Cuphead is installed and waiting to be played when I get home, still undecided on what other game I want to pick up; it's a toss up between Hell is Other Demons and Katana Zero. Kinda leaning more towards Katana Zero since Hell and Cuphead have a lot of similarities in gameplay.

Are you in the US? If so, save this post for the future.

99% of games launch at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT. Even pre-purchased titles.

If you're elsewhere, I can't help you, sorry.
Honestly it doesn't matter, we get the same questions every week, we even answered this yesterday/last night, it should just be in the OP in big bold assed font with a flashing background.

Dracula-kun? Is that the version where he goes to high school and gets a harem of ladies?

Yeah, I know. Dumb joke.

Here's a thread with the specifics

But in general, it's less about being annoyed that they're different and more about most international versions being significantly higher than the JP ones. Like Haunted Castle, a game infamous for its difficulty, is even harder in the international version due to less enemy drops ans the character being more frail.

Thanks for the info. This kind of sucks :(

The first three Kairosoft games that were released on the switch are on a nominal sale. Tempting, but man comparing it to the mobile price, I just can't do it.

I'm having great fun with Katana Zero so far. Lovely game with music that gets you pumped for bloody pixel mayhem. Sort of Hotline Miami-ish while clearly being its own thing.

Has anyone played this on the PC and is it good?

May 3rd on Switch.

I haven't but I have read a lot of positives on it, but I always felt like it was a little too generic 16-bit fantasy styled. Yes they put a lot of work in to it, but nothing really stands out and makes you go, oh wow, I gotta play it. It kind of looks like a lot of these rpgs that are built on the love of Lufia, Lunar, FF3/6 and Chrono Trigger and it all tends to mush up and not seem to have it's own style ala Cosmic Star Heroine, which pays homage but does it's own thing a lot more.

I feel like I need to see more about the actual writing.

I always wonder why they specify "preorder until xxx" when there's no bonus and you can't cancel. It's like, there's literally no difference - why do I care when you stop calling it a preorder and start just calling it an order??!??

Also, well done Konami for helping my decision on what to buy today. Now it's just down to either Cuphead or Katana Zero.

I sure hope so. I feel like with each Picross e/s game I got, I could see myself getting better & faster with solving each puzzle, realizing how often there was actual clues left when I previously probably would've felt it was impossible. So yeah, maybe the color mode will click better with how they explain it or have the UI designed (which I feel like was the main thing that left me confused when trying Pic-A-Pix.

Also can't help but remember that Picross E9 never came over, probably due to the fact it came out August 2018, rather late in the 3DS' life.

Haha, same here. It's such an awesome feeling when your logic skills gradually get better the more Picross puzzles you solve. I'm closing in on the 200 hour mark with these games but there's still so much more I could be doing to improve my speed and reduce mistakes.

I'm also baffled why E9 hasn't been localized yet, but as I'm sure you know, other installments in the series inexplicably took a while to be brought over so I'm still holding out hope. If it doesn't show up by the end of this year though, I think we can safely lay those hopes to rest. :/

Portable Cuphead is a thing of beauty, as expected. Beating these bosses at the office during little breaks somehow makes them more exhilarating lol.

I'm a bit confused, though. I remember they say they'd introduce animated cutscenes in this version (and the Switch features would be patched in for previous versions), but I haven't seen any so far.

Cuphead put me over 200 coins, so I bought that $2 zombie game, Dawn of Survivors. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

LOOK OUT, BOUNCY BOB.

A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES...

qMuz7bMh.jpg

I'm a dumb ass and used my gold coins for Smash Bros Mii Fighter costumes that I'll never use.

Way too often I use gold coins to justify bullshit I otherwise wouldn't get, rather than using it on discounts for games I was already planning on purchasing, lol.

Hey, I'm with you! I hoard those gold coins like a stingy old miser (was sitting on $40ish until yesterday), but I reasoned that those dumb costumes are the perfect thing to dump them on since I'd feel like a doof spending real money on them. lol Plus, I can't see them ever getting a discount in the future, except maybe as My Nintendo rewards. But then you'd be cashing in those gold coins anyway, so whatever, right? :P

MK11, Dragon's Dogma, FFXII or Steamworld...

I'll only get one as I already have too many games. It just makes me sad that no matter which game I decide to pick, as soon as I boot it all I'll think about is the other games that I did not get.

Same here, mate ^_^

I was torn between Dragon's Dogma, FFX and FFXII, but hey, the FF games are pretty expensive right now. I'll grab Dragon's Dogma, because by the time I'm done with it, FFX and XII will probably be on sale.

To be fair, Capcom games also go on sale fairly often. :P

But considering I still have not played Torna (even though I love Xenoblade 2), I think I'll hold off on JRPG's right now, so it's between MK11 and Dragon's Dogma I suppose.

And those are so diametrically different games, like I enjoy a good fighting game here and there, but MK does nothing for me. Dragon's Dogma seems like the easy choice.

I think if you think of a time-money proposition, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is the better value at $30 launch.

SteamWorld Quest (4/24) and Giga Wrecker Alt. (5/02) are now up for pre-purchase at $25 each, along with Cytus Alpha (4/25) at $50.

