Yea, good God, I mean he had a good year, but he's still Skinner and made of glass.

No he isn't. He's barely missed any time the last 5-6 years.
He's had a bad concussion history and also shot 5% higher than his average on a contract year. Not an ideal situation to be signing someone. I like him, but that's a big number for a guy who just had a great year while also needing a contract.

He's missed 3 games in the last 4 years and less than 50 his entire career. Concussions early on were obviously bad but he's seemingly adjusted the way he plays and isn't getting hit the way he was early on.

Its obviously a bit of an overpayment but the Sabres aren't really in a position to let a 40 goal guy walk for nothing.

That's basically where I'm at, they can't let him walk, but it's an overpayment I wouldn't be down for. They didn't have much choice.

Oh, the shifting goal posts

"made of glass":

Note: the one season where he played 42 games was a 48-game season.

Ironically, he's probably one of the most durable top-6 forwards of the last 8 years

(that is not to say his contract isn't a significant overpayment)

Happy for Skinner that he got paid. Just would be apprehensive about such a contract for such a streaky player coming off a career year.

Yup

He also declined to go to the White House

"It's one of those things that we have to think about, but with me, I've got to stay true to my values, and I'm going respectfully decline the offer," Holtby said. "For me, it's just a personal thing. I believe in what I believe in, and in order to stick to those values, I think I have to do what I feel is right, but that doesn't make a difference on everyone else's decision."

He's one of the good ones.

Closing in on a deal: Alex Meruelo in advanced stages of purchasing majority share of Coyotes

Billionaire entrepreneur Alex Meruelo is in the advanced stages of purchasing a majority share of the Arizona Coyotes, league sources confirmed. If approved by a vote of the NHL Board of Governors, the sale would transfer a substantial majority stake in the team (percentage unknown) to Meruelo, with current owner Andrew Barroway retaining a small minority share.

With the two sides having ironed out several key material issues in the past two weeks, the vote is expected to be on the agenda at the NHL Board of Governors meeting on June 19 in Las Vegas, site of the annual NHL Awards show. Even if the Board of Governors approves the sale, however, a closing date may not come until later this summer.

It is unclear how the organization's desire for a new arena fits into the ongoing talks. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is on record as having said the team must have a new arena to survive in Arizona, but it's unclear whether that attitude has changed. Gila River Arena's Glendale location is not ideal because the vast majority of Coyotes season ticket holders and premium season ticket holders live on the east side of town, but league sources said that for the foreseeable future, Meruelo's focus would be on making the team successful in Arizona.

If you want the easy Coyotes joke, here ya go...
Meruelo has a history of buying troubled assets, improving them and then holding on to them, rather than selling or flipping them. The pizza chain and his two casinos are prime examples.

"I just look at opportunities and I buy at distressed values," he told the Times. "I'm not much of a seller."

With all the knicks talk, I looked up how much Dolan is worth.

James Dolan (Rangers owner) net worth $1.5 Billion

Compared to the Baron of Fleet.

David Thomson (Jets co-owner) net worth $37.5 Billion

Yes please. I would be sad to see Lord Byron go, he's been such a steady player for this team.

Pens beat write for the Athletic just now:
Phil Kessel has forced Jim Rutherford's hand.

The Penguins general manager nearly had a trade completed with the Wild last month that would have sent Kessel and Jack Johnson to Minnesota.

Now, it appears as though Kessel isn't going anywhere.

"I think that's the way things are headed at this point in time," Rutherford told The Athletic. "I expect Kessel will probably play for Pittsburgh next season."

"You have to understand that he has a no-trade clause and a lot of leverage," Rutherford said. "In situations like this, it usually doesn't work out so well for the team. That's just the way it is. So, at this point, it looks to me that he will return at this season. That's how I'm proceeding moving forward."

What. That's who the Flyers want or who the Habs want to give? Is the price for Ghost that low?
According to this guy it is

Shaw is also coming off of his best season ever, I would be impressed with Bergevin if he actually took advantage of his season and dumped him now before his numbers regress again.

Wow, the Flyers are dumb.
Dunno if you listen to the 31 thoughts podcast, but Friedman said that Fletcher is going to be super aggressive this off season, 11th pick is available and expected to make a lot of roster changes. Apparently not making the playoffs next season is unacceptable.

Ahhh I see. It's a "back against the wall" type of move. Getting Ghost for such a low price would be an absolute steal.

Just a reminder that your favorite teams suck, your cities/states/provinces suck and I hate them.

Proposed rule changes:
-General "Coach's Challenge/Video Review" changes
-Helmetless players required to leave the ice ASAP
-Defending team can't change if their goalie freezes a shot from outside the red line
-Defending team can't change if they knock the net off unintentionally in their zone
-At the start of power plays, or if the defending team is in a situation where they can't change, the attacking team can choose their faceoff dot
-The puck stays in the attack zone if the attacking team sends it over the glass (wat)
-Regulation wins have more weight in the standings than ROW (LeBrun says Regulation Wins > ROW > All wins > Head to head > Goal Differential > Goals for)

These changes seem good, but the attacking team putting the puck over the glass seems ready to be exploited.

Some old scout who has done scouting for the Habs a long time ago and knows Timmons, as well as called the Kotka pick back in January last year has the Habs taking Lassi Thompson at their pick. Pronman has him at 42 on his board. Hrmm.
