Reminder, Gal Gun 2 released today, playing while on the exercise bike

paBQXnb.gif

I watched the trailer for that game today. Holy crap... I'm glad my kids don't ever think to access the eShop and watch trailers. I would NOT want my kids watching this, WTF.

Parents of young children beware, put a parental lock on your kids accessing the eShops. I mean not just for this game, but there are other M rated games that they can watch freely and may not want them to. This is the first game I've ever been surprised by watching. The game icon looks cartoon/innocent enough, I wouldn't have thought this is a freaking video game about looking up cartoon girl's skirts.

Some Shantae: Half Genie Hero Ultimate Edition for Switch footage. First clip is from the new Beach mode and second clip is from Officer Mode (basically Mighty Switch Force).

It seems Death Road to Canada's launch has been postponed due to what happened in Toronto.

https://www.reddit.com/r/deathroadt...ath_road_to_canada_console_release_postponed/

I guess "Death Road to Canada" is not exactly the most tasteful name for a game coming out just a few days after this incident, but the game *is* already out on Steam and mobile.

Oh lordy... hopefully only a minor delay of a week or two, otherwise this is just dumb. Isn't the game just about Zombies anyway? Seems the only thing wrong with it is the name alone, unless there's some driving involved that would come off as insensitive, which would make a lot more sense for the delay. A lot of people seemed to look forward to it. (and I was interested in checking it out myself if reviews were good as my Steam friends like it)

EDIT: OK, learned there's driving events in game. Makes a LOT more sense now and I totally get the delay for North America now, but I still think Europe could get the game no problem.
May 15th :(

Three weeks feels a bit excessive but there's other stuff to play. Definitely my most hype release this week, though, so that's a shame.

I totally understand, but it's still a shame. Was really looking forward to this. Actually it's probably the only Switch title in the immediate future I was bothered about, with the Dark Souls remaster being delayed indefinitely.

I've got to say, little bit disappointed with the Switch this year. After a wonderful first year, we really seem to have lost steam.
I swear, it's like people have never owned a new console before, let alone a new NINTENDO console.

Nintendo really spoiled everyone with a ridiculously stacked first year and set an urealistic expectation that it would always be like that.

Personally, I've been quite content just playing all the great indies and Psikyo shooters. Looking forward to the new World Ends With You Remaster And Mario Tennis Aces is one of my most hype releases of the year.

Although, full disclosure, I also have a PS4 and am waist-deep in the incredible God of War and recently just played through Nier Automata and Assassin's Creed Origins... and I have Horizon on the backburner...

I.

I was looking forward to this since it's like a birthday release. I understand why they did it, but that May 15th release pretty much jepordizes my purchase given both my limited funds and the fact that stuff is coming out.

Well, as I said, the game is $8 on the Mexican eShop.

Personally, I think it's a must-buy game.

But I think I'm gonna pick up A Robot Named Fight and Sky Rogue in the meantime.

I played it a bit today, it's fairly "harmless". There's no nudity, swearing, or heads lopping off, or traditional guns even. It's cutesy, and goofy, but it's not like there's softcover or hardcore porn in the game. I understand certainly not wanting kids popping around watching anything without parents around, but I'd imagine most cable, web videos, or films have far more adult themes.

Funny to juxtapose this against the God of War thread from last week where a user decided to play through the game with his nine year old son.

I think there's some big differences.

First of all, I certainly would NOT play God of War with my 9 year old, that's absurd. But even so, the context for the violence in that game, most of which is against fantasy creatures, monsters, is always in self-defense (with the exception of the few occasions of animal hunting, which is also given proper context). Even the motivation for the quest is quite peaceful compared to the angry vengeance and bloodlust driving the previous God of War games.

With GalGun, while the game may seem fairly harmless because of the lack of nudity and sex, it's the context that makes the game fucked up. It's not a a healthy view of women in its perverse objectification and it's not a healthy view of sex.

The message of (this) God of War is a lot more benign than the message of GalGun. That can often be a lot more important when it comes to effecting the mind of a kid.

I don't think either game is prescribable for children to consume or take part of. They both seem like pretty vapid experiences to me so far.

Most of gaming is often that, an escapist form of entertainment that can sometimes warp a person away from the painful doldrums of reality. Sometimes it holds more weight than that. Either way, if a person finds escapism, joy, whatever it is they're wishing for, good on them. If they want cheap sexual thrills, or to bash up monsters, shoot caps into people's asses, that's all subjective as to what they gain from that experience.

I will say I do find it very peculiar that games never really engage sexuality as a form of narrative, engagement, or just visceral experience. I'd prefer people consume more sexual based themes in media, than violent and aggressive themes. Both are definitely a balance to the human animal, but one is entirely accepted in the western world, and the other seems taboo.

