Welcome to the NHL 2018 Thread for December

Twas the night before deadline, when all through the town ...
Not a creature was stirring, not even Connor Brown;
The contracts were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that William Nylander's soon would be there;

The Leafs were nestled all snug in their beds, ...
While visions of Cups danced in their heads; ...
Babs working practice, Kyle working the cap, ...
Auston settled down for a long pre-game nap, ...

When out on the ice there arose such a clatter, ...
Mitch sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. ...
Away to the window he flew like a flash, ...
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. ...

Was that Lou on the breast of the new-fallen snow? ...
With an offer sheet in hand and a pen down below? ...
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, ...
But Carlton The Bear, who ate tiny reindeer, ...

With a little old driver, so lively and canny, ...
I knew in a moment it had to be Shanny ...
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, ...
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; ...

"Now, MITCHY! now, BROWNIE! now, RIELLY and MATTY! ...
On, FREDDIE on PATTY on, J.T. and KAPPY! ...
To the top of the standings! To the top of the table! ...
Now dash away! Dash away! Show what you're able."

As Maple Leafs know, with millions of dollars on call ...
Win now they should do because they can't sign 'em all. ...
So to the standings-top the coursers they flew, ...
With the sked full of victories, and Freddie Gauthier too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof ...
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. ...
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, ...
Down the chimney he came with a bound.

He was dressed all in paisley, from his head to his toe, ...
And his clothes were all glimmering, blinding you know; ...
Rock'em Sock'em videos he had flung on his back, ...
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! ...
His cheeks were like roses, my gawd it's Don Cherry! ...
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, ...
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

MacLean spoke the puns, Cherry held tight in his teeth, ...
And the smoke out his ears encircled his head like a wreath; ...
He had a broad face and wanted to talk some more ...
On Gilmour, and Gretzky and the great Bobby Orr.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, ...
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; ...
A wink of his eye, he knew what he was doin' ...
'The Leafs are good,' said the old Bruin

Then he spoke to Willie, 'Open your eyes ...
'You won't beat Kyle, he's smart, analytically wise.' ...
But I heard him all mad, ere he drove out of sight, ...
"Fighting for money, instead of fighting on ice."

Special thanks to Abylim for this hockey themed night before Christmas

Not December for another 2.5 hours, but I have to work some OT tomorrow, I'll be leaving by 4 to catch the Leaf game though.

Fuck you fallout, in a parallel universe where zombie Rasputin lead Russia to be a global leader, Canada was annexed by the powerful nation. Any political enemies within the vicinity of Canada were sent to Russia's satellite gulag a truly inhospitable place known as zamorazhivaniye ada, but you may know it better as Winnipeg because whatever universe you're in it's still sucks. This version in particular doesn't even have food trucks.

What's more likely, Wilson get's a meaningful suspension or Nylander signs by 5?

Gonna go with Nylander signing

To be fair, not only am I a Caps fan, but also love Tom Wilson. So I'm completely unbiased.
I'm imagining the delusion it requires to defend Tom Wilson at this point, even after all his other suspensions and the fact he's played like 9 games since coming off a large suspension and then placed in such an obvious moment of absence. Yet he continues to be dangerous and represent the worst part of the NHL and people like you feel like he should be defended.

My goal isn't to defend him to much of anyone. I don't particularly care about how people feel about him. Hell, I'd absolutely hate him if he wasn't on the team I follow.

I'm not going to say he hasn't derseved most of his suspensions either. But this call was terrible.

And I simply don't agree about players like that representing the worst of the NHL. The NHL is better with villains. It's a struggle for me to weigh player's health vs entertainment. I'm torn on fights. I hate guys like Cooke, but they make the game more entertaining to me.

you know what, hockey players should be allowed to have guns. I know it's morally wrong and some of them might have children, but haha it's entertaining to me

EDIT : oops forgot to switch account

"The NHL is better with Villains" sounds like something a Trump voter would say

For those interested in the latest Wilson situation...

Another angle

Things that the Caps and Wilson group will point to:

- he catches him in the back/shoulder, not the head
- Seney is going back and left and then pushes a bit to the right at the last moment
- Wilson was going to the left side but then corrected and went to the right side. He tucked in a bit

IMO he should have done more to avoid contact. If it weren't for his previous history I'd call it an interference penalty and be done with it but since it's Wilson we all look at it differently

I get the feeling that all OT subtitles for the rest of the season will be a back-and-forth between Nylander and Sens references.

Hahaha. You're not wrong. (For the record, definitely not a Trump supporter.)

Don't particularly see how politics really plays into my opinion whatsoever though. I simply disagree on a singular call in a game. And I admitted that my own point of view is problematic, but sure guns sound fun too.

After tomorrow and at least until the trade deadline we will be mostly and mercifully spared of Nylander headlines

Girard always seems to be on the wrong side of highlight reel goals

My goal isn't to defend Nylander to much of anyone. I don't particularly care about how people feel about RFAs. Hell, I'd absolutely hate RFAs if he wasn't an RFA on the team I follow.

I'm not going to say he hasn't derseved $7 million either. But this rumour was terrible.

And I simply don't agree about players like that representing the RFAs of the NHL. The NHL is better with RFAs. It's a struggle for me to weigh player's value vs entertainment. I'm torn on RFAs. I hate guys like RFAs, but they make the game more RFAs to me.

As far as first pages go this is a pretty shitty one, you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
