Devil's Third is such a weird game. It feels like they wanted to make a multiplayer game and were forced to tack on a campaign. Or maybe my mind just refuses to believe that someone came up with the singleplayer in earnest.

A dumb question; during my stay in the US I bought a copy of Mega Man 11 (this marks my second Capcom game which I will "import", next to my Japanese copy of Ace Attorney Investigations 2), but can I get the gold points and add them to my EU account?

Also I've been to the Nintendo store in NY and that was pretty fun. I mean the store's selection is pretty decent, not super, but the vibe they have is so positive. The people working there are super friendly too. One of the guys there was jealous of Nintendo's EU special edition of Link's Awakening and was disappointed he couldn't get one.

And they played Link's Awakening music during my visit. Feels man.

Interesting, Nintendo is featured on the front page of the Apple iOS App Store today. On the same day that Apple are holding their iPhone event. Which is the same event Shigeru Miyamoto went on stage to show off Super Mario Run for the first time.

Love Nintendo? Play these games: Whatever you're into, there's a game for that.

I went to the Nintendo store in NY in Summer 2015, and loved it there. Yes you're right, a very positive vibe in that store. When I was there the Switch hadn't released and Splatoon had released a couple of months earlier on Wii U.

What I was disappointed with is that I didn't see as much of a Nintendo "presence" as I thought there would be, on my trip to Tokyo in March this year. Yeah there were electrical stores selling the latest Switch games and consoles. But Nintendo goods weren't front & centre like I was expecting. It took a while of looking just to find places that sold Nintendo Playing Cards.

No. Retail games are not compatible across region for gold point registration if the target region does not have a retail release.

I can't wait for the Switch Lite. I've wanted something like it since Day 1 because to me the Switch is a handheld first. Only docked it a few times over the last two years.

Anyway, I didn't pre-order one because I'm still technically a Target employee (even though I haven't worked there in months) so I'm going to try and pick one up at launch. I'm wondering if they'll sell out. Because at that price, they're hard to ignore. Think they'll be a lot of first time buyers grabbing one.

Can I buy more of those tickets that let you redeem them for a full priced game? I can't find the option anywhere.. (Sorry, I forgot what these are called)

I've been stuck with a nasty green N64 that I bought used at GameStop many years ago and this past weekend at the Portland Retro Game Expo I got a minty fresh, grey, Japanese N64 in the original box! I've been working on my N64 collection lately and filling the gaps of the more expensive games with JP releases. Here's what I have so far along with some comments on each and some memories I have of each title. Some of these I just got at PRGE so I don't have a ton to say about them. I'm in a very N64 mood so...long post incoming.

AeroGauge JP - Impressive speed on high difficulty and cool vehicle and menu designs. I want to love this, but it's tough as nails and has an obtuse boost mechanic.

Blast Corps - This is one of my favorites on the system and deserves a lovingly crafted sequel. That red truck holding the nukes makes me instantly feel anxiety when it seems to appear out of nowhere.

Body Harvest - I've yet to seriously play this one, but it looks promising. Very cool concept for a game.

Crusin' USA - The arcade version of this began my frothing N64 obsession. Finally having it at home was sobering because it got old pretty fast. These days the game is just silly and not much else.

Crusin' World - Just nabbed this for dirt cheap....I've heard it's better than USA so we'll see. The colors in this game offend my senses, but the theme song is a banger. Crusin'...yeahhh crusin woOOOORRRLLLD!!! YEAH!!! You got the beat! You got the powah! To crusie the world!

F-Zero X - King of racing games on the N64. It still plays like butter until this day. Nothing matches the thrill of knocking a rival off the track or flying over the finish as your ship explodes. That soundtrack is also the most hype soundtrack of all time.

F-Zero X JP - My first import game ever. I couldn't wait for the US release! I remember that I ordered it from Chips n Bits, an importer, that apparently had a very poor reputation.

Flying Dragon JP - Another new pick-up. This is that fighter that lets you pick between chibi and normal-sized characters. The menus are only in Japanese so I haven't messed with it much.

Goemon 64 JP - Thanks to the local video game rental place from my childhood I got to play many N64 games in Japanese first. I got pretty far in this version even though I couldn't read any of the text. Good memories so I had to add it to my collection. What a surreal adventure!

Goemon Board Game JP - I picked this up by mistake due to thinking it was the JP version of Goemon's Great Adventure. It looks like a Mario Party type game.

Goemon's Great Adventure - This game is much loved and more like the other games in the Goemon series. I personally prefer the first title. Too bad about the songs being removed from the US release to save on the cartridge size.

Goldeneye 007 - Imagine not having this game when having friends over to play N64!

