I'm gonna spend serious money this month. Fuck. But between Rain World and Ape Out, I feel that I'm on a good streak finally, after badly starting the year.

Beat Cop looks like a lot of fun but I just started Tales of Vesperia and don't need to spend more money lol. Ape Out looks cool too!

Thanks tolkir

Thanks for another awesome thread, tolkir!

I'll probably save some money, April will be insane for me. This month, I'm only slightly curious about Atelier. Is Nelke a good place to start in the series? I did some research, but it looks like there are different types of Atelier games and it got very confusing.

Is The Caligula Effect supposed to be good? The one Destructoid review makes it seem... not...

It is written by the same writer who worked on Persona 1 and 2. Good or not, I am definitely giving it a try.

The original version of Caligula Effect had awful performance. I haven't played it, but I've watched a few videos and it's no wonder the game had bad reviews.

The new version supposedly runs a lot better and it's as close to Persona as you can get on Switch. I really dig the music.

Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon has by far the best soundtrack of any FF game, and I'm a huge fan of FF soundtracks.

Final Fantasy VII finally coming to a Nintendo system this month! :D

I'm just (finally) finishing up Octopath Traveler so I can have a wee JRPG break before I jump into VII again - haven't played it in soo long!

Very excited for Baba is You, that game looks genius and reminds me of the excitement for the first Scriblenauts. I'm getting Chocobo's Dungeon and... Caligula Effect too, I guess. Looks awful but I gotta give my man Tadashi a chance.

Eagerly waiting for Toejam & Earl to unlock too. I pre-ordered that one without giving it much thought and now it turns out most reviewers love it, haha.

Help me eShopERA, you're my only hope. Do I want:

- Liar Princess and the Blind Prince
- Double Cross
- Teslagrad

Which is best and which is most likely to go on sale sooner rather than later?

Never heard of Baba is You before this thread, but I looked it up and it sounds like an incredibly clever puzzle game so that's now on my list. I'll probably be getting Yoshi as well.

Anyone have any links to Caligula Effect Overdose reviews? From the sound of things, there's a PS4 Asian version of the game that has an English option that's been out for a few months. I thought the original Vita game sounded interesting although the really negative reviews scared me off.

EDIT: Just found an English review of the PS4 Caligula Effect Overdose which came out in Japan/Asia last year. It says there's a female MC option which changes things around, a new scenario where you team up with the villains of the original game which is about as long as the original storyline, and general gameplay QoL improvements. Says performance is much better but the graphics still have an "Enhanced Vita" look to them. Also says that dungeon design remains terrible (lots of long corridors just full of battles) & the Recruit NPC feature is still mostly pointless.

I'm thinking Caligula Effect, Yoshi and maybe Rico and Xenon Racer (both depending on HH performance) retail wise this month.

Ape Out, Final Fantasy VII and Swords and Soldiers 2 from the eShop.

Probably gonna fund a good portion of my game purchases for the next bit when I sell my Umbrella Academy 1 and 2 hardcovers that are signed. I saw just the first edition sell for $500 locally.

Dammit, looks like Double Cross was just on sale in January, and Teslagrad doesn't seem to ever go on sale.

IDK Teslagrad interests me the most of every game on my wishlist. Anyone want to sell me on it?

Thanks for the info. I read that they have hired a number of musicians who usually post on niconico. The music sounds great, too.

Baba is You and Assault Android Cactus are definite purchases for me. BiY looks very clever and creative, and AAC is apparently a good twin-stick shooter, which is one of my all-time favorite genres. I love the Switch because I can play these on the go, since I am diving into a huge game I can only play at home this month as well, so win/win.

Don't know if it was mentioned last thread or not, but the original Pillars of Eternity is coming to Switch:

https://www.gonintendo.com/stories/...ces-pillars-of-eternity-for-switch-reconfirms

As well as Into the Dead 2:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R8VavEAH3ec
THQ Nordic was publishing Pillars 2 on Switch, so what is going on? As that PR doesn't even mention a Pillars 2 for Switch. So weird

Edit / Nevermind, I now see the Versus Evil logo on the box. Honestly I'd like to see both especially with the turnbased mode enabled, shame they didn't go back and do it for the first one.

I can only speak for Liar Princess since that's the only one I've played of the three. In short, it's absolutely wonderful if you like gorgeous visuals, excellent music, and a touching story. Gameplay-wise it's on the easy side with a few frustrating sections, but I can easily overlook them when the rest of the package is so freaking great. It's also $20 digitally while the physical + extras is $40, and NISA deserves to be rewarded for not ratcheting up the base digital price to match parity with the retail version like many other Switch games. It typically takes them a long time to discount their Switch stuff after release so if you bought it now you should be safe.

13AM Games dropped the price on the Switch port of Runbow very soon after launch, so I'd imagine Double Cross will get a sale soon as well.

I don't think Teslagrad ever got a discount in the US despite being out for over a year now, so who knows when that'll get one.

Unfortunately Double Cross just got a sale in January according to what I've read (or maybe that was when it came out IDK) so it's unlikely to go on sale again soon, and I'm not paying $25 CAD plus tax on it, so into the wishlist it goes.

Teslagrad... eh. I want it but honestly the only reason I'm even thinking of buying anything new right now is because I had some surplus store credit from my EB Games after paying off my pre-order for Sekiro. Put a gun to my head and I'll eventually grab it, but then again I have been ignoring Wargroove this whole time.

I also got spoiled on the ending of Liar Princess by accident so I kinda lost motivation to play it right at this moment. Thank you for the write up though.

I've been playing Ape Out and it's really fun. Reminds me a bit of OlliOlli due to the "one more run" addiction cycle. It's much harder than I thought it would be, but still reckless good fun, and the loading time between death and restart is absolutely negligible. I will definitely get my money's worth out of this one.

RICO is pretty repetitive and doesn't offer much variety. You kick down a door, shoot, and repeat. Local co-op may add some fun or the fact your progress resets if you get killed adds more challenge, but the core is a bit weak.

I've never played a ToeJam & Earl game before, and I'm struggling to figure out what the gameplay is like. Gameplay vids don't even seem to help much.
They're like Mystery Dungeon roguelikes, except with less combat focus. You traverse maps with a top down perspective looking for pieces of your spaceship. These maps are procedurally generated (or not, if you choose to play on fixed mode) and filled with enemies you have to avoid, quirky NPCs that offer services, and presents to find. Presents have unknown effects, some useful like weapons to take down enemies or items to help you move around faster/easier, and some as absurd as a giant signpost that alerts all enemies of your presence.

Co-op lets you share presents with your friends (both the good and the bad) and it's considered the biggest draw of these games, though personally I play them mostly alone and can be pretty fun that way too.

Oh and if you lose all your lives you lose all of your progress, though I'm not sure if there's a mod in this game that changes that.

In the end tho, the pure 90s vibes, great music and hilarious situations you'll encounter are what make these so charming and a great time.