Have you been playing the new God of War?

While I'd happily describe the previous games as vapid and juvenile I am finding the new game to be surprisingly thoughtful and nuanced and much more mature (and by mature I don't mean the content justifying the rating so much as in its sensibilities).

I picked up the ultra duper pooper, I think Mason's Edition? Whatever the highest level of crap was, I gotta stop buying these dumb things, and just buy the games themselves. I'm finding the presentation style not as crisp or nicely written as Uncharted 4, which was the first Uncharted I didn't even finish.... The combat isn't clicking or intriguing for me, and I'm not finding the meandering nature of the areas and set pieces very compelling or novel. I'd love to love this game, given the expectations of the production, the high level of cash I invested, the new direction/tone of the series, but this is feeling not very fun for me so far.

I guess for me, I'm finding parts of this game done much better prior, as in the Last of Us, (Unenthusiastic parent angle) and Uncharted 4 (Pretty damn excellent/best in the business character style/motion capture) . Combat wise, Nioh was my favorite game of last year, and this doesn't feel in the same realm of snappiness, depth, or just pure fun.

Maybe the reason I'm loving the game so much is because I had zero hype for it prior to release. I was always impressed by what I saw but never felt very excited.

I didn't play Uncharted 4 but I did play Lost Legacy and while that game was very good this game is much better. I couldn't get into Horizon, I need to go back to it. GoW grabbed me from the start and hasn't let go, it just gets better the more it opens up.

The other possible reason the game has been delivering for me is the fact that the game I was playing before GoW released was Nier Automata, a game I'm finding to be extremely flawed and janky and absolutely hideous.

So I decided to revisit The End is Nigh after not having played it much. It's great! Just getting through the levels is already a blast, but then you have the collectible tumors that require skillfull jumping or good observation.

And then there are the future/past levels and the cartridges that really push you further. I just finished my first cartridge after 45 minutes of trying. You basically have to run through 8 screens without dying as there are no checkpoints. I couldn't stop playing that until I finally made it. Delicious.

I guess it's highly similar to Celeste in its basic structure (or I might as well refer to Super Meat Boy, although that game had discrete levels): just going through the worlds is pretty doable, the tumors/strawberries offer some extra challenge and the extra content is really hard and will murder you over and over again. Oh, and the extra content isn't just locked away in post-game content, which is always a big plus, as you don't have to play for hours to get some really challenging stuff thrown your way.

The End is Nigh is fantastic! In fact, it like it way better than Super Meat Boy. I think it should be getting more praise, but there's not much talk about it around here sadly…

My german PayPal-Account works fine in the south african and norwegian eshop. For the russian eshop, in my opinion, you will need a credit card or a russia PayPal-Account.

Nope, works fine with EU cc/PP accounts.
Problem is with MXN/JPN/USA/CND eShops

South Park is €45 on the RUS shop.
I got a physical copy from Amazon.es since it was €44 shipped and now I'm happy since the awful loading times might make me regret the purchase and sell it down the line

FYI if you have South Park there is a free DLC on the eshop that gives you some currency, an outfit and some items.

Have you played it yet? I was reading reviews that mentioned long load times, and I didn't encounter anything horrible at all, in just under two hours of playtime so far.

Capcom is doing a Golden Week sale in Japan. Monster Hunter XX, Street Fighter 2, and both Resident Evil Revelations are all 33% off. Bought MHXX myself, my first MonHun game. I can read japanese fluidly at least but I already feel this will be a mountain to climb, heh.

You wound me. Automata isn't quite as groundbreaking and intimate as NieR 1 but it's one of the best games released in the last few years. The music and themes are top shelf. I haven't played GoW but I can't fathom it being a better experience.

Anyway, looking forward to Korg, Sky Rogue, and A Robot Named Fight! tomorrow. Gonna be a fun day.

This isn't the place to have this discussion but I'll just say that you should play God of War.

Nier Automata has many technical and design issues, though, and the best thing about it is the prologue.

That's always annoying. Happened to me with Bayonetta 2 on Wii U at Target. So close, yet so far...

Has anyone played it on Switch yet? I refuse to pay $40 for a digital copy of a game that's $30 elsewhere and so late that other platforms have already put it on sale for less than $15, but I will pick it up on sale if the performance is good since I'd still prefer to play on Switch.

If they didn't have it in their game case 3 weeks early I wouldn't be willing to pay $40 for it either. It's $25 to preorder from Walmart.

I have some questions for people who are disappointed by the releases for Switch so far this year.