Jet Force Gemini - I missed this one when it came out originally. While graphically impressive, the art style is hard for me to stomach. Looking forward to giving this one a try one day.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja - See above. I have a problem with this game where my controller pak save always gets corrupted. I'll have to beat it in one sitting someday.

Mario Kart 64 JP - Did you know that Peach in the JP version does not say "Peachy!" and instead has a more Mario sounding and Engrishy "Let's go!" ? A trade-off I'll take considering the price of the US release. I was better than anyone else I knew at this game for a long time until one day my older cousing hit me with a lightening bolt during the jump on Wario Stadium. He finished the race beating me and walked away. I was pissed! I also sent in a lap time to Nintendo Power and won a gold controller. I wonder where that thing went...

Mario Party 2 JP - Mario Party US releases are hella expensive.

Paper Mario - I believe I ordered this still in the shrink wrap from Amazon several years ago for about $30. Not a huge fan of these games to be honest.

Pilotwings 64 - This sim-lite was what we got to play between Mario 64 sessions. Just thinking about it makes me want to fly around that island at night as Birdman with that sweet porno jazz music.

Resident Evil 2 - FMV on a cart and high res backgrounds with the expansion pak. I honestly forgot that I had this while looking for the PS1 version. I recently played REmake for the first time so this will be how I experience RE2.

Ridge Racer 64 - I think the DS verison of RR, which is a port of this, soured me on this game. I tried the N64 version again last night and it sure feels like a decent RR game to me. Drifting is a little different, but it gives you some options to change that. Looking to dig into this later since I'm a big R4 fan. Speaking of that, visually, the game sure takes a lot of cues from R4 aside from the slick menus and the color palette leaving it a bit messy.

Robotron 64 - I haven't played this recently, but I recall it being a pretty fun remake of the classic arcade game.

San Francisco RUSH - Searching for the hidden keys in the levels by doing stunts is definitely a highlight. I love hitting a small bump at full speed to send your car flying! Also, the best, worst song ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm0Mg0T2Sl0

Snowboard Kids JP - A delightfully charming take on kart racers with cute music, charming visuals and fun gameplay. These days I wonder if parts of it might be more well made than Mario Kart 64. I've got to find the sequel!

Star Fox 64 - The game that introduced the Rumble Pak! Feel power of your G-Diffuser engine in your arwing while you take any branching patch to defeat Andross! This game is well loved for good reason.

Star Fox 64 JP - For those that prefer the japanese audio... or paying about $20 less.

Super Mario 64 - For a long period this was my most wanted game of all time. Nothing compared to the magic of holding that crazy controller for the first time and trying to figure out all of Mario's moves. For a game that truly rocked my worked I haven't gone back to it much outside of the d-pad controlled (eww) DS re-release. I think it's time to experience it all over again.

Super Mario 64 JP w/rumble - I think we've gotten so used to rumble that I didn't feel like this added much to the game. Cooler box art than the original though.

Super Smash Bros. JP - I'm not a smash person, but this is where it all began. Maybe if I start from the beginning of this series I'll end up liking it more?

Tetrisphere - Such a unique take on Tetris that I died almost instantly when I fired it up last night. The same rules do not apply! Great presentation and music / effects.

Wave Race 64 - The most sublime water racing game ever made and my second favorite racing game on the system. Lovely soundtrack too! Follow that dolphin!!!

Wave Race 64 JP w/rumble - Now you can feel the crest of each one of those sparkling, green-blue waves! Remember screenshots of this game when it looked more like Hydro Thunder?

Wonder Project J2 English mod - It's long been a dream of mine to play this in English ever since I saw an article about it in Next Generation magazine....and I don't normally buy repo carts like this, but I had to make the exception this time. The concept of this game is basically you communicate with an android girl via objects and a yes/no/maybe command system. The game has 2D art unlike any game you would have found on a cartridge-based system at the time. I remember the preview I read at the time said that the character asks the player if they believe in God, which sounds silly now, but it was something I couldn't believe back in the day. Also, this game really reminds me of the anime Nadia which I also love.

So that covers my collection so far. Here's a short list of titles I'm currently hunting for:

Beetle Adventure Racing
Space Station Silicon Valley
Turok
KI Gold
Perfect Dark
Zelda OoT (I would love the gold cart!)

Anyway, N64 was super sweet and had enough great games to keep me occupied for a long time. FFVII hype came in and I dumped it all for a Playstation, but now I've got it back and I'll never let it go again!

That's a might fine collection 100mega. For just a little more variety, perhaps expanding your horizons to N64 copies of Animal Crossing and Paper Mario (especially the latter, as that's in English) could be cool. If you can find a copy, Sin & Punishment is a classic too. Otherwise, your library is pretty comprehensive.

