Some people don't care about Smash and Mario Maker. It's like telling someone who likes Baseball that they should be happy in the off season because there is football and basketball.

Well if you like neither of those things then there isn't a whole lot
I almost shouldn't respond since this post doesn't make sense lol.

but ok.
As I said in my post, a lot of stuff has already been announced this year. And more will be announced soon.
not that confusing.

All I'm saying is that aside from Astral Chain there hasn't been much that I've been excited about. I don't think saying we are announcing lots of things it's your fault if you don't like them is a helpful attitude.

Especially since year 1 the switch was marketed as a AAA portable and now it's just for Childern and Mario games. It's a bit of a bait and switch

Do you know what I really hope happens? Octopath Traveler 2, I loved the first one so much, it's become one of my favourite Switch games and my favourite new IP of the generation.

I just shut it off for the night. I've been playing for around seven weeks or so now and I have clocked over 110 hours with it. I have a couple more third-chapter episodes to go and then it's on to Chapter 4.

I love it, warts and all. An Oc2path announcement would make for a very happy Quinton.

It's ok you're allowed to have your opinion.

It's fine not to be content with the game output on Switch at the moment, there is a lot of eShop crud, full-price Wii U ports, ports of 7+ year old games we have already played to death, Smash Bros (I'm not a big fan either) and the biggest collection of anime games ever released since the vita.

Nintendo can only output so much themselves (excl. Wii U ports), and I'm sure they've done whatever they feel necessary to entice third parties but for some reason they just aren't biting.

Looks like we might've lost the Monolith Soft new IP. It looks like it's just them making a Zelda game in conjunction with Nintendo. Idk if it turned into a Zelda game or was alway planned to be one.

To be honest I'm less bothered by the lack of 3rd parties and more about the lack of AAA Nintendo releases. Nintendo tends to focus on a lack of overt violence and positive vibes and I like that, it's a great contrast to the rest of the industry. So when Nintendo isn't outputting their own AAA level games there is literally no equivalent titles elsewhere.

I wish they would expand and tighten up their process so they could release more games in a more diverse set of genres

Wait, where did this idea come from?
The Monolith recruiting for Zelda topic. They got rid of the IP that said they were hiring for a new Fantasy game or something. You can read the topic.

It looks like that was never going to be a new IP and just a Zelda game from the start or it was a new IP and turned into a Zelda game.

This isn't true. They never explicitly stated that it was a new IP. The new IP thing was based on a misunderstanding by duckroll (ironic, I know) at NeoGAF.

Would be cool to get a huge open world Zelda with multiple character parties like the Xenoblade games. A Zelda game with a fleshed out story, that could be interesting.

Why would they leave up the "fantasy project" hiring page?

Well that's um, something. That concept art looked neat, but at least we do have confirmation that Zelda is coming. I am curious about how this will turn out (if they are working on this alone, or if they are hiring to assist the EPD Zelda team)

doesn't liam usually speak about nintendo stuff only?

Nope ... his work on unreleased games goes everywhere from capcom to dead western studios.

This 4chan fanfiction "leak" gained some traction on the Mario Maker subreddit for some reason. It's definitely not real, but I like the way the writer thinks.

That is the perfect type of fake ... it gets pretty normal and it keeps getting crazy as it progresses, while still sprinkled with possible stuff to ground you.

...but Banzai Bills already appeared in the Mario Maker 2 trailer =/

But I loved the ending xD

Or they working on its own projects but also working on Zelda in same time, same like done with Zelda BotW,
they now having like 3 different teams.

Where the hell is Spyro Collection? Wasn't it leaked through a German retailer for a August release? Now that could be a cool PAX announcement.

It has been shown in so much places part of me think they LEGIT forgot to announce it. Like someone was supposed to put the switch icon in the trailer and they were like "ok we have to do it later" and they never did because other things happened.

Untitled Goose Game, now called "Titled Goose Game"
LOL that almost made it believable...

But yeah it screams so fake, I don't think we ever had a true leak that had so many details especially on the presentation part. I think the biggest mistake is to say to write so many information.

There's definitely confusion on this Zelda game and Nintendo's and Monoliths involvement.

It appears Monolith has a bigger hand in the development compared to past previous games. I think they're the lead developer. Then it begs the question if it's the next mainline title or a spin-off? What's the 3D Zelda team doing?

One answered question leads to more questions lol.

Yeah, this is confusing. The job listings make it sound like Monolithsoft might be leading development but what does that mean for their other projects? Xenoblade will probably remain unaffected but what about their Action RPG? Is it cancelled? Was it turned into Zelda? Was it Zelda from the beginning?

There are many possibilities but if I were to dare a guess, I'd say that this is going to be a "Majora's Mask"-style mainline entry that reuses a lot of the work that was done for BotW and puts its own spin on it. I don't think they would put Monolith in charge otherwise.

I would agree they (Nintendo) decided to let Monolith Soft do a "Majoras Mask" game. They proved themselves and they've worked on a couple of Zelda games. They trust Takahashi. I don't think there ever was a new IP. I honestly think what we believed to be was a new IP was this Zelda game all along.

Because they always had their main Xenoblade team. They created a 2nd development team. Xenoblade team is fine and doing their own thing.

Let's pretend this is a mainline 3D Zelda game being done by Monolith Soft, then what's the 3D Zelda team doing at Nintendo? Are they making Aonuma's new IP that Nintendo asked him to make?