First, let me preface by asking if the year in question begins on January 1st or the Switch launch anniversary. That's an important distinction because if it's the former that would make more sense but seems a bit unfair given that the Switch missed the first 3 months of last year and really packed in all their big hitters over 9 months. If the latter, that's ridiculous because Year 2 of the Switch is just getting started and Nintendo doesn't *usually* announce games well in advance, I imagine the back half of this year wil be packed and we'll just have to wait til E3 to confirm it.

Now, on to my REAL questions:

Are you disappointed because:

A) there's a lot of ports and you already own them on other systems

B) you have very specific tastes and the games released thus far aren't to your liking

C) indies, or at least these indies, either don't appeal to you or don't count in your mind because they aren't big AA-AAA releases

D) all of the above

Because

A) the ports we are getting of the bigger games are good-great and new to a lot of Switch owners or made more appealing by the Switch's portability

B) you can't expect so many specific kinds of games for a new system, development takes time and third party support is going to come late since no one wanted to take risks until the Switch proved itself

C) that's a shame because there's been a whole of of fantadtic indie games releasing on Switch, both old and new, since launch and it hasn't let up. Many provide wonderful, rich, inventive experiences for a fraction of the cost of the retail stuff.

D) you're imppssibly hard to please. This is a system that has only been out for 13 months or so. Development takes time and I think Nintendo set an unrealistic precedent by front-loading the first year with so many bangers. No console i recent memory has had a launch year on that level. A lull in year 2 is expected, as most year 1 schedule would be fairly barren by comparison.

Personally, even as someone who owns a PS4, a Vita, a 3DS and a Wii U, my wishlist for Switch is huge. There's even a lot of ports and indies I've yet to play on other systems that I'll pick up on Switch.

Now, granted, I've only had my Switch since November. I'm sure the situation worse for people who have had a Switch for longer and/or happen to own the ports already elsewhere. Bad luck. But you can't be unreasonable, and if you own these ports elsewhere then surely you must have other consoles to play with their own games to keep you busy ;-)

Now for my anecdotal evidence:

Aside from older ports being priced higher & some performance issues, I'm not disappointed at all.

I don't have a huge list, say about 16x titles, but it is curious to me... those that have a large collection of games- are you completists? Collectors?

Further, I know a few coworkers whom simply buy-test their games & don't run them again. I'm the complete opposite hahahaa...

Are we happy with the titles in our Switch library?

So pumped for A Robot Named Fight! In theory it should be terrible, as Metroid-esque games live and die by its level design, IMO, and this being procedurally generated puzzled me at first, but I dunno, it looks so solid and people who've played it seem to like it a lot.

One out of many games, that's a positive ratio! Tiny Metal surprised me; I thought it was going to be a real gem. :/
It feels like an Alpha build. Can't believe they charged $25 for it. I actually picked it up for $11 on Mexican eShop and I still feel like I payed too much.

you either imported them from another region or your account is set to a different region that where the games are from, should be pretty straightforward, no?

I have a list of over 100 games now, but we have skipped many bigger releases (no Xenoblade 2, no Kirby, no Warriors games from KT, very little Wii U-game double dipping) the last half year to focus mainly on smaller eShop games. The shorter play time, diversity of game categories and the gameplay-first focus of indies suits us well. Also, some of the games are played mainly by other family members (like Escapist 2, which has been played a lot here, but not a lot by me).
And among our games, there are quite a few local multiplayer games that we boot up just for a quick party match (Golf Story and Floor Kids have now moved to that category).

Personally, I complete more indies on the Switch than I have ever done on Steam.

Are we happy with the titles in our Switch library?

I've had a Switch for six months or so now. So far I've picked up:

Steamworld Heist
Steamworld Dig 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Mario Kart 8
Wulverblade
The Mummy Demastered
Zelda BoTW
Skyrim
Blossom Tales
Damascus Gear
Subsurface Circular

All in all I'm really happy with it- that's a pretty heavy load for me when normally I'd only play around a dozen games a year. I'm playing a greater variety of larger and smaller titles now, ranging from 200 hours in Skyrim to just two with Subsurface Circular.

My wishlist is also huge, I won't list it all but some of the stuff coming up:
Ys VIII
Octopath Traveller
Wolfenstein 2
Victor Vran
Titan Quest
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Wargroove
Battle Princess Madelyn
Banner Saga I-III
The Takeover

I've found that I'm distinguishing less and less between bigger and smaller titles these days, whereas with the Vita I tended to file indie games in seperate folders. Maybe it's the lack of folders on Switch that's done it :D

I realise this is quite old now but I only just found it this morning, Unruly Heroes looks really cool.