Also, NO THING is on sale for a ridiculous $0.19. At that price I urge everyone to try it out. One of the strangest (and hardest) games I've finished on Switch. Don't watch any gameplay footage and just go in blind. Wear headphones. You'll either love it or hate it, but there's no arguing that the aesthetic isn't weird as heck. Personally one of the best budget eShop pick-ups I've made.

I think if you think of a time-money proposition, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is the better value at $30 launch.
Oh I don't usually pick games on these propositions anymore. I mean, I already have a ton of games I haven't played anyway, so it's more about what I actually want to play right now.

Venture Kid launches on May 2nd.

It's normally $10, but it's $7.50 if you pre-purchase (see my edit below). The OST is by Matt Creamer (Shakedown Hawaii) and it's sounding fantastic. Seems like a nice little Mega Man clone.

The game doesn't have many Steam reviews, but they're all positive, save for a couple that point out some technical issues of the PC version.

Edit - Correction. The $2.50 (25%) discount only applies if you own another FDG Entertainment game on Switch. Blossom Tale and Monster Boy being the two most popular titles.

I'm the same way, so my advice works for neither of us! Ha

I played this originally on iPhone back on the day. I really enjoyed it. Last level was really tough for me, though! Lots of spikes! D:

Can anyone recommend the best fishing game currently available? I'm considering Rapala's for 60% off.

Also any good solutions for charging your switch while on a long flight?

just watched footage of Steamworld Quest and it looks really solid, but it also looks like just another RPG mechanically. The deck building aspect is somewhat interesting, but it also amounts to a small variation on the ability tree/spell/special attack formula we all know. will be interested to see reviews, as I'm basing this on the 20 or so minute clip here:

For what it's worth, all impressions from journalists have been glowing . So, whether or not it's unique mechanically, it should be a very solid game.

That's encouraging. I've enjoyed all of the Steamworld games so far (I love Heist), so I'm definitely hoping for something solid from them. I have no doubt the game will be good, but when I saw it was a deck building game, my hopes for something mechanically unique were piqued.

Sold a Funko I've been holding onto for a while on Ebay today and got back more than I honestly was expecting.

Now I don't feel guilty about picking up Katana Zero, Cuphead, Dragon's Dogma and Steamworld Quest.

Now if only I could purchase time as well.

So what's the word on Katana Zero? NintendoLife seems to love it (9/10), but the only thing making me hesitate is the apparently short playtime.

How would the difficulty of Cuphead compare to Celeste? I don't usually like rock hard games but the checkpoint system of Celeste really helped and I loved it!
Those two are apples and oranges. A closer comparison would be something like Alien Soldier or maybe a FromSoft game. In Cuphead, you have to really learn each boss -- once you beat a particular boss, you feel like you earned it. You can't flail your way to a win. It's a very satisfying game. I didn't think it was very hard, but you can definitely expect some deaths on most bosses. It also depends on your experience in the genre.

I'm a little confused why Celeste has become the benchmark for asking about a game's difficulty.
Well, the full Castlevania lineup is revealed

And man... What was even the point of not revealing Adventure 1 and CV2 from the start?... They made me think they were purposely skipping bad games and we'd get Rondo and Adventure Rebirth instead, sigh.

Bloodlines is a godsend and Kid Dracula is a great surprise, but goddammit Konami :(

Nah, only the arcade ones. We still don't know who's doing the other colldctions.

Here's a thread with the specifics

But in general, it's less about being annoyed that they're different and more about most international versions being significantly higher than the JP ones. Like Haunted Castle, a game infamous for its difficulty, is even harder in the international version due to less enemy drops ans the character being more frail.

They're really hard to compare as they're so different, but maybe they're kinda similar?... The main focus of Cuphead are the bosses, which you restart instantly upon death, and the fantastic visuals and music along with the sheer fun that they're to fight should keep you wanting to give it just another try, but I guess it varies from person to person.

Cuphead does have an easy mode, but the downside is that it doesn't allow you to play the very last stage, encouraging you to play it in normal instead. The game was criticized for this, so I wonder if they changed it this time around.

I was really excited when I saw that Bloodlines and Dracula-kun were in but then I realized no Rondo. No Rondo and no Rebirth are my only disappointments with the lineup. I don't hate Simon's Quest. Saving Rondo for an inevitable collection with Symphony makes sense though given they are directly related. I do wonder if that second CV collection will cost more like $40 given the $20 Rondo/Symphony collection on other consoles.
Thanks for the info. This kind of sucks :(
Sorry I didn't get to your post sooner. IMO the biggest issue lies with Thunder Cross.
Has anyone played this on the PC and is it good?

May 3rd on Switch.

I haven't played it but the music in that trailer is good.

Oh it's good. Really good.

Hotline Miami sidescroller is the closest comparison I can think of. Even the story beats are somewhat similar, though at least I can follow somewhat what is going on in Katana Zero.

I'm happy Katana Zero is only four hours long. Ape Out is my GotY so far and I finished it in two. I applaud developers who know when to leave on a high note. Many games benefit from a long run time, but many more would benefit from a short one.

I don't mind short games, but I think sometimes the prices need to reflect that a bit better. Like, I got The Gardens Between for $10 and finished it in a day. That's fine to me. But if I paid full price at $20, I would have felt like I paid too much.

I can understand that, but I'm personally fine with paying $15-$20 for a memorable four hour experience. I get where you're coming from though.
