difficulties.

I still haven't finished Gears 5 due to the hub in Act 3 boring me. I prefer shooters like this, Halo, and COD to be linear experiences. Not everything needs open world and RPG elements. Ubisoft are learning that.

Hopefully this is designed for Scarlett and not having to run on both XB1 and Next Box

Assuming that the next will have a development time of at least 3 years it will come out by the end of 2022. I would be surprised if they release it for last gen systems.

I liked the hub worlds but the decision they asked the player to make in the last chapter felt shoddy and just killed off potential storylines.

I am surprised, I expected them to keep on adding to the current gears and try a new ip instead, since my impressions were that fans of the series were disappointed in gears 5 and that the title did not seem a major succes (based on most players count from the xbox store and twitch viewers).

I thought the hubs ruined the pace of the game and were basically just padding. If they want to go that direction, they need a lot of work. Didn't like them at all here.

Gears 5 was weak, glad I could play it for cheap via PC game pass. The game almost put me to sleep at times, a first for the series. It was by far the worst game in series out of the ones I've played (Gears, Gears 2, Gears 3, Gears 4, Gears 5). It feels like this franchise is spent. None of the changes in Gears 5 were for the better.

I was thinking, will there be a Gears 7 after this or will Coalition work on something new?

I honestly didn't care for the new elements, but I didn't hate them. I didn't like the choice in the game and I think it was a bad idea.
