Finished playing Etherborn tonight.

Very cool idea for a puzzle game, however it's actually quite short, and the difficulty spike after just a couple levels is nothing short of ridiculous.

Finished Oniken yesterday and it was pretty neat. It had significant difficulty spike near the end but nothing that a bit of patience couldn't get me through... Pretty hilarious that the secret bonus mission is way more fun than the rest of the game tho lol, but I guess I'll get more of that with Blazing Chrome.

Finally bought Slay The Spire too and it's fantastic, but you all probably already know that.

Started Odallus now and man, I'm digging it a lot, it feels much more fleshed out and confident than Oniken, although they're very different games. I really wish you could adjust the volume for the SFX tho, ugh.
Yeah, it's got the choppy scrolling during screen transitions, but also any time text is on the screen too, including menus. I liked the game a lot but honestly I'd recommend playing it on another platform if you have the option. It's not unplayable, but it kinda gave me a headache and just sorta felt generally bad and made me not want to explore quite as much... and the issue is rooted in the fact that the game being built in Flash and isn't going to be fixable.
I didn't see any other notable performance issues though, the moment-to-moment action was totally smooth.
I couldn't find the post I was looking for, but I think it was some tweet with someome asking the original dev about the issues and them pointing out the engine doesn't allow for better performance. But oh well, thank you for your impressions. That does sound annoying, but honestly it sounds better than playing this non-portable so I'll probably still take it.

If you are craving for some Zelda-inspired goodness, probably ahead of the new thursday sales (as usual) Oceanhorn and Blossom Tales are both 50% off on the EU eshop.

I played Oceanhorn on PC and really enjoyed it, I never finished it (was at the last dungeon I believe) and I was bummed I never got back to it, might double dip because I bet it would look nice on the small screen. And doubly so for Blossom Tale, which I tried to play on PC but the blocky gfx on a big screen really put me off, been wanting to grab it on switch to play portable.

Fucking awful.
Will ACA BUBBLE BOBBLE keep its PS4's exclusive status then?
Can't see them trying to sell this crap for €29,99/39,99 (it's my guess, nothing official) while dropping the og BB for €6,99.
Goddamn... at least give us ACA Liquid Kids then.

This and Wonderboy Returns+ releasing, when both og games have an ACA release exclusive to PS4 are such low blows goddamnit

At least give us a freakin BUBBLE BOBBLE Collection with the sequels and 🌈 🏝 + ⛱⭐ + 💬🎵
If done right I can easily drop €50 on it.
Hell, I'd love a CE of such never-gonna-happen BB Collection.
I am pretty confident that they are going to give the Bubble series the Darius and Space Invaders premium collection treatment. I got Darius and I'm probably skipping Space Invaders, but I would buy a Bubble Bobble collection in a heartbeat. One of the best game series of all time.

Definitely a quieter month for me. I'm in the middle of digitising my physical collection so I can't exactly afford to go crazy (which is probably good because the only game I'd really consider buying at launch is Astral Chain).

I don't think they will raise the price for NSO when they add SNES games. If they're trying to increase the value of the service, and get people to re-subscribe, upping the price just created bad PR and prevents the value from being raised as much. Just a hunch, I understand I could be completely wrong.

I can maybe see another platform being added for free (probably SNES), but then further platforms being subject to increased fees, and maybe those plans announced at around the same time as SNES to soften the blow.

Gris is 40% off on EU and its fucking amazing, was almost my goty last year.

Furwind is also 25% off that was fast.

My Time at Portia is 30% off.

That's the more notable new deals I see along with Blossom Tales and Oceanhorn both 50% off like I said earlier.

So is Morphies Law worth it now? I tried the PC f2p version very briefly the other day and coudn't get a match, so it gave me a bot match.

Which is worse than it sounds because you don't seem to earn the currency you need to unlock stuff in bot matches.

Yes, it is really fun and a really solid game!

The devs outdone themselves with the latest update!

I am pretty confident that they are going to give the Bubble series the Darius and Space Invaders premium collection treatment. I got Darius and I'm probably skipping Space Invaders, but I would buy a Bubble Bobble collection in a heartbeat. One of the best game series of all time.

Darius CC stuck pretty closely to only arcade titles (with all console titles pushed to the LE) and skipped more loosely related games (Metal Black, Sylvallion, etc). I wouldn't expect Parasol Stars in the core package and maybe not even Rainbow Islands either, but I would expect Bubble Memories.

I'm sure NSO will remain $20. I'm saying SNES will just be a seperate app with a seperate cost. But you'll probably need NSO to get the SNES sub.

