This is pretty much where I'm at, just add another Mario Spin off. Either Party or a Sports game, one of them seems likely for 2020.

Since no one includes it on their prediction lists, it's hard to gauge when people think the Famicom Detective Club remakes will release. I've seen some assume that both games will release together, but since both are listed individually on Nintendo's Japanese website, it's possible that there could be a gap between them.

Retro certainly is an unfortunate studio to watch from the outside.

This is also causing some sky high expectations for a sequel. So many folks, myself included, probably see a number of changes as "no-brainer" moves, but a more typical Nintendo might decide to focus on other things. For instance I kind of wouldn't be surprised if "traditional dungeons" are gone once again, and they double down on refining shrine-like micro dungeons.
This isn't going to shock me. In fact I don't expect traditional dungeons at all. We are never going back to the lock and key one-item-fits-all dungeons.

Now more stuff like Hyrule castle but with more puzzles? I can see.

Here are my predictions :

Q2
- Super Mario Odyssey 2

That's bold. I like bold =)

My list:

Q1

- Brain Training
- Tokyo Mirage Session #FE Encore
- A bunch of new SNES games
- Shadow dropped E-shop game.
- Animal Crossing
- MK8DX DLC

Q2

- No More Heroes 3
- Xenoblade Chronicles DE
- Mario Golf or Punch Out
- Another Nintendo published Square game, possiblu Bravely Default and/or Bravely Second

Q3

- E-shop title
- Pikmin 3 DX
- Ubisoft exclusive (Not Mario Rabbids 2)
- Kid Icarus something
- Kirby game
- Metroid 5
- E-shop game

Q4

- Bravely Default 2
- Botw Sequel
- Metroid Prime Trilogy
- Bayonetta 3
- Super Mario Party 2

I also think we're gonna see Halo in Q1 but as it's not Nintendo published or exclusive I didnt list it ;P I'm also crazy enough to expect two Metroid games next year and with a super stacked H2 to just make sure that Nintendo is on everyones mind even when Xbox and PS5 launches. Sadly this means another slowish first half of the year..

BotW2 will be improved, but it won't be BotW + everything you ever wanted.

There will be controversial elements introduced just because Nintendo is like that. Aside from Galaxy 2, their motto for sequels has never been "same thing but better." They always like to try out interesting new mechanics and systems. They've done it for every single Zelda, and people have either loved or hated it. It will be the same with BotW2.

We will also not get traditional dungeons. I'm almost certain of that. We can get bigger and themed dungeons, but they will not be like the older ones level design wise.

How so? Based on the development teams that have been MIA this year and last in addition to inside sources and confirmations, that list is almost logical to a fault.
Its a realistic list actually even though Nintendo is unpredictable and they could have a completely different plan. It doesn't read like a wish list to me.

That's four ten-million-sellers in Animal Crossing, Super Mario Odyssey 2, BOTW2, and Switch Sports. Doubt that happens. Super Mario Odyssey would probably be a holiday title (I would love to be proven wrong though), so MAYBE I'd Switch Paper Mario and Odyssey 2, but then Odyssey 2 would come out right as BOTW2 is hitting it's stride (or coming out a few weeks later). I kinda doubt we see both in 2020, and especially that close. I don't see a Splatoon spinoff coming in 2020 at all, and Tomodachi Life is too similar to Animal Crossing from what I've heard. After this list, what is left for 2021? It seems a bit unrealistic.

Switch Sports won't be a 10m seller lol. Especially if 1-2 Switch was only a 3m one and was one of the only available games at launch. This isn't the Wii

1-2 Switch is completely different. That's a small set of minigames, this is sports. Wii Sports was a favorite for a lot of Wii-owners, and they'd probably get a Switch if the console got a improved version of it.

Everyone is doing their first party lists, I should do a third party one instead:
We already know what the Q1 looks like, so I'll do the rest:

April: Trials of Mana, Naruto UNS 4, Metro Redux, Streets of Rage 4, Spongebob Rehydrated

May: Code Vein, Star Ocean 2-3-4, Outer Wilds, XIII

June: Doom Eternal, Deadly Premonition 2, Star Wars Force Unleashed I-II, Digimon Survive

July: DMC4SE, DmC (same day), Assassin's Creed Ezio (or Unity, there seems to be a reason why Ezio collection skipped), Biomutant

August: Battletoads, SAO Alicization Lyricois, Saints Row 4, Destroy All Humans, Lego Star Wars

September: Megaman X9, Stellaris (shadow drop), Ys IX Monstrum Nox, No Man's Sky, Tony Hawk's Underground HD, Mafia II remaster, Dirt 4

October: Dead Rising 1-2, Watch Dogs Legion (I think this is Virtuos' next game), Yokai Watch 4, Persona 5 Scramble, Digimon Story, A Plague Tale, Sega Dreamcast Collection

November: No more Heroes III, Monster Hunter Generations 2, Overwatch 2, Crash Bandicoot 4, Alan Wake Remastered, Naruto Shinobi Striker, Super Monkey Ball 1-2 HD

December: Deathloop, Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor (Feral port), Republic Commando HD, King of Fighters 15, Rune Factory 5

I think Bravely Default 2 will be delayed to 2021, because, Square-Enix.