Look at this concept art Monolith Soft put up when they announced they were working on a 2nd game (the one we assumed was a new IP).

If it wasn't for us thinking this was a new IP, I could see thinking this was Zelda. The more I look at it the more I see her lol.

It's unfortunate if Monolith may not have been working on a new IP. Hopefully, it could mean that the Zelda team is. It would be a shame if BOTW's engine was used "just" for the Zelda franchise.

Somehow I missed this. So they're still hiring for what we thought was a new IP still?
I thought that people would have checked something like this before jumping to conclusions, lol.

For reference, the URLs for the three recruitment posts name them as:
  • Production 01 - Xenoblade Team's next game
  • Production 02 - Zelda
  • Special - The "New IP"
Make of that as you will.

idk. But at least hiring page is still there.
The problem is that these two hiring page are exactly the same"Job List".
That does make this pretty strange. Why leave the old recruitment open if the new one is looking for the exact same roles? I guess we'll be waiting awhile for an answer though.

They're not specialized jobs, it's always possible they're hiring foe both projects. Not only that, Monolith keeps up their website, if something is outdated, it's removed. The special recruitment page is still there, meaning that it's still relevant even with the Zelda listing

What if they're not hiring for the new IP anymore? Could they have everyone they need and now they're at a point where they can help Nintendo so they put up more positions for the second dev team.

Sorry that's probably confusing as I am confused on this whole situation lol.

Yeah this basically. This second dev team is just getting a bunch more hires in general for their new IP and to help Nintendo with Zelda. The second team is the one who will help Nintendo. These hires mention Zelda because it's obviously the big IP and attracts employees. Either way all the people in the second team are shared around with a new game or helping Nintendo.

Yeah, this is the reason why I am not completely on the "second game = Zelda" train, despite the job listings being the same. I mean, they constantly update the number of employees at the company, it would be kind of a huge oversight to muck this up.

At the same time, these projects must be at wildly different stages of development or the "special" game is smaller. Otherwise I can't see how a company of ~200 people can work on three (presumably) big projects at the same time, even taking outsourcing into account.

I'm not sure where you're getting this opinion from. 2017 had Zelda, XBC2 and FEW as games aimed at the AAA portable hard-core audience, and the rest of the IP were kid-friendly (Splatoon 2, SMO, MK8D, M+R). 2019 has Fire Emblem and Astral Chain from a first party perspective, along with the remake of Link's Awakening.

In terms of 3rd party, I'd say the offering for that "AAA portable" audience is better than 2017:2017 had some fighters, a JRPG her and there, and DOOM 2016, while 2019 has MK11, DOOM Eternal, Wolfrnstein Youngblood alongside a lot of ports of major JRPGs (Dragon's Dogma, FFX/X-2, FFXII, Tales of Vesperia). And we're comparing current 2019 slate with hindsight 2017. Only a fraction of the games that you claim are supposedly baiting and switching the audience were announced until August/September.

Tbf Monolith Soft is the company that put out Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with only 40 some people from internal. They have 193 people now and hiring more. I don't think it's impossible for them to work on 3 games if they could do only 40 some (internally) on XC2.

It's playable at PAX. I'm guessing we'll hear assume news about Switch version there. Maybe a Nintendo guest character? I'd love Pious Augustus making an appearance in Mortal Kombat.

About the Action RPG/Zelda thing.

1) In 2017 job postings included most of the same ones as the Zelda page.
Why would they need the exact same jobs 2 years later for the same game IF the Arpg was Zelda all along.

2) Monolithsoft said on the page of this Arpg that it was supposed to be far away from Xeno, making people assume it would obviously be a new IP.

Conclusion :
- Either it was indeed a Zelda (or they added the brand on it mid-dev) BUT it's Monolithsoft's Zelda, not "Nintendo's"
(but point 1 makes it a bit weird, except if it's normal for a game to need twice in 2 years most of the same job positions).
- Or Zelda is a third project and we still need to know how involved they are as well as what is the Arpg exactly.

Sure but Takahashi cited the experience on BotW as a reason for why they've expanding this rapidly. I'd find it weird if they went on to three large projects side-by-side after that.

If "Fantasy game" and "Zelda" were the same then it would mean that they have not found anyone to fill those positions in all this time.

It would be weird.

Probably already known but just in case I'll add that 100% of these are for Tôkyô.
Barely any recruitement for Kyôto.

Still I really hope they will never have to do that again.
Xenoblade 2 is the least balanced out of the 3 with so many bugs, technical issues and design problems.

However, if they had the manpower to make a Xenoblade (X please), the Arpg and a Zelda, I wouldn't say know.
Just no Xenoblade 2 again for me please.

When you guys say Monolith Soft is working on Zelda do you mean their own full fledged title or they're just assisting Nintendo with Zelda?

Someone posted in the other topic Nintendo had the same positions too. It just makes me feel like it's a "we're in full production on 3D Zelda so let's hire some more people at Monolith to continuing helping us". It doesn't help we assumed Monolith was working on an Action RPG, which some consider Zelda to be now.

From what it seems (for now) it is their Zelda.
Just because it's presented the same as the 2 other projects.
So it's still completely unknown, but... possible.

It could just very well be a recruitement for "the part" of the next main Zelda their working on, whatever it is.
Definitely seems like they're having a bigger part at least (if not their own entire project).

Only thing I feel here is that this E3 might destroy 2017 and 2018 combined so hard...