Sigh October? Making us wait even longer Hunh? Well at least I should be through my current batch of games by then
Safe to assume the digital version is going to be cheaper?
Depends, if the physical is a special edition with stickers or dlc yes, if not it'll be the same

eh I think you're being paranoid. Thing is they need something big next month to get more people on and to get most to continue. Snes makes sense. Beyond 2d games maybe there might be an additional cost but they keep trying to add value to the core product, it makes no sense to add a secondary sub

I picked up Furwind . I feel if it dropped by 25% that quick, it might be getting lost in the shuffle, and a good game like that deserves some support

I could see NSO going up in price, but I cannot see another sub being created for SNES games that still requires NSO. That's just one step too confusing. I mean what would the extra sub be? $5 a year? Would you also have that to have to get the SNES controllers? That's too complicated. Just make it one sub. Up the price for all new subscribers but grandfather in current users.

But I don't see the sub going up. Most people aren't going to see SNES games as all that more valuable than NES games.

They won't do separate subs, they very much need to up the value of the current one as it is. Maybe they bump the price a bit but that's it.

NSO won't up it's price for SNES but might later on if they add more platforms (N64, GB/C, GBA).

DOOM 1+2 login patches are out on Switch! Nothing for DOOM 3 (it didn't need a login patch, it was already 100% optional but was hoping for them adding gyro).

Both are at 1.0.2 now.

I don't think they actually do need to add more value, you have to have it to play online and they have far more NES games now then when they launched and people subbed back then. It's doing really well.

I don't think it's paranoid, i think it's a pretty reasonable expectation based on Nintendo's history.

$5? No way, I'm thinking $20.

It's not that confusing. You have different system apps with their own price, one system (NES) is included with NSO.

I doubt that NSO will increase in price with the snes games. It's cheap for a reason: the service sucks, but it's a trojan to push people to buy extra stuff like the vouchers, and i expect this kind of things to happen more and more. That's where the money is for them.

Aren't we due for a Direct soon? Perfect time to unveil how Nintendo will handle SNES content and what their plans are for integrating it into NSO.

But I don't see the sub going up. Most people aren't going to see SNES games as all that more valuable than NES games.

[citation needed]

If that's the case, then SNES games wouldn't be priced higher than NES games on every digital storefront since the Wii, and the SNES Classic wouldn't cost $20 more than the NES Classic. :P

Nintendo fans are always hungry for SNES stuff, and the Switch is the best platform they've ever had to potentially play them on. Nintendo knows this, and I'm sure they're well aware of the profit they can gain by offering an optional premium tier to those fans.

My final prediction is $20/year for the basic NSO sub which includes everything we're getting now, and $30/year for the premium NSO sub which includes all basic NSO sub perks + SNES games + access to buy the SNES wireless controllers. I'm also gonna take a stab and guess that there will only be a yearly option for the premium tier, and no monthly option.

And now I expect to be proven entirely wrong as Nintendo announces that Virtual Boy games will be added to NSO instead at $50/year, with bonus Nintendo Labo VR Kit support. 🤪

It's that time of year where people get antsy about a Direct and expect one before gamescom and then that doesn't happen like every year and then they expect a TGS one which doesn't happen like every year and then one happens randomly inbetween or after at some point before October's releases roll out.

lol

I was curious so I checked if previous Directs happened around this time of year, and in the past three years there was one in September, so I'm crossing my fingers that we can keep the streak going. NSO anniversary is on 9/19, so I'm hopeful.

There will probably be a Nindies presentation by the end of the month and a general Nintendo Direct by the end of September. Or not. Who knows. So much to play on Switch these days, I don't actually need a Direct like I did in the past.

Yup. Nindies stuff happens between/around gamescom and PAX usually. This always trips people up during the "but gamescom Direct!!" discussion cycle :D

save this post and repost it as-is 12 months from today, it'll be relevant again :P

You might be right, but Rainbow Islands is a very direct sequel to BB. I think it would be really weird to exclude it.

Does My Time at Portia still run like garbage? I held off on PC for the Switch port, and was disappointed when it released.

It might depend on how many versions of Bobble, Symphony and Memories there are to include. There were really only 3 Darius games in the base collection for comparison (I, II and Gaiden) but regional and revised variants bumped that figure. I could see Bobble, Symphony, Memories and Islands all though too. Then the LE games could be the various Japanese console ports of Bobble (FDS/NES, SMS, MSX), Islands (FC, MD) and then console only titles like Parasol Stars (PCE) and Bobble 2 (NES, GB).