Sin and Punishment is definitely on my radar! I do have Paper Mario so maybe I'll give it another whirl someday. I think that the last time I tried Paper Mario I had a mushy analog stick which made it feel irritating to play.

Yeah, just saw it in your list. Sorry about that! Still, definitely give it another shot now that you'll have a functional controller. You might be surprised at how responsive it is!

European users, is UK Ninny website often more glitchy than German one? I don't speak German at all, but I have managed to burst into the 3rd Advent lottery lot on the German website, while I have no idea how to break in this time on the English one and had to take some time and experimentation to manage it on the earlier days.

On my phone I can't get the UK advent calendar lottery to work. I thought that maybe it isn't mobile Safari friendly. I'll try on my computer later.

Anyone have recommendations for a good 3rd party Switch dock?
It really depends on what you're looking for.

This one by Best Buy's in-house brand is reviewed well and has a low profile while also being on sale for $30:

This question may be better answered by the Nintendo Switch community thread, though.

Howdy,

My son got a Switch today. Fired it up and set it up. It was quite painful and it still is showing problems.

The problem? It keeps losing the internet connection. I'm on a AC Wifi mesh system. All of my devices are working flawlessly. Only the Switch is losing the connection. I keep having to go to System Settings and repeatedly connect to my home network. For example, when I put the SD card in, the system prompted me to download a system update. It would simply fail to connect to get the update. It kept saying it cannot resolve DNS.

After multiple reboots, and WiFi resets, I sill had the same problem. In the afternoon the update finally downloaded. Great.

I then tried to set up the parental controls. The Switch kept losing the connection after EVERY action.I kept having to go to the system settings and reconnecting to my home network. And yes I have the auto connect setting turned on.

I still can't connect. Is this a defective unit or are Nintendo servers getting slammed into oblivion today?

Been using Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask speedrun livestreams on Twitch to get to sleep recently. My top three streams for relaxing are the following:

Anyone else into watching N64 Zelda speedruns for relaxation? It's crazy how well it works for me. These streamers also do randomizers sometimes, and those can be a fun way to vary it up for everyone involved.

Yes actually. Speaks volumes about the sound design in tehse games that I just enjoy having them on in the background to hear the noises.

So what is the Nintendo community on ResetEra currently thinking about outside of upcoming Direct presentations? There are plenty of games to play, and not just on the Switch. The 3DS/DS, Game Boy line, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, and Wii U/Wii all have incredible gems on them.

The Direct speculation thread is dying down, so here's another futile attempt at picking this one up. Currently watching a Majora's Mask 100% WR attempt while finishing up stuff for work.

Picked up Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] digitally and have been messing around in that. My cousin's 15th birthday weekend had him come down from Jersey to Florida for Disney, so he stopped by here and played Tropical Freeze co-op and Smash Ultimate.

Nintendo is both directly and indirectly responsible for pretty much every social and even professional connection I have in life at the moment. Causality is weird.

I still want Gnosia to come to the Switch in English. The Vita and Japanese exclusivity belies how high quality the artwork and interface seem to be.

Gnosia releasing April 30th, 2020 on Nintendo Switch in Japan

https://globule.info/gnosia/ This previously PlayStation Vita exclusive game got a 10/10 from IGN Japan and features beautiful and unique art.
At least the Switch port's done. Now we need an English translation.
Have there been any updates on the Retron Ultra? My N64 started constantly resetting itself.
Nothing yet. COVID-19 is definitely going to delay it further. Any updates will be on Hyperkin's Twitter.

Hello, all. I have a question regarding the Switch.

If I powered the Switch off while docked, meaning manually holding down the power button and selecting "Power Off" while docked, and then powering it on while holding the power button, regularly, is this harmful in anyway to the console?

Basically, can powering the console on and off manually while docked mess anything up?

I have to keep that top vent covered to combat dust, and can only cover the top vent if it's completely off, as the fan is on even in sleep mode.

Would really appreciate some feedback, dust is the worst and I'd like to keep the console as dust free as possible, but don't want to mess up the Switch.

Thank you again.

I don't think what you're doing is going to harm the Switch in any way. Is your Switch in a particularly dusty environment? The only negatives I can think of is that you'll miss out on software updates/downloads because the Switch doesn't have an Internet connection when fully powered off.

For me, I'm not so worried. I use a launch day Switch which I only ever put into sleep mode and stays docked overnight. I never fully power off. Over the 3+ years it's been fine.

Since this is technically the Nintendo "general" thread on Era, here's a question:

With the company's mobile efforts seemingly waning in light of the Switch's success, what does a hypothetical future platform for Nintendo look like if it doesn't share the Switch's runaway success?

Is the backup plan to supplement it with character and intellectual property revenue from merchandising, movies, and theme parks, or will the need for a second platform or additional avenue for income arise?
