oh wow, that's tough, XII checks all those boxes but people don't like that you can technically automate combat so well it plays itself.I've never played a mainline FF game before. Which one should I start with? Asking about ones that are playable on Switch or will be by the end of the month. My favorite aspects of JRPGs are: sidequesting, exploration, enemy/monster visual design and variance, character development, and party member interactions. Thanks!

Thank you! Yeah I should be able to play 6 on the GBA, I think that'd be the most comfortable way for me to play.honestly go find 6 on whatever you can play it on, and start with 6, and then 5 and then 4 and then go 9,7,8 10, 12
Thanks for such an in-depth response!Really, all of them will offer those things, so you can't go wrong.
So should I only use that cheat in battle? Using it while walking around was so fast it was unplayable honestly lol. I couldn't tell what was going on.Remember the fast forward cheat is your friend. FF in wait mode, honestly
Punch-Out, Mario: Lost Levels, & Star Soldier hitting NES Online next week. Will see if Japan gets different games.

Finally getting around to Assault Android Cactus, and it's a lot of fun! NieR really turned me to bullet hell shooters and AAC feels a lot like that.
Thanks again for the copy, Paz!
Just realized Star Soldier is Konami, so I guess they're still supporting it? I was hoping they'd add the Castlevania games, but I guess that's what the Castlevania Collection is for.
Ugh that nier comment made me want to buy it... Too many gamesYou're welcome, pretty fascinating to see someone come in to the genre due to NieR :)
To be clear, AAC+ shares almost nothing with NieR beyond the shmup segments, so if you're tight on cash and don't love those bits of NieR it might not be a relevant comment for you.Ugh that nier comment made me want to buy it... Too many games

It is currently the #1 rated Switch game of 2019 on metacritic tho so maybe you'd like it anyway :P
The Arcade Classics release is simply a collection of Hamster releases, so emulation should be the exact same quality we're already used to (good thing IMO as their releases are largely excellent).
The Castlevania and Contra collections tho, we don't really know who's handling them. I really, really want it to be M2 but they're stupidly busy with AGES and now the Megadrive Mini, so I doubt it.
And by the way, you're in for a ride with classic Castlevania, there's so much top tier goodness in there! And judging by the games revealed so far I'm confident we're getting the best, namely Bloodlines, Rondo and (HOPEFULLY) The Adventure Rebirth.
Super stoked to finally get to work on a game headed to the Switch. I think Hob is a really nice fit for the platform and The Definitive Edition has some improvements over the original release. Most notably, the camera has been tweaked to cut down on the senseless deaths that happened in the original. There's also been some general UI improvements and an smoother framerate (30 fps).
People who have played Darksiders, when y'all say that it's similar to Zelda what do you mean? Like dungeons and items? I've been watching some videos and it looks a lot like God of war which I don't dislike. I'd just like to know what to expect.
Combat is better than God of War. It also has dungeons and items for solving puzzles, so structure is very much pre-Botw Zelda. Oh yes!! Coming this week from Hamster as part of their Arcade Archives...
For those unaware, it's actually a shooter rather than a platformer.
I would say it's actually a mixture of both Zelda and God of War. The combat is very GoW but the dungeons are like Zelda. You need to find keys to make your way through a lot of them and there will be an item in the dungeon that will be critical in you progressing further, both in the the dungeon and the overworld.

I also love shmup style segments in games. The reason I don't get more into the genre is that most games are super short, aimed at high score chasing mentality, which is not my thing. To be clear, AAC+ shares almost nothing with NieR beyond the shmup segments, so if you're tight on cash and don't love those bits of NieR it might not be a relevant comment for you.

The main story can last you around 3-4 hours depending on on your skill level, but that's not counting the pretty great remixed campaign that should double that play time.I also love shmup style segments in games. How long would you say the game last for a regular playthrough?

You mean that the game is smoother on switch than on other console? That would be a first. Either way, I'm in.
Oh wow, I used to play this all the time at the local Kroger grocery store in Spring, TX back in the day (along with DK Jr.). I was only ever able to make it in a few stages before getting overwhelmed. LOLOh yes!! Coming this week from Hamster as part of their Arcade Archives...

Their legend continues to grow.I am playing it right now in handheld on my Switch and it seems to run at a steady 30 fps. From what I have heard from Panic Button, the performance is smoother on Switch than in the previous version.

Last night I dreamt that Nintendo bought Panic Button and other studios (like Shinen) and formed a tech support joint to help porting third party games to Switch, lol. Of course, Panic Button already does that, but in my dream it was a much more aggressive proposition.
Dat font is fyre. Also on sale on the EU eshop. Buy it people, it's a great game.
Oh cool. I remember playing this and thinking it was weirdly fun for such a different game in the DK series. I don't know if I'd pay $8, but I'd gladly chip in when there's a sale.Oh yes!! Coming this week from Hamster as part of their Arcade Archives...
