And it was "only" six years (well, five years and four-sh months) between Skyward Sword and BotW. HD growing pains was probably a lot of it, but even then there was a five year gap between Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, a four year gap between The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Everyone's favorite example of MM following OoT counts for something, but at this point that game was being developed over twenty years ago. It's possible Nintendo announces a 3D Zelda next year, but releasing it in 2020 is something that should be met with skepticism. Even if they slap a release window on it at announcement.
3 years on a game is pretty average for a AAA sequel. If all they are doing is using BOTW as a base, making a new area and story, maybe a couple of new mechanics and refinements, 3 years is about what I would expect.

That's a lot of ifs and maybes. Considering the last time the team did this was 20 years ago people are probably getting a little ahead of themselves thinking this is what they're doing.

So are we 100% for a direct this week? We have had kingzell definitively say it. liam seems to be teasing it with that reset the clock gif. and the person i know from NoA said "this week" too. It feels guaranteed for me, but I have this nagging pessimism right now. Ugh.

I just really hope they go ham on events and stuff in Gen 8. I REALLY miss the way legendary Pokemon and special event Pokemon were handled back in the days of Gen 3 and 4.

We should expect to see a Shin Megami Tensei gameplay video on this direct?
Very very small chance, if that, the game is a 2020 title at best, likely 2021. Both IV and IVA took 3-3.5 years to develop and this started development around Jan 2017 best we can tell and last we heard went into full development around last Feb. Add to it this is an HD console game and not a handheld title so take that as you will. Maybe it will come out sooner, but that would be super surprising so best to expect the worst.

Why are you doubting someone you know from NoA? Lol you should be the most optimistic

Also John Harker agreed with February 13th is a Direct and he's never been wrong on his inside info.

Give the gen 2 starters megas

And give us mega weavile
FREAKING THIS!!!! I want my Mega Typhlosion! But nooooo only Gen 1 and 3 got that luck......
Unless we start seeing some evidence to the contrary at the start of the next gen, Megas are pretty much freakin' done. Z-Moves pretty much supplanted the power side of Megas and have a lot more versatility and regional forms took over the "reinvigorating past Pokemon" part without locking Mons out of evolutions. Maybe Gen 8 will use a new version of this but there's not much looking for Megas either way.

If you really know someone from NoA who told you the Direct is this week, you of all people should have more faith than the rest of us.

I remember back in... 2012, methinks, before ALBW, there was a Direct where Eiji Aonuma spoke of taking the Zelda series in a different direction, and everything has pretty much happened since then — the nonlinear progression, etc — EXCEPT the multiplayer aspect.

Well, unless Tri Force Heroes counts as that, but probably not, since Four Swords Adventures preceded Tri Force Heroes.

Where I'm going with this is, I wonder if the follow-up to BotW will have a multiplayer focus. In fact, they could make a fresh new experience quickly reusing old assets if they turn it into a multiplayer game. I wouldn't mind running around BotW's Hyrule with other people. :-O

I think the 2D Zelda on Switch will have multiplayer, they don't wanna take their biggest single player adventure series (3D Zelda) and turn it multiplayer I would think. BotW's reception was too good. Meanwhile 2D Zelda already has a history of incorporating MP.

Lmao. Are you for real..
No need to be rude. Even if something is flat out in my face I can still face anxiety about the worst happening. I've been wanting a direct so badly lately that even with somebody from NoA literally telling me there's one this week I'm still stressed out. I guess I should hold my head up higher most of all, but there's always that pessimism in the back of my head. Ugh.

Thank you so much. I really love this song. It helps a bunch!! :)

No offense intended whatsoever here, but a focus on multiplayer is just about the only thing that could significantly decrease my hype levels for a BOTW successor.

Actually yeah, the rumored 2D Zelda for Switch would be a good opportunity for multiplayer, since you can play 2D Zelda with a single Joy-Con and the Switch has two Joy-Cons right out of the box, which is perfect for local co-op.

I actually think a 2D Zelda designed around two-player co-op would not only be more practical (easier to find one person than two or three), but it would also be a tighter gameplay experience in single-player as well, since you'd only be managing one AI character.

After a certain point, I think they might just be better off making a Zelda MMO.

Yeah I completely agree, an adventure tailored to 2 players would be the best way to balance SP and MP.

They could always have a separate mode that incorporates a higher amount of players too
