Since Mecha Meister is taking some time off from the forum, I'll be stepping in and handling OT11 for this glorious thread. So hold onto your butts!

I'M GOING TO PREFACE THIS THREAD WITH THIS RIGHT NOW, SO PAY ATTENTION. BARELY ANYTHING IS CONFIRMED. TERAFLOPS (lulz) AND OTHER NUMBERS ARE BASED ON PURE SPECULATION OR SECOND HAND INSIDER INFO. ANYONE SAYING SOMETHING IS CONFIRMED, TREAT IT WITH SCRUTINY.


WHAT WE KNOW FOR CERTAIN:

All Next-Gen Consoles:
  • Hardware ray tracing
  • Most likely holiday 2020 release date
  • Fast SSD storage
  • Plays games!

The Xbox Series X:
  • 12 Teraflopsies
  • HDMI 2.1
  • Quick resume for multiple games
  • Backwards compatible
  • Has SSD
  • Fan on top
  • Can be turned sideways
  • Might not fit in your current setup. Not as deep, but tall. Think rectangular prisms and whatnot
  • Extra slot on back may be for additional storage, but maybe not
  • People like calling it the SeX for silly reasons
  • Controllers maybe not included (not really. That would be silly)

The Xbox Series S:
  • May or may not exist. Probably does. But maybe not. Kinda.
  • Cheaper than Series X if it does indeed exist

The PlayStation 5
  • Sony's closely guarded secret
  • Backwards compatible with at least PS4
  • Controllers have new rumblys
  • The fifth PlayStation console
  • Has SSD
  • Dev kit looks like an alien spaceship with a cheese wedge removed from it
  • Hopefully very quiet
  • Logo surprising says PS5

WHAT WE DON'T KNOW AT ALL BUT PRETEND TO:
  • How strong these consoles are
  • How much RAM these consoles have
  • How much storage is available
  • Will there be a built in microwave?
THREAD RULES:
  • No console wars. Nobody cares about your undying loyalty to your plastic box of choice.
  • No Pastebin rumors. Anybody can create a BS Pastebin and these are almost always BS.
  • Have fun. Don't attack others for believing something you don't. In the end, these consoles are going to play some great games, no matter the power. However, on that note, people are allowed to challenge speculation. Just do it politely.
  • Remember, the mods are always watching, so play nice, mmkay?

I've discussed this with B-Dubs and here's the rules:
  • Make a bet on the exact release date of the PS5 reveal
  • Interviews with Wired (or another publication) and State of Play events do count BUT:
  • Either full spec reveal (CPU / GPU / RAM / etc) or showing the actual console (think Series X reveal) must happen. Not just a shadow or some shit. I mean showing the whole damn thing.
  • Leaks do NOT count
  • Votes for "none" don't count. Only concrete dates.
  • You win? The staff will give you an awesome tag
  • You lose? You get an embarrassing avatar of my choosing until the PS5 is RELEASED

Our very on Doct0r is running a side contest with this, offering to pre-order a PS5 for the lucky winner. If there are multiple winners, one will be drawn at random. That being said, only the avatar bet is officially offered from ResetEra staff. Any other prizes offered by community members will be handled by those members and them alone.

- msoft and sony are waiting to list price until the other announces first. Then undercut by $100 and first born child.
- msoft has the more powerful console.
- Sony has the more powerful console.
- the final TF counts will be determined by the amount of people who guess the ps5 reveal rate correctly.

Doct0r - would you be open to doing the competition as a raffle of those with the same guess if there is more than one with the same date? That might help those that want to choose the same as someone else, but might end up picking a random date instead (lol they're all random..)

In all seriousness.

It seems seem Sony is revealing things when they 'have' too and get ahead of leaks.
The first reveal was in April 2019 when they were sending out devkits.
The second reveal was in Oct 2019 when I think they were sending out controllers?

So, I think Sony will post the specs via blog/email/wired right before GDC. When there is more discussion with developers what this can actually do.

Then they will probably have E3 like showcase in Mayish or Early June?