I've said before I expect different gameplay. This is where I expect the biggest change from and I do expect atleast a few traditional dungeons. I think Nintendo will listen.

The gameplay will change with the green glow taking over Links arm. There won't be a Sheikah Slate magic anymore. But the world I expect big changes. I'm sorry this is a direct sequel to BotW. Open air and exploration is important.

This isn't Wind Waker to TP to Skyward Sword. Also you could say BotW was a response to Nintendo fans. Nintendo is listening more during Switch era.

In that case, how are you expecting the games to be released (in Japan, for now)? Two separate physical releases? Two digital releases at first with a physical collection released the same day as Part II? No physical release at all?

I was wondering when you'd pop in with third-party predictions

I'll think of some later, third parties are hard to predict

Overwatch 2 will most likely be a 2021 game, still seemed early in development from the Blizzcon showing

Huh. What are the chances that Watch Dogs Legion actually comes over to the Switch? Also, a small critique. I think that if Alan Wake Remastered comes next year, it'll be an October release (it is a horror story, after all).

This only makes sense assuming Switch Sports sells that much, which it very well might not. We had at least 3 "10 million sellers" every year so far, so 3 more plus one "maybe" is hardly a stretch. You can have an opinion on the Splatoon spin off, but that's not an argument against it to the point of it being "unrealistic." And the original Tomodachi was about half a year away from Animal Crossing.

Those are the only three flaws you point out in the list so I don't the logic in 3 out of nearly 20 games somehow transforming it from realistic to "wishlist" territory.

Personally though, I could see it argued that swapping Switch Sports with a Mario Sports, Tomodachi with a new IP, and Splatoon's slot going to a spin off of any one of Nintendo's first party IPs.

My expectation is two separate physical releases. At least for Japan, I'm not expecting it to be a digital only title. The games are beloved classics there, so I think they'll both be physical.

Virtuos has recently said they had been receiving port requests from partner companies and some of the beloved franchises will have exclusive Switch versions in the future. Virtuos have worked with Ubisoft Toronto before, makers of Watch Dogs Legion, with Starlink. And I can imagine, it could have some nice Switch exclusive features, like Nintendo themed masks and costumes etc.

And yes, you're right, maybe Alan Wake is more suitable for October release.

Where are all these people at? I look at the votes and it's over 300, yet like 80% of those people never post here? How do you just lurk all the time and never contribute with posts? Do you seriously never have anything to say about Nintendo and directs?

I guess they're busy playing games on their Switches, rather than debating what's coming out in the future here :p

Mario Kart 9, Splatoon 4 Pokemon and the biggest of them all MP4 and of course Pikmin 4 and a new Srar Fox. Seriously though Nintendo has lots of IP and ideas to have a fully fleshed out release schedule now that they have a single platform. Its not the same as when they had 2 platforms to support anymore.

Nintendo sold what, like 119 million copies of software in 2018 so having a huge amount of 10 million sellers is a pretty normal thing especially going into year 4.

Market research has led me to believe that this list would be more to certain people's liking.

Q1:
  • Dr Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch
  • Nintendo Online Puzzle Collection (eShop Title #1)
  • Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Q2:
  • Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir (JP)
  • Pikmin 3 Deluxe
  • Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
  • Super Mario Odyssey 2
Q3:
  • Kirby
  • Bravely Default II
  • 2D Metroid
  • eShop Title #2
  • Bayonetta 3
  • Paper Mario
Q4:
  • Famicom Detective Club: The Girl in the Back (JP)
  • Wii Sports Successor
  • Pokémon (DP Remakes or a spin-off; the series isn't missing 2020)
  • Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I dunno, maybe throw in a Mario spin-off and another EPD title; don't know where though.

Mario/Smash Kart, Splatoon 3, new mainline Pokemon, Mario Party if it skips 2020, some other Mario spin off, a casual game like Nintendogs, or bump one or two of the games from that list to 2021. Just spit balling of course, but I think it's fair to say even if you disagree with that list, most if not all of those will be out by 2021 in some capacity and I don't see any scenario in which Nintendo runs out of top selling content by their fourth year.

One thing a lot of people seem to forget is Detective Pikachu 2. Clearly not a console seller, but I could see that being next year's Pokemon game if DP is instead a 2021 release.

Oh, yeah of course I see all that by 2021. Just not all at once. Also, I believe Pokemon will be out in 2022 on a normal three year development cycle, and Splatoon 3 is probably going to be a Switch 2 title. Mario Kart though..... Maybe.
